Naruto - Leader of Kusagakure

Chapter 311: CH - 306 Gaara and Pakura

As Akihiko and his family enjoyed their sumptuous dinner, Pakura was starting her own meal at home.

Cooking wasn't Pakura's strong suit, so takeout was their usual choice. With her hair tied up in a bun after a long day's work, she stretched lazily and surveyed the lavish spread before her. Her gaze landed on Gaara, who was quietly seated at the table, and she nodded with satisfaction.

He's such a good kid, she thought, not at all like that arrogant Rasa. In personality, Gaara resembled his mother, Karura—both gentle souls at heart.

Unfortunately, Gaara once had an uncle, but that rascal Rasa had eliminated him, destroying any chance of any relationship between Gaara and the others. As she reflected on this, Pakura felt a surge of frustration. Those old geezers, Chiyo and Ebizo, had stood by and done nothing while someone was ordered to assassinate their own nephew.

"You must be hungry too! Let's dig in," Pakura said as she began her meal, occasionally sampling different dishes and nodding in approval. "It might be a bit pricey, but it tastes absolutely delicious."

As she thought about her mounting debt, a wave of sentimentality washed over Pakura. How long would it take to pay it off? She had initially considered visiting that guy's place for a free meal when she had the time, but with so many people at his home now, and since she was bringing Gaara along this year, she decided against it.

"Come on! You have to try this!" Pakura urged enthusiastically.

"Mm~ thank you, Aunt Pakura!" Gaara replied, his voice filled with genuine appreciation.

"You're much more polite than Rasa ever was. Oh, sorry! Hahaha!" Pakura quickly realized it might not be appropriate to say that in front of a child and let out an awkward laugh.

"Anyway, as you probably know, I'll be taking you back to the Sand Village in a few days. Make sure you pack your things! And by the way, you've never seen the Sand Village since its reconstruction, right? Hahaha, neither have I!" She chatted casually while helping Gaara with his food.

Pakura had been worried about Gaara at the academy, but he had integrated well and even made friends. She was pleased to hear he had become close with Kushina and Mikoto's children.

Watching Gaara take small bites of his meal, Pakura suddenly remembered something and said, "Oh, by the way, if there's anything you want to buy, just let me know. There's no need to be shy!"

With a gentle smile, she added, "I've heard from the Sand Shinobi here that your sister is very worried about you and always asks how you're doing. Maybe you could bring back some gifts for everyone?"

As soon as Pakura finished speaking, Gaara felt a warmth in his heart at her words, and a faint smile crept onto his face. He understood her message; she was letting him know he was cared for, unlike what his cruel father had labeled him—a 'failure.' But Gaara had long since stopped letting that affect him.

After a moment's thought, Gaara, being just a child, didn't refuse. He nodded and replied, "Thank you, Aunt Pakura!"

"What a sweet boy you are… there you go with those kind words again! Hahaha!" Pakura chuckled heartily, setting her bowl down and affectionately ruffling Gaara's hair with playful force. But Gaara didn't mind at all.

With a warm smile, she added, "As long as you work hard, Gaara, Aunt Pakura will be very happy!"

"Mm!" Gaara's small face was serious for a moment as he looked at Pakura and nodded, "I'll definitely work hard, Aunt Pakura!"

At that moment, Gaara felt a deep sense of gratitude for everyone around him—Aunt Pakura, Leader Akihiko, and Grandpa Yoshinori. Unlike his father, who constantly rejected him, everyone here was genuinely supportive and guiding him. He also cherished the friendship of Naruto, Sasuke, and Jūgo.

Now, he no longer feared the monster within him. He understood that the chakra surrounding him wasn't the power of a monster but the protective energy left behind by his mother.

As Gaara ate, he noticed Aunt Pakura, who had apparently drunk a bit too much and was now dozing off. He shook his head helplessly but chose not to disturb her, quietly finishing his meal.

However, his thoughts began to drift. I wonder how Temari and Kankuro are doing?

He had heard that the Sand Village had reopened its school, which was different from the academy established by the Second Kazekage. It was more akin to the schools here, meaning that next year, the children in Sand Village would also start attending classes.

He couldn't help but wonder if they still held any resentment toward him. While Gaara no longer felt fear, he found himself reflecting on his past life.

"I'm finished!" Gaara announced as he completed his meal.

"I… I'm finished too! I'll rest for a bit; you wash up first and get to bed early," Pakura replied slowly, her eyes drooping as she spoke.

After quietly finishing dinner, the responsible Gaara washed his own bowl and tidied up the other dishes.

Noticing Aunt Pakura asleep on the sofa, he observed her usually composed face now showing a hint of vulnerability. Carefully, he covered her with a blanket as she mumbled various things in her sleep. "Hey, what do you mean? I'm working hard, okay?" followed by, "Idiot~. Hmm~ what are you doing? Hey! Stop it!"

Curious about Aunt Pakura's strange mumblings, Gaara wondered what she might be dreaming about. However, his interest quickly waned, and he headed to his room to start packing his belongings.

His belongings were minimal since he hadn't brought much with him; most of what he had was bought later by Pakura. Just a few clothes and his toiletries were all he needed.

However, after a while, Gaara paused, mumbling to himself, "I wonder if my things in Sand Village have been thrown away?"

Now that he thought about it, it seemed he no longer had a home in Sand Village. When Naruto and the others visited, where would they stay?

After a moment of contemplation, he calmly resumed his packing. "Forget it; I'll just ask Aunt Pakura tomorrow!"

Here's a revised version of your paragraph for improved tone, fluency, and clarity:

Meanwhile, while the people of the Grass Village were celebrating the upcoming holiday, a lively scene unfolded in Konoha.

"Come on, Brother Kado, don't be shy! Drink up!" Danzo cheerfully poured a drink for the short uncle seated before him, a friendly smile gracing his face. "Have you given it some thought? You should know that I'm being quite sincere."

He paused for a moment, then continued in the same steady tone, "Of course, if you choose to decline, I won't be upset. I simply wanted to extend my hand in friendship. In the future, if you come to Konoha for a mission, I can offer you a discount."

However, as soon as he finished speaking, Kado, the second-in-command of the Tobi Environmental Recycling Company, lifted his glass and glanced at the ten or so Konoha ninjas surrounding him. Their masked faces were expressionless, each one holding a kunai.

The corners of Kado's mouth twitched. Did he dare refuse? Could he even afford to? Speaking of which, this guy was supposed to be the former second-in-command of Konoha, right? He was sure he hadn't met him before, but why did this behavior feel so familiar?

After a moment's thought, he decided not to dwell on it any longer. He had his own goals to achieve.

He sighed deeply and set down his glass. "This batch of equipment is extremely important to me, Brother Danzo. I paid a hefty price to acquire it, and let me put it this way: I—"

Before he could finish, the sharp sound of kunai slicing through the air interrupted him.

"What were you saying, my brother?" Danzo asked, completely unfazed by the kunai, his tone deceptively 'polite.'

"I…" Kado swallowed hard, glancing at the old man leaning on his cane with a smile that felt anything but friendly. After cursing internally a few times, he quickly added, "But since you need it, of course I agree! Take it! Just take it! You can have whatever you want!"

"How could I possibly accept that?" Danzo feigned humility, acting as if he couldn't possibly accept Kado's generosity.

"What's mine is yours. Please, take what you need!" Kado's mouth twitched again, but as a seasoned veteran, he knew how to navigate this situation.

"My brother!" Danzo called out, and soon both of them fell into a charade of brotherly affection. "Kado!" "Danzo!"

In an instant, the entire private room erupted with joyful voices. Drinks were raised high, and laughter filled the air.
