Naruto: Reborn in Konoha, Starting with the Drop of Asura's Chakra

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Konoha Year 59, Yagyu Gains Attention

By the time Sasuke Uchiha returned to school, five days had passed.

Just as Yagyu expected, Sasuke's demeanor had completely changed. He now radiated a cold, intimidating aura.

The seeds of his inner turmoil had begun to take root.

However, Sasuke's fan club seemed oblivious to this transformation.

Instead, they found his icy demeanor even more captivating, gushing about how "cool" he had become.

The girls of Class 1 were particularly thrilled.

With the warm, sunny Yagyu and the aloof, ice-cold Sasuke in their class, they felt utterly spoiled for choice.

While Sasuke's intense presence drove even his seatmate to cower away in fear, Yagyu simply observed him thoughtfully.

Sasuke's Sharingan had awakened, though it wasn't yet under his control.

This raised a tantalizing question: Would the odds of extracting the Sharingan or Indra's chakra from Sasuke increase?

As Yagyu pondered this, Sasuke suddenly turned to meet his gaze, as though sensing his thoughts.

"What a frightening look!"

"What's wrong with Sasuke?" Ino and Sakura flinched at the intensity in his eyes.

Yagyu, however, didn't look away, calmly holding Sasuke's gaze.

After a tense few seconds, Sasuke turned his head back.

Yagyu knew at that moment—he had become Sasuke's target.

As the last surviving Uchiha of Konoha, Sasuke would now hold his clan's honor above all else.

He wouldn't tolerate being overshadowed by Yagyu.

From this point onward, Sasuke would dedicate himself to training and studying harder than ever, striving to reclaim the title of top student.

And Yagyu was perfectly fine with that.

If it weren't so difficult to casually interact with Naruto and Sasuke, Yagyu would have already made it a daily routine to challenge them to fights.

These two reincarnations of the Sage of Six Paths' sons were the greatest treasures of their era.

If Yagyu could fully exploit their potential, his ceiling could be as high as the Six Paths Sage himself.

Time flew by, and before anyone realized it, it was March of Konoha Year 59.

Nearly four years had passed since the Uchiha massacre.

The fall of one of the ninja world's top three clans had shaken the entire world.

While Yagyu hadn't left the village to witness the extent of this impact, the aftermath of the Uchiha's downfall was evident within Konoha.

Already weakened, the village's strength took yet another hit.

Strangely, however, none of the rival villages seized the opportunity to attack. Instead, they maintained the fragile balance of power.

This was a stroke of luck for Konoha—and for Yagyu.

If war had broken out, the younger generation of ninjas would have been sent to the battlefield prematurely.

Without his game system, Yagyu might not have cared much. As a child, he wouldn't have been deployed to the frontlines.

But knowing his potential and the power he could achieve, Yagyu wanted nothing to do with war at this stage.

Until he fully developed his abilities, he couldn't risk being targeted by enemy forces attempting to eliminate Konoha's future talents.

The peace between the Five Great Ninja Nations was a godsend.

As Yagyu predicted, Sasuke spent the next four years relentlessly competing with him, determined to reclaim the title of top student.

For every quiz or surprise test involving a taijutsu sparring match, Sasuke would request to face Yagyu as his opponent.

Even Naruto wasn't spared from Sasuke's intensity—challenging him only to be swiftly defeated in seconds.

Sasuke's obsession grew to the point where Iruka, their teacher, had no choice but to ask Yagyu for permission to let Sasuke challenge him.

Yagyu, of course, agreed readily. He had been waiting for opportunities like this to engage with Sasuke.

Thus, for four years, in every practical exam—from taijutsu to kunai sparring—Yagyu and Sasuke were paired against each other.

And every time, Sasuke lost.

No matter how hard Sasuke trained, he couldn't outwork Yagyu.

By the time he was in his first year, Yagyu had already mastered the Shadow Clone Jutsu.

With shadow clones constantly training on his behalf, Yagyu's growth was relentless. He had long surpassed the level required for graduation.

Were it not for his desire to stay in school and extract as much value as possible, Yagyu would have left long ago, sending shadow clones to attend classes in his place like Itachi Uchiha once did.

Without the ability to fully utilize his Sharingan, Sasuke had no chance against Yagyu in any fundamental aspect of ninja training.

Every year, Yagyu claimed the title of top student without fail.

His continued dominance over the heirs of prominent ninja clans made him a rising star not just in the academy but also among Konoha's influential figures.

Clan leaders like Inoichi Yamanaka and Hiashi Hyuga took particular notice of the boy who had captured their daughters' attention.

Both leaders secretly observed Yagyu during training sessions.

Witnessing him teach their daughters advanced techniques typically reserved for genin, and seeing them successfully learn, they couldn't help but gain newfound respect for Yagyu.

Both men ultimately decided not to interfere with their daughters' interactions with him.

Even the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, began to pay attention to Yagyu.

Having seen what Minato Namikaze—a commoner-born prodigy—had achieved, Hiruzen held great respect for talent, regardless of lineage.

The fact that Yagyu consistently outperformed the heirs of prominent clans spoke volumes about his potential.

With the right guidance and investment, Yagyu could one day become a cornerstone of Konoha's future.

Of course, Yagyu himself remained unaware of the attention he had attracted.

Had he known even the Hokage was keeping an eye on him, he might have breathed a sigh of relief.

Hiruzen's interest didn't concern him—but Danzo Shimura's would have been a nightmare.

Fortunately, Yagyu's family ties to Konoha's leadership, through his late parents, offered some protection.

As a "loyal member of the Hokage's faction," Danzo would think twice before targeting him.

Still, Konoha's politics were exhausting to navigate.

Once a village teeming with powerful ninja, Konoha now felt hollow.

Many of its greatest warriors had been exiled, killed, or driven to leave by the manipulations of Hiruzen and Danzo.

Now, with only himself left to rely on, even Hiruzen had begun to panic.
