Naruto: Reborn in Konoha, Starting with the Drop of Asura's Chakra

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Humble Pursuer and the Main Quest

"Third team, step out. I'm your supervising Jonin."

Shortly after Iruka left the classroom, a Jonin in a green vest appeared at the door, calling for the next team.

"Fifth team, follow me."

Barely had the third team left when another Jonin arrived. The previously bustling classroom quickly emptied as students departed with their new teams.

Before long, only about a dozen students remained. Unlike Kakashi Hatake, known for his penchant for tardiness, Kurenai Yuhi arrived promptly, not making Team 8 wait long.

Soon, a beautiful woman with fiery red eyes and an impressive figure appeared at the door. Scanning the room, her gaze settled on Yagyu. She smiled.

"Team 8, step out. I'm your supervising Jonin."

Just as Yagyu, Hinata, and Shino rose, a bearded Jonin entered the doorway, directing his attention to their group. "Team 10, come out."

It was clear to everyone that Sarutobi Asuma, a suitor for Kurenai, had deliberately synchronized his appearance with hers.

"We'll head out now, Sakura. Visit us during the break if you can," Yagyu said to Sakura with a smile.

"Sure, see you," Sakura replied with a forced grin, watching them leave.

As Team 8 and Team 10 exited the classroom together, Asuma turned to Kurenai, his voice hinting at a hidden agenda. "Kurenai, should we let the kids get to know each other better?"

Walking close enough to overhear, Shikamaru raised an eyebrow. This guy doesn't seem very reliable…

Kurenai shot a look at Asuma, whose lit cigarette had seemingly materialized again. She frowned. "That won't be necessary. Besides, Asuma, could you not smoke in front of a lady?"

"Sorry, sorry…" Asuma quickly extinguished his cigarette, his apologetic demeanor further eroding his authoritative image.

Ino couldn't hold back her frustration. It's bad enough that I didn't get assigned to Yagyu's team, but why did we get stuck with a smoker as our teacher?!

Meanwhile, Yagyu watched the exchange thoughtfully. Have their relationship not progressed yet? He recalled the original timeline, where Asuma and Kurenai were on a date during Itachi Uchiha's return to the village.

Could it be that their breakthrough only happened after Sarutobi Hiruzen's death?

The realization left Yagyu regarding Asuma with thinly veiled disdain. A tragic backstory to win affection? How pathetic.

"Hey… what's with those looks, kids?" Asuma's face flushed as the judging gazes of Yagyu's group made him squirm.

Ino, lacking any sense of subtlety, looked at him with pure pity, nearly breaking his composure.

Great, Asuma thought. Now my credibility as a teacher is in shambles.

Outside the school building, Ino waved goodbye to Yagyu. "See you, Yagyu. Drop by the flower shop sometime!"

Yagyu nodded in response, and the two teams parted ways. Kurenai led Team 8 away from the village's central streets, guiding them to a remote, abandoned training ground outside the village.

The area, with its weathered wooden posts and quiet seclusion, was nearly identical to the one used by Kakashi's Team 7 in the original series. Yagyu noted that most training grounds in the wild seemed to share similar layouts.

Stopping at one of the posts, Kurenai turned to face her team, a warm smile on her face.

"From now on, until you're capable of standing on your own, we'll be spending a lot of time together. Let's start with introductions."

"I'll go first as an example. I'm Kurenai Yuhi. You can call me 'Sensei Kurenai.' My specialty is genjutsu. I enjoy sake, vodka, and octopus with wasabi. I dislike cake, and my dream is to become a kunoichi as accomplished as Lady Tsunade."

Her introduction complete, Kurenai's gaze fell on Yagyu.

Unlike seasoned Jonin like Kakashi, Asuma, or Guy, Kurenai was a recent addition to the Jonin ranks. When the Third Hokage assigned her a team, she quickly became aware of the reputation of her students—particularly Yagyu, the class leader.

Having seen his consistent performance, always outshining even the inheritors of the great clans, Kurenai had placed her hopes on Yagyu.

She was determined to train an exceptional student to silence her detractors, who often excluded her from their elite circles.

Unaware of Kurenai's ambitions, Yagyu introduced himself. "I'm Yagyu. My best skill is Water Release jutsu, though I've mastered techniques from other categories as well. I like spicy food and dislike sour or bitter flavors. My dream is to become an outstanding ninja."

The first part was sincere, but the "dream" was a polite fabrication. Yagyu's true aspiration, shaped by his mysterious gaming system, was to acquire rare abilities and ascend to Six Paths-level power. That, to him, was the true "main quest."

Hinata followed next. "I'm Hinata Hyuga. I specialize in my clan's Gentle Fist technique and sensory abilities. I enjoy red bean paste, cinnamon rolls, and cold dishes. I dislike shrimp and crab. My dream… is also to become an outstanding ninja."

Although soft-spoken, Hinata's voice carried a quiet confidence. Gone was the shy, self-deprecating girl from the original story.

Years of training alongside Yagyu and the others had strengthened her resolve, earning her father's approval and dispelling her insecurities.

Finally, Shino introduced himself. "I'm Shino Aburame. I specialize in my clan's insect-based techniques. I enjoy vegetable salads and winter melon but dislike foods with overpowering flavors. My dream is to discover new insect species."

Kurenai nodded in satisfaction. "I see. I understand your skills and preferences. But I still need to assess your abilities and teamwork."

"Tomorrow at 8 AM, meet me here. We'll conduct a survival exercise."

With that, Kurenai vanished into the trees, leaving her team to prepare for the challenge ahead.
