Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Hopes Shattered – Mirai’s Plan
A green glow shimmered, and Chiyo's pure life force surged into Rasa's lifeless body.
Moments later, Rasa's broken body began to regenerate. His cracked skull mended itself, and his complexion slowly regained vitality.
After a brief silence, Rasa opened his eyes. Staring at Chiyo, now lifeless on the ground, he was overwhelmed with shock.
"Chiyo-sama, what… what happened?"
Confused, Rasa's voice trembled.
Hadn't he already been killed by Uchiha Mirai?
How could he be alive again?
"Rasa, you are the one I've chosen as the Fourth Kazekage," Chiyo stated calmly, her voice weak but resolute.
"The war is lost. I used a forbidden jutsu to bring you back. Protect the village."
With those last words, Chiyo's body fell motionless.
Rasa knelt, closing Chiyo's eyes gently. His heart churned with conflicting emotions.
He could never fully understand Chiyo.
A woman who had wielded immense authority, willing to ignite war with Konoha for her own agenda, yet in its aftermath, shouldered all the blame. And now, using her very life to bring him back…
"Sigh…"
Rasa exhaled deeply, lifting Chiyo's body in his arms. As he walked toward the door, a familiar voice called out in surprise:
"Chiyo-sama, you…"
The voice abruptly stopped.
Pakura stood frozen in shock, her wide eyes fixed on Chiyo's lifeless form.
Rasa met her gaze and spoke in a steady tone:
"From today onward, I am the Fourth Kazekage. Whatever grudges existed between us before, consider them erased. From now on, everything must be for the village."
Without another word, Rasa walked away, leaving Pakura standing motionless, her heart sinking into despair.
Her dreams of becoming Kazekage were utterly shattered.
Pakura wandered aimlessly through the desert.
The scorching heat bore down on her, but her heart felt colder than the endless sands around her.
Chiyo had sacrificed her life to revive Rasa but hadn't considered her, hadn't chosen her as the next Kazekage.
The rejection hit her hard.
Was she truly so unworthy?
Or was it simply that Magnet Release was everything?
"I gave everything for the village! Why couldn't I be given a chance?"
Her voice cracked as she clenched her fists. She hurled several flaming fireballs into the distance, their explosions intensifying the desert heat.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
The sound of slow clapping echoed behind her.
"Who's there?!"
Pakura spun around, but before she could act, a blade was pressed against her neck.
"Don't move. Move, and you die."
Mirai's cold expression came into view, his crimson eyes indifferent and sharp.
Cold sweat trickled down Pakura's back.
Why was this demon here?
"You seem… upset," Mirai observed, withdrawing his blade as his gaze lingered on her.
He couldn't help but find the woman intriguing. In the original timeline, Pakura had little screen time but met a tragic fate. Betrayed by her village, she was offered as a pawn in negotiations and killed by Kirigakure ninjas.
But now, with Rasa already dead and Sunagakure in turmoil, why was Pakura alone in the desert?
"Why are you here?" Pakura asked cautiously. Even without his weapon drawn, she didn't dare lower her guard.
"I came to collect gold dust," Mirai replied nonchalantly.
Pakura frowned, recalling that Mirai also possessed Magnet Release.
"Not talking? Fine, I'll figure it out myself."
Mirai's Mangekyō Sharingan spun, and a wave of oppressive energy radiated from his eyes.
Pakura's body froze. Her blood felt like it had turned to ice.
Those eyes…
Symbols of death and destruction.
Her mind blurred, and when she regained clarity, she realized Mirai was already stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"Interesting…" he murmured. Through his genjutsu, Mirai had delved into Pakura's memories.
He hadn't expected Chiyo to use her Reanimation Jutsu, not to revive Sasori's parents, but to resurrect Rasa.
Still, this unexpected development gave him an idea.
With his plans for uniting the shinobi world, strong allies would be essential. If he could recruit Pakura, it might prove worthwhile.
"Pakura," Mirai said slowly, "I can make you Kazekage."
Pakura stiffened, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "What are you planning?"
"Your strength and contributions are equal to Rasa's. Why should a dead man take the position of Kazekage?"
Mirai's smirk deepened. "If you want, I can kill Rasa for you."
Pakura immediately stepped back, glaring at him. "Don't even think about sowing discord. I won't betray my village!"
"Hahaha…" Mirai laughed, shaking his head. "So naive."
"Pakura, I've seen your future. No matter how loyal you are, the village will discard you. You'll become a bargaining chip, a sacrificial pawn in their games of power."
"Enough!" Pakura's voice was firm. "You can't manipulate me. Even if you kill me, I won't give in!"
Mirai shrugged indifferently. "Believe what you want. Time will prove me right."
He tossed a kunai at her feet. "Take this. Infuse it with chakra if you're ever in danger, and I'll come to you. Carry it with you—don't make me hear about your death next time."
Pakura hesitated but eventually picked up the kunai. "What's your real goal?"
Mirai smirked. "If you must know, I intend to bring true peace to the shinobi world. This decaying system needs to be rebuilt, and I'll establish a new order."
His words stunned Pakura.
A new order? True peace?
From anyone else, she would've laughed. But with Mirai's overwhelming strength, she felt a strange sense of conviction.
"Remember what I said." Mirai turned to leave. "Good luck, Pakura."
As his figure vanished, Pakura collapsed onto the sand. Her clothes clung to her, soaked with cold sweat.
After a long moment, she placed the kunai into her ninja pouch.
Curiosity tugged at her thoughts. What was Mirai truly after?
For now, she'd keep the kunai close. If nothing else, she wanted to see if his predictions would come true.
