Chapter 36: 36. Tobi or not Tobi?
(Powerstones Pwease -__-)
"Well, yeah, he was supposed to, but he dumped his responsibilities on Miyuki. It seems he's already taking advantage of their relationship," Yumi shook her head.
Innocent-looking Miyuki had fallen into a trap set by Yukio, and the latter was going to make her do his work.
Well, Yumi would be lying if she didn't like this.
She didn't like Miyuki anyway, so she enjoyed seeing her as a love-struck fool who couldn't do anything but dance in Yukio's palm.
Miyuki was left speechless by Yumi's statement.
She didn't know where to start with that misunderstanding.
They had a favour-exchange system to prevent such things, or one party would really exploit the other.
Given how Miyuki and Yukio's relationship worked, either party would willingly do the other's work, but they both had their own goals.
So, while it might seem a bit rude or businesslike in that regard, it was only for favours.
Some things weren't considered favours, and the other party couldn't reject them if certain things were asked.
Well, as mentioned, they were a couple and loved each other.
"Hmm, we have a favour system for that. You might have heard me saying to Yukio that he owes me a favour. I was serious about that."
Yumi looked at her, wondering if Miyuki was a love-struck fool or not.
To her displeasure, that seemed more likely.
How unfortunate.
"What do you mean by 'relationship'?" Itachi had picked up on that keyword, sensing it didn't mean just friends here.
"Yukio is dating Miyuki," Yumi told him.
"Oh... I see. Makes sense," Itachi thought it over and felt it was quite possible, as they had been on the same team and were close friends.
They travelled for a few hours before stopping for a rest.
Itachi sat on a branch, focusing on his breathing, which was rough.
Yumi sucked on a popsicle while sitting against the tree's trunk.
Miyuki was leaning against another tree.
"Sensei, how are we going to approach the miss-" Itachi's voice stopped mid-sentence as he saw a hand coming from the tree trunk, heading towards Yumi's head, just millimetres away.
He didn't know when his Sharingan had activated, but he could only helplessly watch as it closed the distance.

He saw a blue lightning beam that evaporated the tip of the kunai and sent the rest of it flying away.
Yumi's heart nearly leapt out of her chest when she saw from her peripheral vision that Miyuki had shot a lightning beam at her.
She even entertained the thought that Miyuki was going to kill her on this mission and tell Yukio she had died in action.
Or maybe Yukio already knew and had told Miyuki to kill her because he couldn't do it himself.
However, she let her logical side take over and realized that if Miyuki intended to kill her, she wouldn't miss her aim at such a short distance.
Which meant someone was behind her.
By the time she thought this, she had already jumped away from the lightning beam.
Miyuki had her sword out, ready in combat position.
Itachi hadn't moved from his spot, unsure if his movements could be used by the enemy.
"Get away from the trees, come near me," Miyuki ordered in a no-nonsense tone.
Itachi jumped from the tree, and fortunately, no one attacked him while he was in the air.
Yumi also dashed towards Miyuki.
Even though the distance was short, it felt much longer due to the presence of an unknown enemy.
Just as both reached her, Miyuki's sword flickered with blue lightning.
Itachi and Yumi could see a blue circular arc around them.
All the trees in the area were cut down.
No, even after being cut down, they still flickered with lightning and then burned to ashes.
Lightning could create fire.
Here is a prime example.
Itachi and Yumi gulped, having not even seen Miyuki's sword movement.
All they saw was the blue arc and the trees burning as they fell.
Time seemed to move slowly until a few seconds passed.
Then a few minutes.
"Who attacked us? Won't we get tired if we have to keep our guard up all the time, waiting for them to strike?" Itachi said, knowing he couldn't maintain his full guard for long.
"They escaped, from what I can sense," Miyuki said, lowering her sword.
"Really?" Yumi asked, lowering her guard as well.
Yet she still couldn't completely drop her defences given the situation.
"Yeah," Miyuki turned and started walking.
Just as Itachi turned around, he saw a hand materializing, heading straight for Miyuki's heart with a kunai.
Itachi's eyes widened in horror as it passed through her heart.
Yumi finally noticed it too, along with a man with an orange mask materializing.
She could see Miyuki's sword lodged in his head, but there was no blood from either his head or Miyuki's heart.
"If you let that hand materialize, you'll be shocked regardless of where your body is. I can also survive for a few minutes without my heart, so you better pray I die within five minutes. If not, you'll die here with me," Miyuki said without turning around, though both Yumi and Itachi shivered for some reason.
She wasn't even releasing killing intent, yet they felt unsafe.
Miyuki was gathering a lot of chakra inside her, ready to release it if Obito's hand fully materialized.
"I wonder how my information got leaked," Tobi said, leaking killing intent.
"Why don't you take a guess?" Miyuki smirked.
Yukio had recently captured a White Zetsu and read its memories.
Yes, Yukio could do both of those things.
This also helped him confirm his meta-information about certain aspects and how they differed due to his existence and that of Miyuki.
"I'm disappointed you chose this path," Miyuki said, turning around.
Tobi didn't meet her gaze.
He couldn't.
"I think this is the best path for the future," he said but didn't dare move the kunai from its position.
He wasn't sure if Miyuki resented him for killing Minato and might kill him over it.
"Yukio has decided on a different path. You should discuss the specifics with him. It's definitely better than the one you've chosen," Miyuki said, removing her sword from Obito's head.
It was still close enough that if he materialized his hand, she would be ready to take him down with her.
"I don't think there's a better path than the one I've chosen," Obito said, jumping back.
"That's because you haven't seen the other paths," Miyuki replied, still in a battle-ready stance.
"I think it's too late for me to switch sides. It was fun meeting you, though. Killing you is hard, I guess," Obito said, starting to disappear.
"Yukio will find you. It's not too late," she said before he fully vanished.
And there was silence.
"What just happened?" Yumi finally asked after a few seconds of silence.
She didn't understand anything.
"That was an old friend. We were just having a conversation," Miyuki shrugged.
"What do you mean by 'old friend'? He tried to kill me and you too. And how can he phase through things?" To say Yumi was bewildered would be an understatement.
She had been imagining her death if Miyuki had died.
And this madwoman had casually claimed she could function without her heart.
She didn't even know if that was a bluff or not.
"He probably wanted to kill you to upgrade Itachi's Sharingan," Miyuki commented.
"What? Why?" Yumi was baffled.
Had her only value become that if she died, someone else's bloodline would improve?
She shot a side glance at Itachi's stoic face.
"Well, he's playing the long game, and Itachi seems to be a cog in that future," Miyuki said.
"What? Then why did he try to kill you?"
"Well, I'd probably be a thorn in his plans, so it's better to kill me now, as it will probably be harder later," Miyuki said with a frown.
It's really hard to kill Obito because of his Mangekyou Sharingan.
Only Kakashi had a way to accomplish that, but he didn't yet have the chakra to sustain the Mangekyou safely.
So, currently, Obito was harder to kill than even Orochimaru.
"She might have to delve into some seals to counter his invincibility somehow.
She also needs to fully master Flying Thunder God, so that she can escape if she encounters him.
'Sensei, now what? Are we going to continue the mission or not?' Itachi asked.
If the masked man, who is also a friend of Miyuki, decided to attack them again, what then?
This time, they were lucky that he didn't explicitly attack both of them, but he really had a high chance of success in killing Yumi or Itachi.
'I will call Yukio. We need to have the ability to teleport now,' Miyuki said as she sent a signal with the help of a seal to Yukio.
To perform Flying Thunder God, both of them have to be present.
