The cry rang out as the Mist Village ninjas saw their comrades fall instantly, their faces filled with shock. The surviving Mist ninjas quickly regrouped, surrounding Orochimaru and Kimimaro with cold efficiency. From the Hidden Mist ship, more reinforcements poured onto the merchant vessel, their killing intent sharp.
"The Shadowy Snake Hand!"
Orochimaru's sinister grin deepened as his golden, snake-like eyes glinted. From his right hand, dozens of poisonous snakes shot out with terrifying speed, each targeting a Mist Village ninja. Despite their alertness, the ninjas couldn't dodge in time.
"Puff! Puff!"
One after another, the venomous snakes bit into exposed necks. The bitten ninjas staggered, foam bubbling from their mouths as their faces turned an eerie shade of blue. They collapsed lifelessly to the floor.
"Who are you? How dare you become an enemy of the Hidden Mist Village?" one ninja shouted, his voice a mixture of fury and fear.
"Enemy of the Hidden Mist Village?" Orochimaru echoed mockingly, his voice dripping with disdain. His grin widened as his sharp Kusanagi sword gleamed in the light. "So what?"
To Orochimaru, the Hidden Mist Village's reputation as one of the five great shinobi nations meant nothing. While their Anbu hunting squads might terrorize wandering and rogue ninjas, they posed no threat to someone of his caliber—a veteran Kage-level ninja. Only a handful of individuals in the Mist Village could challenge him, and none of them were present here.
"Puff, puff, puff—"
Orochimaru leapt into the fray, his Kusanagi blade cutting through the Mist ninjas like a hot knife through butter. Even those who attempted to defend themselves fell swiftly, their weapons and bodies unable to withstand his overwhelming power. Within moments, the deck of the ship was littered with the bodies of Mist ninjas, their blood staining the wood crimson.
The battle ended almost as quickly as it began. Every Mist ninja on the ship, including an elite jonin, lay dead.
With a single swift motion, Orochimaru scooped up the unconscious Kimimaro. He jumped from the merchant ship onto the sea's surface.
"Summoning Technique!"
Placing his palm on the water, Orochimaru summoned a giant serpent, which surfaced with a menacing hiss. The massive snake coiled beneath them and sped away across the waves, carrying Orochimaru and Kimimaro far from the merchant ship. Though he had dispatched the Mist ninjas aboard, Orochimaru had seen them release a signal flare. Reinforcements would soon converge on the area, and even he couldn't afford to be encircled by the Mist's forces at sea.
"Thank you for the distraction, Orochimaru," Uchiha Fugaku thought, smirking from his hiding place. With Orochimaru drawing the Mist Village's attention, Fugaku saw an opportunity to escape unnoticed with Yukiko.
Traveling a different route from Orochimaru, Fugaku carried Yukiko across the waves, using his powerful chakra reserves to sustain their journey. A few hours later, they reached the shores of the Land of Fire.
Having reached Konoha's territory, Fugaku knew they were safe. The Hidden Mist Village wouldn't risk launching a large-scale invasion into the Land of Fire, as it could provoke an all-out war with Konoha.
Deep within a secluded forest in the Land of Fire stood a dome-shaped structure, hidden beneath thick layers of vines and foliage. The building blended seamlessly with its surroundings, making it nearly impossible to detect unless someone stumbled upon it by chance.
This was the Uchiha Clan's secret base outside Konoha, a contingency created by Fugaku in case the clan faced annihilation in the village. It also served as a training ground for talented orphans taken in by the Uchiha.
As Fugaku and Yukiko approached, three figures in black appeared from their hiding spots, each bearing the unmistakable crimson glow of the Sharingan.
"Patriarch," the three greeted in unison, bowing respectfully after confirming his identity.
Fugaku nodded in acknowledgment and entered the base. Inside was a large, well-lit training hall. Dozens of children and teenagers were honing their skills under the watchful eyes of Uchiha trainers clad in black.
"Patriarch." The trainers bowed upon seeing Fugaku, their tone filled with reverence.
Fugaku nodded briefly and led Yukiko through the training hall into the residential quarters. There, a tall, sharp-featured man with an aura like an unsheathed blade approached.
"Patriarch, what brings you here?" the man asked. His name was Uchiha Hoshi, one of Fugaku's most trusted elite jonin, tasked with managing the base.
"This girl will be staying here for training," Fugaku explained, gesturing toward Yukiko. "She has exceptional talent."
Hoshi's gaze shifted to Yukiko, curiosity sparking in his eyes. "Exceptional? For you to say so, she must be extraordinary."
"She possesses the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai, and her potential rivals the strongest of her clan," Fugaku replied, his voice calm yet authoritative.
Hoshi's eyes gleamed with interest. "I see. I'll personally oversee her training."
Fugaku turned to Yukiko, his tone softening. "You're here because you have great potential. Don't waste it. Train diligently and grow stronger."
Yukiko nodded earnestly. "I won't disappoint you, Lord Fugaku. I'll become strong enough to repay your kindness."
Fugaku smiled faintly. Her maturity and determination exceeded her years, making her a valuable asset.
"You'll have your chance," Fugaku assured her. "When the time comes, I'll count on you."
As Fugaku left Yukiko in Hoshi's capable hands, he couldn't help but feel that saving her had been the right decision. In time, she would become a formidable ally, one that could change the balance of power in Konoha.
