Under the dim light of the high-hanging moon, Danzo Shimura walked beside Sarutobi Hiruzen, casting wary glances at the darkened streets of Konoha. The moon, once bright, was now obscured by clouds, and a chill seemed to creep into the night air.
"This doesn't feel right, Hiruzen," Danzo muttered, his gaze darting around suspiciously. "Why did Mito-sama summon us so late? I have a bad feeling about this."
Hiruzen remained calm, his face expressionless. "If this is fate, we'll face it. If it's disaster, we can't escape it." He sighed. "Whatever awaits us, we must face it head-on."
Danzo shivered at his friend's words. But seeing Hiruzen quicken his pace, he hurried to keep up.
---
In the Senju residence, Koharu Utatane, Homura Mitokado, Uchiha Kagami, and Torifu Akimichi had arrived before the others. They stood in a long, dimly lit hall, lined on either side by rows of Senju clan members. The silence was heavy, and each figure seemed to cast a shadow that loomed over the group, giving the room a tense, foreboding atmosphere.
When Hiruzen and Danzo finally entered, they were met with looks of sympathy from Koharu and Homura. The oppressive atmosphere had left everyone feeling vulnerable. Koharu and Homura, without strong family backing, felt particularly exposed, like pawns awaiting their fate. In contrast, Uchiha Kagami and Torifu Akimichi were somewhat shielded by their clan status. The Uchiha clan, with Kagami as their representative, held a unique political weight, and Torifu's connection to the future Ino-Shika-Cho formation solidified his standing.
At the head of the room, Uzumaki Mito sat in silence, her face unreadable. She glanced briefly at Uchiha Kagami, then returned to sipping her tea, her demeanor cool and composed. The others waited, sensing that something serious was at stake.
When Hiruzen and Danzo stepped into the room, the Senju clan members closed the door behind them, the finality of the sound causing everyone's heart to race.
---
With everyone present, Mito finally set her teacup down, looking directly at Hiruzen. Her gaze was steady, but her aura was fierce, her chakra radiating powerfully throughout the room.
"I remember instructing all of you," Mito began, her voice calm yet firm, "not to let any word of Tobirama's death escape from this household."
She paused, her eyes narrowing. "Yet, by afternoon, all of Konoha knew. I want an explanation."
Her voice was sharp, a command rather than a request, and the room seemed to pulse with her anger. Her chakra flared, and a hint of the Nine-Tails' energy seeped into the room, pressing down on everyone like an invisible weight. The eerie and chaotic chakra was a reminder of Mito's own power, and the reality that no one in the room could take her lightly.
Koharu was the first to break. "M-Mito-sama, I swear, I haven't left my room all day except to see the medical ninjas. I wouldn't do anything to betray Tobirama-sensei's wishes!" Her voice was desperate, her fear evident.
Homura joined in, his voice equally frantic. "I stayed in my quarters all day, as ordered. I swear on my family, I would never betray Tobirama-sama!"
One by one, the others voiced similar oaths, each trying to prove their innocence with hurried pledges and promises. Danzo, though nervous, maintained his composure, echoing his friends' words.
But Mito was unimpressed, her expression hardened. "Swearing oaths won't give me answers," she replied coldly. "I need the truth."
As the six ninjas stood trembling, the tension thick in the air, the door swung open. Senju Momoki entered, her expression resolute as she approached Mito.
"Mito-sama," she announced, "we've tracked the source of the rumors. They all originated from Uchiha-owned shops around the village."
The revelation sent a wave of shock through the room. All eyes turned to Uchiha Kagami, whose face reflected both surprise and confusion.
"Me?" Kagami stammered, bewildered by the sudden scrutiny.
