Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Bribing Tsunade
"Shizune-senpai, come back tomorrow."
After half an hour, Kiyoshi had a pleased grin on his face. He pulled back his right hand, the faint green glow on his fingertips disappearing.
"I get it… But don't tell anyone."
Shizune's cheeks flushed as she practically ran out of Kiyoshi's room, her clothes slightly disheveled.
She had no idea what had possessed her, but somehow, she had fallen for Kiyoshi's smooth words and even found herself nearly letting out a sound.
How embarrassing! She wouldn't be able to look anyone in the eye after this. Yet, if this could really make her more like Lady Tsunade…
Creak.
Shizune had just returned to her room.
Given the late hour, Karin had already succumbed to sleep, unable to fight her exhaustion any longer. Shizune quickly grabbed a clean set of clothes and darted into the bathroom.
"All done?" Tsunade stepped into Kiyoshi's room, raising an eyebrow. "What were you up to just now? Shizune practically flew past me."
She had heard the commotion and looked out her door, but Shizune had scurried off so quickly that she hadn't even had a chance to greet her.
"Well, here's what happened." Kiyoshi didn't hold back. Grinning, he leaned in close to Tsunade's ear, whispering.
After listening, Tsunade's lovely face flushed red. Rolling her eyes, she gave Kiyoshi a light glare.
"You pervert! Always learning the bad things."
"Hehe." Kiyoshi hugged her, blinking playfully.
"Come on, I helped Shizune-senpai fulfill a dream. Tsunade-nee, don't you think I deserve a reward?"
His words carried a double meaning, but he didn't clarify what "dream" he meant.
"Don't even think about it! Last night was the last time." Tsunade wriggled out of his grasp, her tone firm. "I'm your teacher, you brat."
As if! If she let him keep pushing the limits, she might just find herself giving in.
"The last time."
"Come on, just one more." Kiyoshi could see that Tsunade was resolute. As a Sannin, she wouldn't easily be swayed once she made up her mind.
"How about five million ryo? Tomorrow, I'll take you to the casino."
Kiyoshi's eyes sparkled with a sly plan. He'd only just restored his human pillow, he wasn't about to let it slip away so easily.
"No way." Tsunade shook her head firmly, arms crossed, giving him a sidelong look. Does this kid really think he can tempt the great Tsunade with just that?
"We can sneak off to the casino for a couple of days." Kiyoshi proposed, smiling. "I'll even leave a clone behind so Shizune and Karin won't notice."
Seeing Tsunade still unmoved, he upped his offer.
"Three days."
Tsunade's expression shifted slightly, her delicate features showing a hint of hesitation. She wanted to refuse, but the offer was just too tempting.
Memories of yesterday's dream flickered in her mind, stirring something in her. Both afraid and intrigued, a faint longing lingered.
Fine, just this once! She would indulge him this last time.
Tsunade's expression wavered before she gritted her teeth, making a difficult decision.
"Deal."
After all, they hadn't done anything inappropriate… It was just being a pillow, right? Not like it was the first time.
"Great." Kiyoshi nodded with a grin, his inner satisfaction spilling over. Just as I thought, this was the only way.
"You brat." Tsunade sighed, looking at Kiyoshi's delighted, boyish face. "Kiyoshi, this really is the last time."
She couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at this strange bond they shared.
"Then I'll just have to treasure it twice as much."
…
Meanwhile—
Kiyoshi had no idea that just outside the town, at the battlefield where he'd fought with Jiraiya earlier in the afternoon, a strange figure resembling a pitcher plant emerged from the ground.
At the end of the day, Kiyoshi was still a human, though a particularly strong one.
It wasn't practical for him to keep his sensory abilities active at all times, living cautiously, always on guard, was just too exhausting, and that wasn't the life he wanted.
But surprisingly, the mysterious figure shrouded in pitcher plant-like foliage had a body split into two colors: one half white, the other black.
The white side looked exactly like the White Zetsu clones Kiyoshi had already dealt with. It gave off a rather eerie vibe.
"Ara, what a mess this place is." Under the moonlight, White Zetsu took in the destruction surrounding the battlefield.
He sounded surprised. "It seems the other Sannin besides Tsunade, the 'Toad Sage' Jiraiya, also came here."
"It looks like your missing clone might have been spotted by them," Black Zetsu rasped, scanning the area.
"And our target… might already be gone too. There haven't been any incidents here for days."
"This level of destruction… that member of the Jashin cult must have been quite powerful," White Zetsu noted, pointing to the debris-strewn battlefield.
"I heard rumors of a giant toad showing up, which means Jiraiya likely fought here himself."
"No, didn't you notice? There are traces of Wood Release chakra here." Black Zetsu's gaze sharpened as he continued, "That forest was clearly created deliberately."
He looked at the dense forest that had sprung up across the battlefield, able to feel the strong, unmistakable presence of Wood Release chakra still emanating from it.
"Wood Release?" White Zetsu murmured in astonishment. "So, was it Tsunade, or Jiraiya?"
"Tsunade, as the granddaughter of the First Hokage, carries the Senju bloodline, it's not impossible," Black Zetsu mused.
"Remember that incredible battle outside the Fire Capital two years ago? They found Wood Release traces there too."
From what Akatsuki had gathered, that battle had involved Danzo leading his Root forces, likely targeting Tsunade. She had been near the capital with her apprentice at the time.
Root had taken a significant blow, forced to retreat.
At the time, they'd assumed the Wood Release traces were Danzo's doing, since he was rumored to have struck secret deals with Orochimaru, who was known for researching the First Hokage's cells.
But now, it seemed more likely that Tsunade herself had awakened the Wood Release.
"So, should we monitor them?" White Zetsu asked.
After a moment's thought, Black Zetsu shook his head. "If they were able to detect your clone, their sensory skills must be excellent. We'd better avoid direct action."
"We should report this to Obito."
The forest's expanse, pulsing with strong Wood Release chakra, was a clear sign of Tsunade's mastery over Wood Release—her version far surpassing Obito's basic skills.
