Chapter 21: 21. FPS Pt 3
As the sparring session continued, Ryusei stepped back, signaling for everyone to pause. He could see the progress they'd made, but he knew they were ready to take another step forward—this time into the realm of energy that went beyond chakra. He looked at each of them, his gaze intense but encouraging.
"All right, everyone," he began, his voice steady. "It's time to introduce you to the forces of Time and Void. These energies aren't like chakra or ki; they're far more volatile and difficult to control. For now, I just want you to learn how to infuse small sparks of these energies into your attacks. It's a start, and as you grow more comfortable, you'll be able to wield them more effectively."
Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura nodded, their faces reflecting both curiosity and excitement. Anon stepped forward, adding to Ryusei's instructions. "The Void is about emptiness and negation. When you infuse it into your attacks, you're adding an element that disrupts and absorbs, nullifying aspects of your opponent's energy. The trick is to visualize that emptiness within your attack—a flicker of void that consumes rather than creates."
Ryusei continued, "Time, on the other hand, is about flow. When you add it to your skills, you're manipulating the pace of reality itself, even if only for a moment. It's like adding an extra beat to your rhythm. It won't stop time, but it'll give your attack a temporal edge, a delay or acceleration that can throw your opponent off."
Naruto was the first to step forward, clenching his fists and focusing on the energy around him. "So, how do I do that? I mean, I get how to use chakra, but this feels… different."
Ryusei nodded. "Start with your Rasengan. Imagine a spark of Void energy in the core. Not enough to change it, but just enough to give it a new edge." He gestured for Naruto to go ahead, watching as Naruto formed the spinning sphere of chakra in his hand.
Naruto concentrated, narrowing his gaze as he tried to sense the Void within him. He could feel it, faint and elusive, like a shadow dancing just beyond his reach. Focusing harder, he allowed a tiny spark of that emptiness to flow into the Rasengan. The orb shifted slightly, its surface darkening as though it had absorbed a drop of ink. He glanced at Ryusei, a bit uncertain.
"That's good," Ryusei said, his voice encouraging. "Now, keep it steady and feel how the Void changes it. The Rasengan should be lighter, almost like it's hollowed out in the center. Try throwing it and see what happens."
Naruto nodded, pulling his arm back and releasing the altered Rasengan toward a nearby boulder. As it struck, the boulder cracked, and a part of it seemed to vanish momentarily, leaving an empty void that imploded before crumbling away.
Naruto's eyes widened, a grin spreading across his face. "Whoa! Did you see that? It's like it ate part of the rock!"
Sasuke stepped forward, intrigued. "So, Time works similarly, but with a different effect?" He activated his Chidori, the crackling lightning illuminating his hand.
Anon nodded, stepping beside him. "Exactly. Infuse a spark of Time into the Chidori. Imagine it stretching the moment it hits, like it's piercing not just the target, but time itself."
Sasuke concentrated, focusing on his Chidori as he let a sliver of Time energy flow into the lightning. He felt it—a subtle shift, like an extra beat in a song. The Chidori elongated, its lightning tendrils stretching out farther than usual. He drove it into a nearby tree, and as it connected, the impact seemed to slow down, each crackle of lightning frozen in time before accelerating again. The tree burst apart, but there was a peculiar delay, as if the damage had taken a split second to fully register.
Sasuke withdrew his hand, his expression one of quiet awe. "I felt it… It was like my attack moved in slow motion for a second. That extra beat threw everything off just enough."
Sakura watched intently, then raised her own hand, channeling her chakra into her palm. "How about with healing chakra?" she asked, looking between Ryusei and Anon.
Ryusei nodded. "Time and Void can both enhance healing, though they're tricky. Try a tiny bit of Time energy. It should allow your healing to stretch further, like you're accelerating the recovery of cells."
Sakura focused, channeling a minute spark of Time energy into her chakra, which glowed brighter. She placed her hand on a small cut on her arm, and as she did, she felt the warmth spread faster, almost as though the healing process had sped up. The cut closed in seconds, her body responding to the infusion of temporal energy.
She smiled, a flicker of amazement in her eyes. "It worked… It's like my chakra knew how to heal faster."
Naruto, always curious, looked over at Anon. "What about using both Void and Time? Can we put a little of each into one attack?"
Anon raised an eyebrow. "Ambitious. But for now, stick to one. Blending them can be volatile. You'll need more practice before you can safely combine them. Master them separately first."
Ryusei agreed. "Anon's right. For now, just get used to the feeling. A spark here, a flicker there. Learn how they change your attacks. Void will always feel like it's pulling something away, like an absence within your move. Time will feel like an extra step, a beat that alters the flow."
They continued to practice, each of them experimenting with the new energies. Naruto tried adding Void to his shadow clones, creating clones that flickered and faded, like shadows themselves. Sasuke infused his fireball jutsu with Time, the flames elongating and almost seeming to pause mid-air before blazing forward with renewed speed. Sakura infused her strength with Void, pulling energy from the environment around her as she punched, leaving small distortions in her wake.
Ryusei and Anon watched, offering tips and adjustments as they went along, guiding them through the intricacies of wielding energies that reached beyond their world. It was a first step, but they were learning quickly, feeling their way into a new realm of power that would soon become second nature.
By the time they finished, they each had a better grasp on these new forces—enough to use them in small bursts, enough to feel the power they could one day wield with mastery. They had taken a crucial step, and while there was much more to learn, the potential for growth was undeniable.
Together, they would harness these energies fully. For now, though, they were content with the sparks they'd ignited, knowing that each step forward was bringing them closer to becoming the warriors they needed to be.
As the sparring session wound down, Ryusei stretched his arms, feeling the weight of the day's training settling into his muscles. "We've made a lot of progress today," he said, looking around at Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. "But we'll need to rest if we're going to be at our best when we head back to the battlefield. Let's catch some sleep and prepare ourselves for what's coming."
The group nodded, each of them finding a place to sit and relax within the ethereal, shifting landscape of the Void of Time. The usual restlessness that followed intense training was there, but they had tapped into something more profound, and the exhaustion that accompanied it was tempered with a sense of purpose.
As they settled in, Ryusei turned to Anon. "Before we head back, can you give us an idea of what's happening in the ninja world where you're from? We need to know what we're walking into."
Anon sighed, his expression growing somber as he crossed his arms and leaned back against a dark, swirling tendril of Void energy. "The world I come from is… different. More fractured. The ninja villages aren't exactly unified. The Akatsuki's influence has spread like wildfire, and rogue shinobi have formed alliances with them, creating cells across the major villages. The war there isn't just between villages—it's chaos on a global scale."
Naruto sat up, frowning as he absorbed Anon's words. "So it's like a war against the Akatsuki and these rogue ninja alliances?"
"Exactly," Anon replied. "And they've been using forbidden jutsus, techniques that are breaking the balance of the world. Edo Tensei is one of them, but there are others—dark jutsus that manipulate reality, time, even life itself. It's why you saw so many reanimated shinobi earlier. The Akatsuki and their allies are raising armies from the dead to overwhelm the villages."
Sasuke's gaze sharpened, his Sharingan flickering briefly. "So, they're bringing back powerful shinobi to fight for them, forcing the villages to face their own dead. And I'm guessing the villages don't have a solution to counter that yet?"
Anon shook his head. "No, and that's why I've been fighting them alone for so long. Without a unified force to push back, it's been a losing battle. They've been exploiting the villages' divisions, and it's been working."
Sakura's face was tight with concern. "Are any of the Kage standing up to them? What about the Hokage?"
Anon nodded. "The Hokage has rallied the Leaf Village, but they're outnumbered. They've been defending against relentless attacks and doing their best to protect civilians. But every time they gain ground, the Akatsuki's forces push them back with these forbidden techniques. It's an endless cycle. The other villages have been slower to act, either caught up in their own battles or wary of forming alliances. Trust is scarce."
Ryusei took it all in, a sense of urgency building within him. "So, we're walking into a war zone with fragmented defenses and rogue ninja using powers that disrupt reality. Sounds like our new skills will be more than just an advantage—they'll be essential."
Anon nodded, his expression serious. "Exactly. The Akatsuki has always been dangerous, but now they're fighting with weapons that push the boundaries of life and death. The Void and Time energies we've been working with will help, but we'll need to be prepared for the unexpected. In my world, allies can quickly become enemies, and nothing is ever quite what it seems."
Naruto clenched his fists, a determined look in his eyes. "Then we're gonna have to change that. If they're raising the dead, then we'll have to fight like hell to put them back down."
Sasuke smirked, his voice cold but resolute. "We've seen enough already to know that we're stronger together. We can use this energy, our new skills, to turn the tide. We'll make them regret underestimating us."
Sakura glanced at Ryusei, her gaze steady and filled with resolve. "We're with you. This isn't just about your world, Anon. If they succeed there, it won't be long before they try to spread beyond it. We're ready to fight."
Ryusei stood up, his energy renewed by the resolve in his friends' faces. "Let's get some rest. Tomorrow, we return to the battlefield, and we're bringing everything we've learned here. Anon, thank you for the briefing. It sounds like this is exactly where we need to be."
Anon nodded, a rare smile crossing his face. "I'm glad to have you all with me. For the first time, I actually think we have a chance."
The group lay back, each of them lost in their own thoughts as they prepared for the battle ahead. The Void of Time pulsed quietly around them, as if sensing their purpose and lending them its own silent strength. They knew they were walking into a fight unlike any they'd faced before, but they were ready to face it together, armed with powers that transcended their world and bound by the trust that had grown between them.
Tomorrow, they would return to a war-torn world, and this time, they would be more than just shinobi—they would be warriors of the Void and Time, prepared to reshape the battle and protect the future of the ninja world.
