chapter 7
start audition
“Ha! Why is it number 1? I’ll go and come.”
“Fighting Bro!”
“Okay Man.”
One of the students from the art university got up and went into the audition room with a friend punched once, and then came out with a rather dark face after about 3 minutes.
“Thank you. We will inform you of the results later. I’m sorry, but you can’t talk to other people, so just go down there.”
The staff standing in front of the door guided Na Seong-jin to the exit.
“The next participant, No. 2 Jeong Soo-yeon.”
Jung Soo-yeon, who was a little known among young people through her web drama sitting in the corner, entered and came out after a while.
Like the other participants who entered earlier, his face was dark.
“Hey, what should I do?”
A sigh that Jung Soo-yeon let out without realizing it as she came out of the audition hall.
‘If you do this, you will have the same route as Jooyoung unnie.’
Jung Soo-yeon leaves the audition with a dark face.
The actor next to Yeon-woo who saw it spoke to him.
“Wow, the atmosphere is pretty tight, don’t you think?”
“I think so. I’m nervous because it’s my first time.”
Yeon-woo smiles slightly at the actor who spoke to him first.
“If you just do what you normally do in front of the camera, you’ll be fine. Well, I’m not in a position to tell anyone else. Whoa!”
He gave advice to Yeonwoo, who said it was his first audition, and took a deep breath to see if he was nervous too.
“Anyway, let’s get good results. I’m Junho Ahn. If I’m in this work, it’s the third time. I’ve only played small roles, so it’s virtually unknown.”
He reached out to Yeon-woo and asked for a handshake.
“Yes, I am Ryu Yeon-woo. Senior. This is my first time.”
Yeonwoo smiled broadly, holding out her hand.
“Ah, what’s wrong with your senior? But, looking at Yeonwoo’s face, you’ll soon become famous, don’t you?”
“Thank you for your kind words.”
Then, the voice of the staff calling Ahn Jun-ho.
“No. 4 Jun-ho Ahn? Jun-ho Ahn, I’ll go in.”
“Ah, why are you so unlucky for number 4? Isn’t this also fate. I’ll go in first, Mr. Yeonwoo.”
Ahn Jun-ho wakes up to greet Yeon-woo.
After that, several people auditioned and Yeonwoo’s turn came.
“The next person to come in, let’s see. Ryu Yeon-woo? You don’t even have a picture in your profile?”
“Oh, that’s that person. Chul-min Jeong called in a hurry a few days ago and asked me to put some students in the audition, so I simply wrote down personal information and sent it.”
At the words of director Kim Han-soo, writer Choi Mi-hyun said as if welcomed.
“Aha, Chulmin-san recommended it. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. Was the last time you filmed “Seeing the End”?”
“Ah, did Cheol-min appear once in a supporting role in Choi’s work?”
“Yes, director. He was a perfect supporting actor. It’s because the work was ruined, but Cheol-min did really well back then.”
When Hansoo Kim and Mihyun Choi remembered about Chulmin Jeong, caddy Yunseok Jeong added:
“By the way, that actor. His acting is absolutely flawless. His teaching skills are not very good, and he sent actors to audition for my commercial films several times, but I have never selected them.”
“Hmm. It may be that we haven’t found the gemstone yet. Mr. Jeong Chul-min is probably in the countryside right now? Apparently, in this industry, the pool of manpower in Seoul and the provinces is different.”
At that time, the door opened and Ryu Yeon-woo strode in and stood in the center of the audition hall.
“Hello! I’m Ryu Yeon-woo, a rookie actor who applied for the audition for ‘Summer Wardrobe’ this time.”
It is a face that creates the illusion of a halo coming out from behind with a sculpted appearance.
“Wow. I found it.”
Writer Choi Mi-hyun said while dropping the pen she was holding onto the desk.
The directors came to their senses at the words of Choi Mi-hyeon, which she quietly spit out without realizing it.
“Cheol-min asked me to see a disciple. First of all, the visuals are very good.”
“Thank you, Director.”
At the mention of teacher Jeong Chul-min, Yeon-woo recognized that he was director Kim Han-soo.
“I don’t have an acting career yet. Besides, I’m still underage, hmm… How long has it been since you started acting?”
“Yeah, I’ve been learning acting for about six months now.”
Jung Yun-seok, casting director, smiled slightly as if it was interesting but disappointing.
“It looks like it’s going to be great, but it’s six months… Let’s see. Shall we start, Director?”
Director Kim Han-soo nodded at Caddy Jung’s words and ordered Yeon-woo to act freely.
“Is it okay if I play any role in the script?”
“Yes, if there is a role we want to see more of, we will order it again as a designated acting, so you can play any role or any scene in the script we sent you.”
“Okay. Rookie actor Ryu Yeon-woo, I will start acting in episode 2 of scene 16.”
Seeing the young man who was about to start acting, writer Choi Mi-hyun prayed that he would do well.
His appearance is perfect, but if his acting skills support him a little, it’s a blessing.
Yeon-woo put the script he brought with him, and the director turned over the script to find scene 16 of episode 2.
The role to be played this time, ‘Cha Woo-joo’, is the son of a conglomerate.
In the previous scenario, he goes to the modeling department despite his father’s opposition, gets kicked out of his house, and has nowhere to go, so he spends his time sitting on the campus chair.
At that time, a basketball flew and collided with the bike parked next to it, and the impact broke the bike’s mirror, and the scene that Yeonwoo will act is the next scene.
Instead of compensating for damage to ‘Kang Seo-joon’, the male protagonist of the drama who threw a basketball, he follows him to the house and forces him to live in his own house.
There were some strategic reasons for choosing this scene for free acting.
Scene 16 of episode 2 is the scene that can show the most colorful changes in facial expressions among the contents of the scenario received for the audition.
And, it is the most powerful weapon among the strengths that Yeonwoo can present.
‘Okay, this is the first audition, but let’s show only what we practiced.’
Yeonwoo starts acting in earnest.
“Oh, I don’t know. You broke my bike, so I’ll sleep here. There’s two rooms anyway.”
He covered his ears as if he couldn’t hear Yeonwoo and lay on the stage.
Then, after a while, he jumped up again and spit out the next line in a conciliatory voice, as if whispering like a merchant.
“Well, I have nowhere to go? And you, do you know how much that motorcycle cost? It’s cheap. What kind of world is it these days?”
Maybe it’s because I didn’t expect it to be that I just learned acting.
The directors showed interest in seeing Yeonwoo pouring out lines more naturally than expected.
“No! Hey, let go. Don’t drag him away! Wow, look how strong this guy is.”
Even though there is no one in front of her, Yeon-woo speaks in an urgent voice as if she is really being dragged away.
“Hey, are you really going to get me out of this cold winter?”
“Ah, it’s spring. No, don’t you know the spring cold?”
Yeon-woo poured out his lines one after another, nonstop and comically.
The acting wasn’t that great, but it’s still incredible that it’s only been half a year since I started.
However, the eyes of the directors looking at Yeonwoo seemed to be just that much.
‘If you want to get even a single role by making a snow stamp… Should I do it too?’
Yeon-woo began to control his mind inside.
‘I am Ryu Yeon-woo. Being 18 years old, it can be cute. It can be cute enough.’
He opened his eyes wide as if he had already made up his mind, and deliberately looked towards the director.
“A. Friend, think again. If you get to know each other for a day, you’re a friend. Now, look at my rabbit-like eyes. Doesn’t something change your mind?”
He covered his face with both hands and blinked softly.
With her sculptural appearance, she constantly blinked big and pretty eyes that could be mistaken for a woman, and she became aegyo in itself and melted the hearts of the directors who were watching.
“It’s perfect. Thank you for watching.”
It must be an illusion that Yeon-woo’s cheeks tremble as he lowers his head.
Yeon-woo, who returned with an expressionless expression, went back to the center where he had put down the script and stood there.
A few seconds had passed since the silence had passed.
“Isn’t your vocalization okay?”
“If you refine it a little, it will grow quickly, right?”
“It’s only been half a year. If the academy has increased this much, it will be as soon as you leave the field.”
Director Kim Han-soo, who barely came to his senses at the evaluation of the judges heard from the side, nodded as if he had decided something.
“I enjoyed it. Let’s see, scene 32 of episode 3? Let’s see this one more time. You can take your time and read it slowly.”
Director Kim points to Yeon-woo’s script laid down on the floor and orders another scene.
‘If it’s number 32 in episode 3, umm. The designated acting is also a scene of Cha Woo-Joo.’
After thinking for a moment, Ryu Yeon-woo opened his mouth.
“I’ll start right away.”
At Yeonwoo’s words, the directors tilted their heads.
‘Are you starting right away? It’s not even a supporting scene, maybe. Did you memorize the whole script?’
“Come on, choose, choose. Huh? That sweater? It suits you so well. Because you have a pretty face, does anything go well with you?”
Yeon-woo’s natural acting makes it feel like there’s a girl in front of me wearing a sweater on my body.
“There’s a fitting room in the back, so let’s wear it and come out. Huh? I’ll look at it. Noona.”
While talking to the customer on the right with a smile on his face, he immediately turns to the left and turns into an expressionless expression.
“Hey, Yeoreum Jung. You said for sure. If you sell 20 copies of this today, are you going to give me a room for your newlyweds?”
And Yeon-woo continues the lines by waving his hands as if summer’s words are bothersome.
“Oh, I don’t know. Whether you’re newlyweds or childhood friends. Are you putting me to bed? Yes, that’s all.”
With a changing expression, Cha Woo-joo treats customers with a bright smile when looking to the right, and treats Jung Yeo-eum as if he is annoyed when looking to the left.
‘I was going to pick this up two separate times while filming. If you can do it perfectly like that, you can take a full shot and go with a one-take. If that’s possible, I’d rather have a picture.’
Director Kim Han-soo, who keeps on taking notes while nodding his head after seeing Ryu Yeon-woo’s performance.
“It’s perfect. Thank you for watching.”
After all, Yeon-woo finished acting again and stood in the middle to greet him.
clap clap!
Writer Mi-hyeon Choi, who claps and smiles broadly, making it difficult to see it as an audition venue.
Casting director Jung Yun-seok asked me what I was curious about from the beginning.
