Night of the Apocalypse

Chapter 58 - Trouble

Shen Qiu began to repeatedly experiment with his ability, with arcs of electricity continuously appearing and disappearing from his hands. Although his control wasn’t perfect, he was gradually improving.

After practicing for about half an hour, his gaze shifted to the television, air conditioning, and other electrical appliances in his home.

He felt an inexplicable urge to use these appliances for practice, but in the end, rationality triumphed over impulse.

These appliances cost money; he couldn’t be so wasteful.

Suddenly, Shen Qiu thought of something. He picked up his phone, opened a delivery app, and placed an order for a voltage meter.

About ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door.

Shen Qiu walked over and opened the door to see a young delivery guy standing there.

“Sir, here’s your item! Please give a five-star rating!”

“Sure!”

Shen Qiu took the bag and casually closed the door behind him.

He picked up his phone and tapped to leave a good review, then opened the bag to take out the voltage meter.

The voltage meter was standard, measuring a voltage range of 0 to 500V, which should be perfect for practice.

Shen Qiu held the voltage meter’s circuit and concentrated slightly.

Zizi~

The voltage instantly deflected to 100V.

Shen Qiu raised his eyebrows at this number and focused his mind a little more, causing the voltage to increase steadily.

Before long, the voltage exceeded 220V, which indicated that his ability could indeed be lethal to an ordinary person.

Taking a deep breath, Shen Qiu cleared the chaotic thoughts in his mind, fixed his gaze on the voltage meter, and began to control and release arcs of electricity, practicing precise control.

Time passed slowly.

Shen Qiu felt beads of sweat forming on his forehead; the practice of precise control was harder than he had imagined.

Often, if he wasn’t careful, the released electrical energy would exceed the limit.

However, rather than getting discouraged by the failures, Shen Qiu’s competitive spirit was ignited, prompting him to keep experimenting.

Just then, a sudden and deafening sonic boom echoed through the air.

The glass in the room rattled violently.

Shen Qiu was also startled, and his hands instinctively released a violent arc of electricity!

Boom~*

The voltage meter was directly penetrated, smoke billowing out!

Shen Qiu’s face twitched slightly as he walked over to the window to look outside.

He saw fighter jets zooming past from high above.

Watching the aircraft, his eyelids twitched; even fighter jets were deployed, indicating that the situation was dire.

It was important to know that fighter jets were prohibited from entering the urban area.

Thinking of this, Shen Qiu immediately walked towards the kitchen.

Before long, he returned to the bedroom, holding a large pile of compressed biscuits, bottled water, and emergency medication.

He stuffed all these items into his backpack.

It’s better to be prepared than to be caught off guard!

In the evening, Shen Qiu sat at his computer desk, where a book, a folder, a gray triangular module, and a chip the size of a fingernail were laid out in front of him.

These were all spoils he had obtained.

Shen Qiu first picked up the gray triangular module and examined it closely.

According to Huang Lang, this thing is called a gene module, and genes are most likely related to evolution.

Shen Qiu was now very suspicious that this module had a connection to his abilities.

But how it was related, he couldn’t quite figure out at the moment. Moreover, he didn’t dare to experiment recklessly; it would be troublesome if something went wrong.

With that in mind, Shen Qiu placed the triangular module back on the desk and picked up the book, trying to flip through its pages.

The book was filled with dense, incomprehensible writing, interspersed with complex biological diagrams.

Shen Qiu stroked his chin, pondering. This book was probably related to biology, but unfortunately, he couldn’t understand any of the text.

Thus, after flipping through it a few times, he was still completely confused.

Shen Qiu sighed, putting the book back on the desk. His gaze fell on the small chip, and after hesitating for a moment, he decided to abandon further research on it.

He figured he wouldn’t be able to figure anything out from his research anyway. If he accidentally triggered his abilities and broke something, it would really be not worth the trouble.

In the end, Shen Qiu’s gaze landed on the folder.

He opened the folder and pulled out a stack of blueprints.

The blueprints were filled with intricate diagrams of mechanical parts, each one labeled with dense, incomprehensible writing.

Shen Qiu examined those part diagrams closely; their shapes were very strange, and he couldn’t make out what they were at all.

He could only flip through them one by one.

When Shen Qiu reached the last page, his pupils suddenly constricted.

He brought the blueprint closer for a better look.

On the last page, there was a drawing of a humanoid mechanical armor, with a lot of detailed information on it.

Although Shen Qiu couldn’t understand it, he could still guess a little bit from the complete diagram. He muttered to himself, “This wouldn’t be some sort of exoskeleton armor, would it?”

As soon as that thought crossed his mind, it stuck with him, like a brand imprinted in Shen Qiu’s brain.

Shen Qiu was increasingly convinced that this was some sort of mechanical equipment.

If this thing could be manufactured, it would be like having a cheat code; it would be hundreds of times stronger than the current mainstream defensive equipment, like bulletproof vests. Once worn, the survival rate would skyrocket!

Shen Qiu’s gaze grew even more fervent as he repeatedly flipped through the materials.

Unfortunately, no matter how much he flipped through them, he still couldn’t understand anything.

He immediately opened his computer, found a hidden software, and accessed the Dark Eye website.

As soon as he entered the site, an overwhelming number of posts popped up.

In just a few days, the Dark Eye website had updated an unfathomable amount of information.

Shen Qiu was very surprised. He first tried searching and translated two words.

Suddenly, over 3,000 help posts appeared.

“High reward for a language expert, preferably with an archaeology background! Price is negotiable! As long as you can help me translate the information, it’s fine.”

“Sky-high price for a language expert!”

As Shen Qiu looked at these posts, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. It seemed that those experts who specialized in obscure languages never expected to become so sought after one day.

Just then, Shen Qiu suddenly saw a post.

“Offering a language professor from Petersburg University, freshly minted! Only 5 million Blue Alliance coins!”

Attached to the post was a photo of a gray-haired old man, bound and gagged.

The corner of Shen Qiu’s mouth twitched slightly as he closed the post. It was clear that as long as the profit was high enough, there was nothing they wouldn’t dare to do.

He continued browsing the Dark Eye website, hoping to find information that would be helpful to him.

After flipping through for a long time, Shen Qiu still hadn’t found any reliable information.

There were posts claiming that some people were proficient in translation and could translate all kinds of texts and books.

Shen Qiu didn’t believe these fishing attempts at all; these guys either wanted to get something for nothing or were planning to engage in a shady deal.

Of course, it couldn’t be ruled out that there were genuinely skilled individuals, but who could distinguish between the two?

Shen Qiu yawned and continued to drag the mouse, scrolling through the Dark Eye website’s interface.

As he looked at the various posts, suddenly, a double image appeared on the screen.

Shen Qiu was taken aback. Was he seeing things? He instinctively shook his head, but the text on the screen still appeared misaligned.

Shen Qiu seemed to realize something, and his pupils suddenly constricted. He turned to look around the bedroom.

The bed and other furniture in the bedroom were beginning to show signs of a double image.

“Damn it! It’s overlapping!”

Shen Qiu immediately got up and rushed to the head of the bed, grabbing the backpack he had prepared earlier with one hand, while using the other hand to seize the mechanical blade placed on the bedside table.

In an instant, Shen Qiu felt the surroundings shift and change dramatically.
