Night of the Apocalypse

Chapter 8 - Uncle

The so-called Tianji Club is the top-tier club within the Red Alliance. However, due to the dangerous projects it involves, it has faced heavy suppression and has become a clandestine entity within the Red Alliance, lacking widespread recognition.

Nonetheless, the Tianji Club is officially registered in the Blue Alliance, where it has a dedicated office building and a solid reputation.

The club has a large number of members and boasts seven top teams and five elite teams. The team led by Shen Qiu is one of these seven top teams.

Of course, most of the people who can join such a club are not your average individuals; their tempers are often very peculiar and dangerous.

As a result, Shen Qiu is not very familiar with the members of other teams; they generally maintain a “live and let live” approach.

The reason Shen Qiu has a low opinion of Huang Lang is that he is very cunning—basically, out of every ten people who interact with him, nine and a half end up getting taken advantage of.

Therefore, Shen Qiu really didn’t want to waste his energy pulling strings with him; if it weren’t for his wallet being nearly empty, he wouldn’t agree to meet that guy.

Thinking of this, Shen Qiu let out a long sigh and adjusted his mindset.

After a while, Shen Qiu picked up his phone to check the time; it was already 9:53.

He furrowed his brow, wondering what this guy was up to and why he hadn’t arrived yet.

At that moment, four girls in blue uniforms, full of youthful energy, walked by holding sundaes and milk tea, chatting and laughing together. The one in the lead had long hair tied in a ponytail, big eyes, and a high nose bridge, looking very lively.

She shouted to the boss lady, “Hey, do you have any seats left?”

The boss lady glanced at the outdoor tables and said regretfully, “Oh no, you girls arrived at the wrong time; there are no seats left.”

“Xiao Wu, there’s no space here. How about we go to another place?”

A girl wearing glasses, who appeared more reserved, said to the lively girl leading the group.

“But Zhao Ya, the food here is really good, and the prices are reasonable.”

Xiao Wu seemed somewhat reluctant to change.

“Xiao Wu! What are you doing here?”

The young man serving the dishes looked pleasantly surprised to see Xiao Wu and the others.

“Zhang Li, you’re working part-time here?”

Xiao Wu was also quite surprised to run into a classmate here.

“Yes! Are you all here to eat?”

Zhang Li’s cheerful demeanor suddenly seemed a bit awkward.

“Uh-huh, that’s right, but it seems there are no tables left.”

Xiao Wu said regretfully.

Zhang Li glanced at the outdoor tables and noticed that Shen Qiu’s table was quite empty, so she said to her, “That table over there is pretty empty. How about I go ask if we can share it?”

“We’ll go ask ourselves.”

Xiao Wu didn’t want to trouble Zhang Li.

So the four of them walked over to Shen Qiu, and then Zhao Ya politely spoke up.

“Uncle, can we share a table with you?”

Shen Qiu, who was lost in thought, was taken aback and looked up at Zhao Ya and the others, his lips twitching slightly.

Xiao Wu then smiled and said, “Zhao Ya, how can you talk like that? You should call him Big Brother!”

“Oh, oh! Sorry, Big Brother!”

Zhao Ya quickly corrected herself.

The two other maturely dressed girls beside her were almost bursting with laughter.

Looking at these youthful girls in front of him, Shen Qiu couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. He never expected he had gotten so old that he was already considered an “uncle,” so he said with a wry smile, “No problem.”

“Great! Thank you, Big Brother!”

Xiao Wu and the others happily sat down.

At this time, Zhang Li, being attentive, asked, “What would you like to eat? It’s my treat.”

“This isn’t appropriate. You only earn so little working part-time for a night; we can handle it ourselves, and you don’t need to be so polite.”

Xiao Wu smiled slightly and declined.

“It’s really okay.”

Zhang Li replied, his cheeks slightly flushed.

“No, really, just help me pick a few delicious dishes to serve.”

Xiao Wu responded cheerfully, cleverly taking care of Zhang Li’s feelings.

“Okay, I’ll go arrange it right now!”

Zhang Li quickly nodded and eagerly went to place the order.

Shen Qiu glanced over and immediately noticed that this guy named Zhang Li was a student working part-time and must have a crush on the girl named Xiao Wu.

As for the other girls, Shen Qiu observed them for a moment and could tell from their clothing that they came from well-off families.

At this moment, Xiao Wu took out the milk tea and sundae she brought, handing them to her friends, and didn’t forget to ask Shen Qiu.

“Big brother, would you like one?”

“No, thank you.”

Shen Qiu shook his head in response.

“Come on, big brother, there’s no need to be so serious; we’re not going to eat you.”

At this time, a girl sitting next to Zhao Ya, who had a more mature makeup look, said with a smile.

“Really, it’s fine. You all just enjoy your food.”

Shen Qiu picked up a boiled peanut and slowly started to shell it.

“Guan Min, I think big brother probably doesn’t like sweet things; let’s eat it ourselves!” Xiao Wu said with a smile to Guan Min.

“Alright then!”

Seeing Xiao Wu say that, Guan Min didn’t say much more and started to eat her sundae while chatting.

“I should finish my late-night snack soon, and Qi Dong should be here by then.”

“Yeah, it’s about time.”

“You’ve been getting pretty close to Qi Dong lately. Is there something going on between you two?”

“Not at all!”

Shen Qiu watched the four of them chatting and laughing while yawning. What kind of nonsense is this businessman up to today, moving so slowly?

“Oh no~”

At that moment, Zhao Ya accidentally flicked a large scoop of sundae onto the table.

“What a waste.”

Xiao Wu said regretfully.

“It won’t go to waste; just watch me!”

Guan Min said with a playful smile. She then stood up, bent down, and opened her mouth to extend her tongue, as agile as a snake, licking the sundae that had fallen on the table.

Shen Qiu watched this scene, his mouth twitching slightly. Are girls nowadays playing like this? He reached out and tapped the table, saying,

“Don’t you think it’s dirty? This table is practically covered in grease.”

“Pfft, pfft~”

Hearing Shen Qiu’s remark, Guan Min’s expression stiffened, and she quickly spat it out.

When she regained her composure, she said to Shen Qiu, “Big Brother, you did that on purpose, right? I only licked the sundae on the table; I didn’t lick the table itself.”

Shen Qiu smiled but didn’t say anything.

At that moment, Zhang Li came over with a plate of fish-flavored shredded pork and said, “The dishes are here. You guys start eating; the rest will be served soon.”

“Thanks!”

Xiao Wu and the others responded with smiles.

Just then, there was a loud rumble! Rumble! Rumble!

Accompanied by a sharp roaring sound, several black motorcycles zoomed in, accompanied by excited shouts!

At the front was a handsome young man with a side-swept fringe, dressed in a stylish black professional racing suit, with a black knight emblem on his shoulder. He braked sharply, stopping next to Shen Qiu’s stall.

His companions followed suit, coming to a sudden stop in a row beside him.

The leading young man revved the throttle while shouting at Xiao Wu, “Xiao Wu, we’re here!”

“Qi Dong, you guys arrived so quickly; we just ordered the dishes.”

Xiao Wu was a bit taken aback; this wasn’t the time they had agreed upon.

“Don’t eat! I’ll take you out for a ride! Enjoy the freedom of the open road.”

“That’s not really good; the food has just arrived.”

Xiao Wu and the others hesitated as they spoke.

At that moment, Zhang Li, who was walking over with a tray of dishes, saw Qi Dong and his group, and the smile on his face instantly froze. He wanted to say something, but the words stuck in his throat.

“What’s wrong with that! Let’s go! I’ll cover the cost for them.”

Qi Dong continued revving the throttle, speaking generously.

“Exactly, we have Qi Dong here.”

The other motorcycle youths echoed him, revving their engines in support.

The surrounding diners and stall owners were annoyed by the noise but didn’t want to stir up any trouble.

Seeing this scene, Shen Qiu turned his head and said, “Stop revving the engines; the noise is too loud.”

“What do you know? Riding a motorcycle is about enjoying freedom; a rebellious soul isn’t bound by anything! Without the sound of the engines, what does it mean to be a rider?”

Qi Dong said disdainfully.

“Hey, who told you that?”

Shen Qiu asked with interest.

“What do you mean who told me? This is the life motto of my idol, the Black Knight! You don’t know anything, old man!”

Qi Dong said proudly.

“I’ve never heard him say that!”

A strange look appeared in Shen Qiu’s eyes.

“Are you doubting that I’m making it up? I’m a hardcore fan of his! Do you see this Black Knight outfit I’m wearing? And look at the picture I have stuck on the bike!”

Qi Dong became annoyed, pointing at the photo stuck on the bike.

“Alright, I don’t care if you’re his fan. Let me tell you this: it’s fine to like motorcycles; that’s your freedom, and you can ride however you want. But there are residential buildings all around, and it’s already past ten at night. Many people are trying to sleep, so don’t disturb others.”

“Why should I listen to you?”

“Qi Dong, don’t say that; the big brother is pretty nice.”

Xiao Wu quickly persuaded.

“You don’t have to listen to me, but there are patrolling guards nearby, and they won’t go easy on you. If you don’t want to get caught, it’s best to turn off the revving! Otherwise, you’ll definitely get caught!”

Shen Qiu said calmly.
