Chapter 229: Return to Biron Monastery
The group quickly made haste to return to Biron.
Along the way, Dyne began to discuss with Gala and Vahn the new mysteries of their battle but reserved the complete story when everyone else was present to listen to the new arrangements.
The first thing that Dyne made the group do as they were traveling towards Biron was to give the first feedback on the experience of the battle and how they could work as a team.
“The Guard Scorpions were too much for Serge and Noa. I had to go out of my way to save them on several occasions, and the only reason they lasted so long was because of the chocobos they rode. It was very dangerous after the chocobos got injured, and they would have died if not for the arrival of Brod and Bertugo.” Arya gave her assessment. She was trained since her youth in combat since her father was a respected blacksmith, and her insights into how teams fight were the best at the moment.
“Enemy too tough. Cannot wound or hurt even with Spirit.” Bertugo gave a simple analysis.
“Brod. Too weak.” Brod gave an even harsher analysis as he was angry at the result of the battle. It was the first time he could show his loyalty and gratefulness to Dyne once more, and he wasn't strong enough.
“Don’t be too hard on yourselves. With everyone being alive, the result is much better than I anticipated. This little peer review is just for us to see where we could improve for our next battle.”
“I had a good weapon. But I need to improve on how to use my magic.” Serge was the first to answer.
“I was able to use the light to empower and rob the life force from the enemy. That’s what the Veras do, right? But I could not contain that power well. If I could have enough strength and concentration, then I think I could have done more damage to that Seru.”
“You also need speed and velocity to do Dash and Slash.” Dyne nodded.
“Wait… How did you know I was thinking of that attack? And the name! How did you know about the name?” Serge was amazed. This was the name of the attack that he was envisioning.
“Erm… Right. I saw your attacks and knew you were trying something like that. As for the name, I didn’t know that was the name. I just said what the attack looked like. You were dashing around at first and doing a slash.” Dyne defended. He couldn’t tell Serge that even his thoughts were still following the attack names in Chrono Cross. Recalling how Jedo had to go through the depression, Dyne decided to avoid giving them such an existential crisis considering these people were young.
“I think I got the hang of fighting. I still need to focus on how to move Spirit, though.” Noa thought for a bit.
“You were too rash, Noa.” Serge sighed.
“Most of my attacks would have landed if you learned how to adjust.”
“Serge is right, Noa,” Terra explained.
Soon, the group began to discuss the strategies and schemes for the future battle. Even Vahn was happily joining in as he asked Calamity to bring him closer to the running chocobos.
“Gala. You want to know about Songi.” Dyne smiled.
Gala rode a separate Slime and moved towards Dyne.
“Yes, Patriarch. I feel responsible for what happened.”
“Don’t be. This was expected. The Darkness of Songi was too deep. And as I said earlier, he had a small army of Serus who were planning on attacking Biron. I can’t imagine how many would have died with such Serus. So even I need to reassess how to defend against the Serus hordes. If we plan to attack the Mist Generator of Zeto, we should expect to face an army of those Serus…” Dyne explained.
“Please instruct me on what to do, Patriarch.”
“Rely on others. Although you think you are solely responsible for bringing Songi back to the light, you are wrong. In fact, you are the least likely person to do so. Songi is greedy. That is what those that are of Time/Space elements are. He finds a Ra-Seru who is as greedy as he is, and they will both stop at nothing to acquire the power and honor they want. Right now, Songi sees you as someone he needs to kill since you took everything from him.” Dyne explained.
“H-how? Is it because of the Legacy Disciple position?”
“Yes. Songi is a very vain man. He blames you and me for everything.”
“Then what can we do, Patriarch? I still want to save him!”
“Well… Based on experience, the best way for Songi to come back to us is to find something that he would be more greedy for. Take Jedo, for example. He is of Time/Space and has unbelievable greed. But right now, he’s preoccupied with his greed as he wants to bring back someone from the dead. Hence his willing service to me.” Dyne smiled as he pointed to Jedo.
“Is it true, Jedo?” Gala was surprised.
“Erm… Not anymore. It started out like that. But aside from me sticking with him to save Yami and serve Tieg, you’ve seen how disgustingly strong your Patriarch is. I don’t want to be his enemy. If you could make Songi see this, he should fold.”
“Hmm… He had first-hand experience of it…”
“No… Dyne was playing around. He was so obsessed with playing games!”
“Playing games?”
“What Jedo is trying to say is that I didn’t bring out everything in my arsenal; otherwise, it would have killed Songi. But anyway, I think there is a way to save Songi. We will need the help of the Chrono Trigger, though.”
“The Chrono Trigger?”
“Serge. In this world, Songi’s parents and loved ones are dead. But Tieg created this world as a mirror to the world where Serge is. That's why when I spoke of his name to the Hunters, they all started to recognize Serge. It's complicated magic, but this world and that alternate world are connected and affect each other. We find Songi’s parents. We could find a shot in changing his heart.” Dyne explained.
“I see. Then I shall wait for Patriarch’s plans.”
Soon, Biron Monastery appeared, and the group arrived and settled in.
A great banquet was prepared for the return of Dyne.
Dyne wanted to go ahead and plan, but seeing the excited and thankful expressions, Dyne decided to relent and only told the elders and the leaders to stay sober after the party for the plans.
The grand party was held, and everyone rejoiced at the addition of another Ra-Seru hero, Noa.
Noa told of what they did in the mines of Chorak and how they fought against Songi. Everyone cheered and was amazed at the breathtaking tale of Noa. Only Zepo and Tetsu were silent as they heard the story and hid their heartbroken expressions of Songi’s treachery.
But no one took notice of their silence as there were too many distractions.
The presence of a massive Zenoir, who was an ally, also brought great cheers. Many of the younger folks were amazed at the Chocobos, and the kids simply adored Nanaki.
The piuras and chocobos joined the group and joined the party. At first, they were awkward, but soon, the Gobu-Gobus began to accompany them in the cheers until soon, both human, Gobu-Gobu, and bird creatures were enjoying the party as one.
Rena was very happy at what she saw. She was amazed that Dyne could gather all these races and creatures and unify them like this.
“Merkley has hope.” She smiled. She then turned to the other side of the party, where confused expressions were made.
There were some among the settlers of Biron who suddenly recalled the family of Serge, and even Juno recognized him.
Serge’s identity was revealed as the confused and conflicting memories of the group were brought to the open.
Rena shook her head. She had already given up on the mystery of this world and Serge’s strange identity. She turned around and noticed that Arya was being worshiped by many monks.
Her power and strength shocked everyone, and almost all the strongest Monks and Hunters were chatting about her offering to help Arya train in the ways of Spirit cultivation. Some of the younger hunters were even flirting with her.
“So… won’t you let me train you?” One of the Hunters winked.
“I am training with my fiance, Dyne. So I’ll have to pass up on that.” Finally, earth Arya couldn’t help it and dropped the bomb with her declaration.
Dyne heard it and blushed.
Almost instantly, everyone retreated and gave excuses to Arya as they could see Dyne's reaction proved that Arya was telling the truth.
Rena chuckled as she saw the scene. But soon, she sighed and gave a glance at Dyne.
"Maybe I should start fighting to have him too..." Rena smiled.
The party carried on until early morning, and soon, the leaders who had their fill of food began to meet with Dyne.
“Alright, everyone. I need a team who will journey with me north to Jeremy and get the Ra-Seru Egg Mule. Then, we have to go further north and steal the key from the king of Ratayu, Van Saryu. After that, we head over to Mount Letona and grab a special Ra-Seru."
"A special Ra-Seru?"
"Yes. It's a Ra-Seru that used to be human. The Ra-Seru Lord Biron.” Dyne immediately listed the mission he needed a team to accomplish.
The expressions of all the monks listening changed.
“Lord Biron?!”
