Chapter 248: The Monster Horde
The town of Jeremi was the first town that the player could go to in Legend of Legaia.
It boasted a beautiful Sky Garden where the Genesis Tree stood at the top.
The tower was so high that it was even higher than the mountains surrounding the city, making it a natural fortress with only one entry point.
Dyne had brought his team.
From Legaia, he brought the Ra-Seru heroes, Vahn, Noa, and Gala. Each was riding their Chocobo of choice. With them were the two strongest Gomboo of the village. Bertugo and Brod. They were riding the two slimes that Dyne first caught. Calamity and Catastrophe.
Tetsu of Biron Monastery was seated with Bertugo. And the trio Hunters, Ipkus, Rei, and Esto had their own slimes, which were just as fast as the two slimes of Dyne.
Team Diablo had Jaden, Chad, Amorien, and Ishreth divided among the three hunters' Slimes.
The other characters that joined in this mission represented other games. Arya of Tenchu: Stealth Assassins on her own Chocobo, Rena of Star Ocean 2 also on a Chocobo, Emera, Dyne’s first Einherjar in Valkyrie Profile who was now Shiva flying through the air, Serge of Chrono Cross riding another Chocobo, and Chrone who had the power to transform to the monstrous Ape similar to Son Goku of Saiyuki: Journey West. Chrone was riding the Zenoir that Dyne captured.
Agumon was also riding on the Zenoir, and Ururun and Gyoro, the twin serpent, were positioned right on Serge.
Grim was now back at the hands of Dyne, who also had his Wild Arm.
The rest had powerful weapons, and many of them were magical artifacts that Dyne had acquired.
Dyne continued to scan through his books and had even given these books out for the team to read.
The trip was rather quiet as they sped through the land. A thick mist could be seen ahead.
But what an interesting was that the land had a terrifyingly thick amount of death.
Blood could be sensed all over, and many mounds of monster corpses could be seen.
“A battle seemed to have gone here. It seems that the monster kings still have an ongoing campaign. It fits with the timeline and timing of the game. And it seems that to stop us, Fate will probably send a lot of enemies to us.” Dyne smiled.
“I wonder just what sidequests you’ve prepared in this region? I’m sure they are bound to attack me now.” Dyne chuckled.
“Master Dyne!” Ipkus called out. He was riding the slime and was riding his slime from the south.
“Ipkus?”
“We sense movement,” Ipkus reported.
“Yes, Master Dyne. It’s a sound from all sides! We’re surrounded! The one on the west echoes the sounds of hops and jumps.” Esto reported. He was the one who marched ahead and watched the West.
“The one on the north sounds like stomps. I’m guessing something huge and heavy is moving there.” Rei reported.”
“And there seemed to be the sound of a stampede to the south,” Ipkus reported.
Dyne was amazed at how Ipkus and the hunters were able to hear them all.
“Amorien?”
“I can’t see anything through the Mist. Even with my eyes, Master Dyne. But these folks have a better scouting ability than me.” Amorien admitted.
“What dangers lurk in these lands?” Gala wondered. He had accompanied Dyne and had already experienced the battle against Fate. He spoke of it and the mysteries of the numerous changes that directed the lives of all creatures. He knew that what they were doing was far more terrifying than the previous mission he had.
“Everyone, relax. Gather around.” Dyne called for a meeting as they gathered together.
“I know what our enemies are. To the west, we are headed to a herd of Kabuki Rats. They are large monstrous rats that are quick and have harnessed the power of the Evil God.”
“They will be great sacrifices to me... I experimented on them to make them something similar to a Seru. They have a green gem on their forehead, which increases the strength and speed of these monsters. However, it's not like a human who has a Seru. It's pretty close. But now, in this Mist, they should be controlled by Cort.” The Evil God spoke.
“Oh? Will killing them and absorbing them help you?"
"Of course. The more, the better. It can help me craft an even better source that will allow you to create more Digi-eggs."
"Where would they keep the Evil God Totem?”
“These creatures don’t have intellect like the Gobu-Gobu. Their leader will have the totem with him. And if there are more totems, we awaken a Genesis Tree. Then I can be reformed into the egg like that Agumon. Only my form will be stronger and more powerful.” The Evil God Totem boasted.
“One step at a time, Digimon 1. But I guess the powers of Digimon 3 can also access more evolution.” Dyne turned to Agumon.
“Alright. Jaden and the Diablo team. Deal with these creatures and bring Agumon and this Totem. Your biggest problem will be their numbers. These things are small and fast and have the power to steal your items through some space magic. You guys have the strongest firepower and have to kill them before they activate this.” Dyne ordered.
“Understood, Lord Dyne.”
“At the north are Ogres. They are the only massive and strong creatures who move with their arms and legs like a monkey and use their arms and legs as they walk. These are creatures that should have the power of the Warrior God. They could be the key to helping my slimes evolve into Oak Slimes. But these creatures are slow. We can do ranged combat with a mobile and fast team that will constantly harass them. Arya, Hunters, Serge, Bertugo, and Brod, you go harass them.”
“Understood.” Serge nodded.
Arya also made readied her bow.
“Finally, the stampede on the south could only be the Hell’s Trigger—a stronger version of the Wild Ostrich. Chrone, use your monkey form to draw their attention. Since you have spirit, Tetsu can also use your ability to take more of their attacks. Shiva, you are to help them. Me, Rena, and the Ra-Seru heroes will be a support team that will move along the battlefield and attack and helps whoever we can. Our problem out here is endurance, stamina, and our mana pool. We can’t waste our energy. So we fight and keep moving. Jaden, you are to clear the way as we still need to move west. We still have a long way to go. Fate is bringing an army of monsters to us, and we will even face greater troubles in Jeremi. So let’s all plan this out.” Dyne ordered.
“Yes, Master Dyne!”
“Now, to help you...” Dyne raised his Ra-Seru-wielding arm.
He summoned the power of two spells which were now in a spell slot.
“Diggin’! WoW!” Dyne shouted, and the two buff spells in Grandia empowered the team with offense and defense.
“This power...!” Jaden was amazed.
“Go. The battle begins now!” Dyne warned.
Jaden and the Diablo team rushed ahead, and the rest also followed the positions where Dyne placed them.
“I guess it’s time to play Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, or Tactics Ogre in this world...” Dyne gazed around as he knew he would be fighting tactics-style combat.
The three hordes of beasts appeared from afar, just as Dyne said they would.
On the north were the massive red ogres that charged ahead. They moved like monkeys running with their two arms slapping the ground and throwing their body forward before stomping and jumping with their feet. Among the group were some green ogres who were the evolved form of these beasts.
“Mad ogres, huh? Be careful of those green ones!” Dyne warned the team and turned to the west.
On the west was a horde of small Kabuki Rats. They were as large as a child and had a green gem similar to Serus on their foreheads. Some of the rats had blue gems on their heads.
“Be careful with the Blue ones! They are dangerous!” Dyne called out to the Diablo team and turned to the south.
On the south was a flock of ostriches that had a coat of grey compared to the regular white-feathered ostriches in the Drake Kingdom. They had a massive group, but luckily, Dyne could not spot the next level of these beasts.
“Good. Death Trigger is a late-game enemy. It seems Fate isn’t so cruel.” Dyne chuckled.
Everyone had a serious expression. But to Dyne, it was all a game.
“Let’s start!” Dyne smiled as the army of monsters approached.
