Now That I Have Become a Woman, I Am a Vtuber

Chapter 5

I can’t help but think that Kim Soo-hyun is really beautiful for a girl. Among girls around 170cm, she has a relatively tall height, a face as small as a celebrity’s, and her features are so distinct… To the point where I can’t recall seeing anyone more beautiful than her on my way to submit my school dropout application near the Vocal Academy.

One uncomfortable thing might be that people around me are staring? I didn’t notice when I was a guy, but now that I’m a girl, I can feel it instinctively.

I can sense all the glances darting my way. The girls I looked at back when I was a guy must have felt this way too, right? Am I now getting a taste of that punishment?

Even the guy ahead is sneaking glances at me while looking at his phone. He’s pretty tall and undeniably good-looking, dressed as if he puts effort into his fashion—it’s like he’s saying, “Take notice of my style.” It’s a strange feeling to have someone like him gawk at me.

Moreover, he adjusts his collar and checks his hairstyle with his phone screen. Uh oh… why is he coming this way?

“Excuse me. Can I get your number…?”

As I expected, my ominous premonition came true.

“Oh, I lost my phone.”

“Then what about Instagram…?”

“I don’t use Instagram.”

“Do you use KakaoTalk…?”

“I just exchange letters.”

“Then how about your address…?”

“Excuse me?”

What’s with this guy? At this point, you’d think he’d give up, but he’s persistent.

“Haha… I understand if you’re feeling pressured. But, really, it’s love at first sight…”

I stared deeply into the guy’s eyes. Just look at that confident gaze. He’s probably never been rejected when asking for a number.

Well, I should give him an experience, just once. That’s the role of a seasoned adult.

“You’re not my type.”

With my single statement, the guy’s expression froze.

Well, he’s definitely a handsome guy that anyone would find appealing, but he’s just that—hmmm, no heart-fluttering sensation here.

“Haha… This is my first time being rejected.”

“Seems like it. Well then.”

The guy didn’t chase after me, looking shocked.

“Hah…”

I sighed as I walked out of the station, leaving him behind. That’s the fifth time today.

I didn’t even dress up for today; I mean, I followed Kim Soo-hyun’s memory for makeup, but my outfit was similar to what I wore as a guy.

Just some black pants and a patterned oversized black sweatshirt, topped off with a hat—something you’d see on the street occasionally.

Yet, guys still hit on me… What kind of life has Kim Soo-hyun been living?

Perhaps that’s why I’ve become hesitant about going out… No, that’s not it. Kim Soo-hyun has always been a well-off girl since elementary school.

“Is this the place?”

The Vocal Academy proudly stood just a short walk from the station. It was 3 PM.

After consulting, meeting with Hyejeong, and spending some time at the café, I was supposed to head to the barbecue place as planned.

“Welcome!”

Upon reaching the second floor where the academy was, I was greeted by a young receptionist standing at the visible counter.

“Hello.”

As I walked over to greet her, the receptionist glanced at me, then focused on the monitor.

“May I ask your name?”

“I’m Kim Soo-hyun.”

“Oh! I see~ Wow, you’re so beautiful! I thought you were here from an agency!”

“Haha…”

Being praised so directly feels oddly strange.

“Shall we go in? The director is waiting for you.”

“Yes.”

Following the receptionist toward the director’s office, I noticed various photos and signatures displayed on the walls. Among them were pictures of singers and idols that I recognized, which surprised me quite a bit.

The reviews were good, but was it this impressive?

As I followed the receptionist inside, we arrived at the director’s office.

“Please enter here.”

The room I stepped into was just like a typical academy director’s office. Various awards and photos adorned the walls, and in the center stood a consultation table with sofas on either side.

And the director… was younger than I expected.

He looked to be in his late 30s to early 40s, resembling a well-aged male actor, sitting comfortably on one of the sofas.

“So, you are Soo-hyun? Nice to meet you.”

I shook his hand as he stood up, then sat down across from him as guided.

“Hmm… There are two types of singing lessons.”

The director got straight to the point and pulled out a pamphlet to hand it to me.

“First, we have an advanced class for those who want to seriously pursue this path, followed by a hobby class for general individuals. Which one would you like to join?”

“Uh… um…”

‘What should I say?’

Just a hobby? But if I pass the audition, I’d become a pro…

Should I start with the hobby class and then go to advanced later? But that feels pointless.

This academy is founded on the premise that everyone is auditioning; would there be any point to hobby class?

“I’d like the advanced class, please.”

“Understood… What kind of singing do you wish to learn?”

Direction??

Uh, since I’m a VTuber…

“Um…”

“Um…?”

“Japanese? Singing a bit…”

“…Ah, you mean J-Pop.”

For a moment, a chilly silence filled the room, but the director, being professional, nodded right away and pointed to the pamphlet.

“Here, we also teach J-Pop well. Among our hobby class attendees, there are sometimes those who wish for that style.”

“I see…”

“Yes, shall we move to the recording studio and have you sing a bit? We need to know how you sing to tailor your training.”

“Ah, yes, understood.”

“Follow me.”

I followed the director out of the office and into the recording studio right next door. Just as I was fascinated by the studio that looked like something you’d see on a variety show, the director pointed toward the soundproof booth inside.

“Please go in, and do you have a song prepared?”

“Uh, not really…”

“Then just sing an adventurous song. Preferably J-Pop.”

“Excuse me? A Japanese song?”

“We need to hear your approach to that style.”

“Ah…”

Right… but a Japanese song? The only one I can properly sing is that otaku song I used for my audition.

I hesitated briefly, considering whether to name the title, but quickly steadied myself.

Being a VTuber was a decision I made myself, and singing Japanese songs is what that VTuber usually sings.

To shy away from mentioning it is akin to saying I’m not fit to be a VTuber.

“Uh… the title is…”

“The title is…?”

“Fuh… Fuhafuhafuwa Love…”

“Ah… Ah… Let me look for it…”

But seeing the director’s stiff expression made me want to wash my face.

However, if I get embarrassed here, I’ll truly seem like some strange person. If I stand confidently, the attitudes of those around me will change too.

Standing tall, I waited for the MR to start.

“Ah, found it. Let’s go.”

After that, I sang along to the MR that started playing. It was my first time really getting into position for a recording in this space, but since I had already put myself into a confident mindset, I felt like my voice was resonating even better than usual.

“Mm…”

When the song finished, the director listened intently to the recording of my song.

It felt a bit embarrassing… but with him listening so seriously, I thought about the lyrics… no, no, I shouldn’t be embarrassed at all.

Being embarrassed about the song lyrics would be disrespectful to the lyricist who wrote them, wouldn’t it?

As I stood there as composed as possible, time flew by, and the director nodded seriously after listening to the recording.

“Wow~ It sounds great. Your voice is already good, so you just need to polish your vocal techniques a bit, no?”

Fortunately, his compliments brought a bright expression to my face.

“Oh, really? My singing is good, right?”

“Yes, among regular individuals, you sing quite well.”

See? My singing is just fine! I wish I could record what the director said and play it back together with those comments I read in the community.

“Well then, will you register?” “Yes, I’ll do it right away.”

Thus, I successfully completed my enrollment at the academy and stepped outside.

“Hey~ Are you attending here now?”

As I left the Vocal Academy, Hyejeong waved at me while approaching.

“When did you arrive?”

“Just now, you told me to come this way. But are you really attending this academy now?”

“So it appears, starting next week?”

“Wow… you’re serious, aren’t you?”

“I am serious. I submitted my dropout application today.”

“You went that far? What if it doesn’t work out?”

“Retake? I’ll go to S University’s engineering department.”

Although I said it jokingly, I absolutely don’t want to retake. With my height and proportion, should I try my hand at being a fashion model instead?

Well, I’m only 21, so if things don’t work out, I can find something else.

I don’t have to go to the military, right?

It’s like having two extra years compared to male Kim Soo-hyun.

Thinking that I don’t have to serve in the military made me feel cheerful, and as I smiled, Hyejeong, walking beside me, frowned and looked at me.

“What’s up?”

“Just the thought of you joking about S University and smiling makes me want to hit you.”

“You wouldn’t understand, would you?”

“What do you mean?”

“Never mind, where’s the café at?”

“Oh, there’s an Instagrammable café around here.”

“I don’t use Instagram, though…?”

“But I do!”

“Fine… suit yourself.”

“Hurry up and come.”

Following Hyejeong to the Instagram café turned out to be better than I expected.

My image of an Instagram café involved low tables that were uncomfortable compared to the chairs, expensive prices, and bizarre décor, but this place had reasonable prices and ordinary tables. The only difference was that the interior exuded a slightly dreamy, forest-like atmosphere, and seeing how well it was decorated, I couldn’t help but acknowledge it.

“This café is pretty.”

“Right? It’s famous.”

As Hyejeong had said, most of the seats were occupied, and she and I happened to sit at the only remaining spot, ordering drinks and chatting away.

“So, my younger brother… Yoonjae…”

“Really? But…”

Hyejeong mainly talked about herself while I reacted, and time passed surprisingly quickly.

“By the way, did you hear?”

“What?”

“It was supposed to be ten people for this drinking party, but it became twenty?”

“Why… oh, I get it…”

I questioned for a moment before realizing. If a girl who looks like Kim Soo-hyun was coming to the drinking party, I would go too.

“Isn’t it a bit stupid to understand right away?”

“Well, I’m not your average-looking person.”

“Wow! Seriously! Are you out of your mind?”

I shrugged at Hyejeong’s incredulous reaction and playfully shrugged my shoulders, but I got hit for it.

“Anyway, we should get moving.”

“Where’s the shop again?”

“Right next door.”

I followed Hyejeong as we both stood up.

Friends from school…

Kim Soo-hyun as a girl and Kim Soo-hyun as a boy both attended the same school for elementary, middle, and high school.

That means among the people coming out, there are those who were originally friends with boy Kim Soo-hyun.

I briefly pondered how to approach them but soon relaxed my mind.

‘Is there really friendship between boys and girls?’

Inwardly, I sought the understanding of my friends.

“Sorry, but I’m cutting ties with you all.”

From now on, my friends will only be cute girls who smell like flowers, not smelly boys with hairy legs.

“Good luck, enjoy your service.”

I stepped outside feeling refreshed.
