Chapter 106: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 107)
The silence in the cavern was deafening. The wraiths had vanished, and the Heart of the Forgotten Isle was no longer glowing with the intense, menacing energy it had before. The tremors beneath the crew's feet had ceased, and for a brief moment, it seemed like the island had finally settled into a peaceful slumber.
But Robin's sharp eyes scanned the environment warily. Something still felt off.
"We've broken the wraiths' hold over the island, but the Heart isn't fully stable," Robin said, her voice tinged with caution. "It's as though the island itself is still trying to resist us."
Luffy, ever optimistic, scratched the back of his head. "So, it's not over yet, huh? Well, no big deal! We've come this far, we'll figure it out!"
Franky wiped the sweat from his brow. "Yeah, but whatever happens next, we better be ready. This island's like one big time bomb!"
Just as he spoke, the ground beneath them trembled once more. This time, the pulse was less erratic, but it was deep and resonating—almost as if the island were awakening. A low hum echoed in the cavern, but this time, it wasn't from the wraiths. It felt... familiar, like a heartbeat.
"Something's coming," Zoro said, his eyes narrowing as he stood ready. "You feel it too, right?"
"Yeah," Sanji muttered, his hand resting on his leg as he prepared to spring into action. "But what could it be now?"
Before anyone could respond, the ground cracked open once more—this time, directly in front of them. A beam of light shot up from the crack, illuminating the cavern in an eerie glow. The crew instinctively took a step back as the beam shot higher, splitting the ceiling open in a dramatic display of power.
From the light emerged a figure, hovering in the air, its body encased in radiant energy. It was humanoid in shape but with features that seemed distorted—its face was obscured by a mask, and its body seemed to flicker in and out of visibility. A figure made of light and time.
"Another one?" Luffy shouted, cracking his knuckles. "You're not stopping us, whoever you are!"
The figure slowly descended from the light, its glowing form slowly solidifying into a more recognizable shape. It was tall and regal, with flowing robes made of light itself. The mask it wore was etched with cryptic symbols, glowing faintly as it turned its head to observe the crew.
"You have broken the wraiths' hold, but you are still too late," the figure spoke, its voice echoing unnaturally, as if it came from all directions at once. "This island is not simply a place, nor a mere object of power. It is a guardian, a vessel for something far older than time itself. And now, you have awakened it."
The crew stood in stunned silence as the figure's words sank in. The very fabric of the island seemed to shudder at the revelation. The beams of light from the fissures began to grow brighter, converging around the figure, as if the island itself was responding to its presence.
"You've set something in motion," the figure continued, its voice now tinged with a sense of finality. "The Heart was meant to be forgotten. It was never meant to be disturbed. But now that you've meddled with its power, the cycle must be completed."
"Cycle?" Robin stepped forward, her brow furrowed. "What cycle are you talking about?"
The figure raised a hand, and the ground began to tremble again. This time, it wasn't an earthquake—it was a force that seemed to echo through the very air, causing time itself to distort. Images of the past, present, and future flashed across the walls of the cavern, like a shattered mirror reflecting fractured moments.
"The cycle of rebirth," the figure intoned. "The Heart was born of forgotten moments, a memory of the world that once was. But it was never meant to last. It was always meant to return to the void, to erase itself from existence. And you, mortals, have disrupted that flow."
Luffy clenched his fists. "So what, we're supposed to let it all get erased again? Not happening! I'm not just gonna stand here and let this island do whatever it wants!"
The figure's glowing eyes seemed to flicker in amusement. "You think you can stop the inevitable? You, who are but fragments of a fleeting moment in the flow of time? The Heart cannot be controlled. It is the culmination of all that has passed—and now, it seeks to return."
With that, the figure raised its other hand, and the beams of light shot out in every direction, causing the cavern to warp and twist once more. The air grew thick, and the pulse of the Heart began to resonate violently. The walls of the cavern buckled, and time itself seemed to unravel.
"We have to stop this!" Nami shouted, her voice nearly drowned out by the increasing distortion. "If we don't, the whole island—and everything connected to it—will be erased!"
"We need to find a way to reverse what we've done!" Robin said urgently, her mind racing as she analyzed the situation. "The island's heart is tied to the memory of a world lost to time. We've disrupted its natural state, but there must be a way to restore balance!"
"We'll figure it out as we go!" Luffy called, his grin never faltering despite the chaos. "Let's go, everyone!"
Suddenly, the figure's mask began to crack, revealing a faint, glowing symbol beneath. It pulsed with energy—somehow familiar yet foreign, an ancient mark that seemed to hold the essence of the island within it. As the figure's form began to disintegrate, the symbol blazed brightly, signaling the culmination of the cycle it had spoken of.
But just before the figure vanished completely, it left one final, cryptic message.
"The cycle of the Heart cannot be undone… unless the true keeper of time steps forth."
With those words, the figure dissolved into the light, leaving behind only the glowing symbol, which began to pulse rapidly, as if calling out to something beyond the island.
The cavern was now silent once more, but the oppressive energy lingered in the air. The island, it seemed, was still not at rest.
Luffy's expression hardened. "Keeper of time? What does that even mean?"
"Whoever it is, we'll find them," Zoro said with conviction. "We're not giving up now."
"We'll get to the bottom of this," Robin added. "There's more to this island than we've been told."
The crew turned to the symbol, their next goal clear: to uncover the mystery of the Heart's true nature, and to stop the cycle from erasing everything they had fought for.
But time was running out.
To be continued…
