One Piece: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 13: The Plan?

Once Viktor and Raven met up with Professor Jones, Viktor immediately played the conversation he overheard between the matron and her boss. One of Viktors newest devil fruit abilities, which he called recording, allowed him to show any data he receives to others.

In this case, it was a conversation, but it applies visually as well. Viktor can now put up a screen and showcase what he's seen like a video recorder.

After Professor Jones heard the entire message, he noticed Viktors smug grin, " Ok, ok, you were right. Do you really have to be so smug about it? "

Viktor grew even more smug," Of course, how else will it be forever etched into that thick skull of yours of my superiority in this moment? By the way, using my recording ability, I'm able to remind you of this whenever I want. Mwa ha ha ha. "

Viktor may have won this round, but Professor Jones wasn't finished, " Yeah, yeah, whatever. Now, onto the matter at hand. What are we gonna do about this? Does your superior brain have the perfect solution for this?"

Viktors smug grin disappeared, and he said solemnly. " To be honest, we're in a tough situation. Even if we take her out, she'd be replaced and they'd spend more resources on the matter. "

" First, we need to convince her that you were simply a victim of circumstance and have no connection to the Roger pirates. Then we need to take her out without causing her boss to be suspicious. She wants to sell me and Raven into slavery. I won't allow this to happen!"

" OK, so how do you propose we do this? "

" Well, first of all, I want you to get drunk at a bar later tonight and tell everyone there a story of how you got caught by the Roger pirates. "

" And what story am I supposed to spin exactly? "

" Except the fact that you knew the Roger pirates beforehand and they came for your advice, tell everyone the truth. After all, the best lies always contain a grain of truth. "

" OK, I guess? Could you give me some more details so I don't say something I shouldn't?"

"Sure, I can do that. First, tell them how we spotted the Roger pirates and then confronted them. At first, we thought they were going to kill us, but it turns out they were there to rest and party. Caught up in the atmosphere, we partied along with them. It wasn't until the navy showed up that the Roger pirates used us as hostages. Although, it was more just an excuse to try and get us away from the fighting and not end up as collateral damage."

Professor Jones was still pretty skeptical about Viktor's plan," Alright. But will they really be convinced that the Roger pirates happened to want to party, and they happened to do it at O'Hara? I mean that's an awful lot of coincidences."

Unfortunately, Viktor agreed with his assessment of the plan, " Hopefully?"

Both Raven and Professor Jones looked at him incredulously, and Viktor got offended, "Hey, I'm just working with what I've got here. None of us are professional liars, to say the least. Best to stick as close to the truth as possible. But, just in case that fails, we got to be ready to fight and then go on the run."

Raven obviously wasn't convinced, " You mean when it fails, right? A lot would have to go right for Professor Jones to fool a professional spy."

" Hey, Crocus can do it. Probably, maybe. OK, it's a long shot, but hey, miracles happen. "

Professor Jones interjected, " Hey, have some faith in me. You should know, I could've been an actor back in the day. I just found my true calling in history. "

Viktor said skeptically, " Sureeee, you tell yourself whatever you want if you think it'll help. Now, even if this does work, we still need to deal with her afterwards. You got any weapons for me?"

Unfortunately, all Professor Jones managed to get was a couple of pistols. Turns out he really didn't have any underworld contacts and it's not easy to lawfully get any good weapons in this day and age.

Viktor was hoping that since Professor Jones big shots like Roger and Garp, he'd have some friends that could help. It seems that Professor Jones wasn't just being humble when he said he didn't have any underworld contacts.

This also meant that Viktor's fantasy wouldn't become reality, " Seriously?! So, you don't secretly know several people with specialized skill sets that we can gather together to pull this job."

Raven asked, " Uh Viktor, what are you talking about? "

Professor Jones added, " Yeah, what are you talking about?"

" You know in heist stories how they always gather people with diverse skills in order to pull jobs. I was thinking you might know some people that could help us pull this off. That would be awesome!"

" Yeah, that would be a big no. Seriously, you want to form a heist team?"

" Hey, a guy can dream!"

Raven then said, " Leaving Viktor's delusions aside. "

In the background, Viktor disagreed with this assessment. " Aren't we overlooking something obvious? I mean the Roger pirates once destroyed a country because one of their crew got insulted. If the world government thinks your connected to them, would they really risk their ire?"

Viktor said, " Well, her orders were pretty clear. Any means necessary. "

Professor Jones added, " The world government has always been very strict about research into the void century. They may think it's better to fight with the Roger pirates than let them research it. "

Viktor asked, " So what's the void century?"

" It's probably better you guys don't know for your own safety. Although, to be frank, while we at O'Hara have been researching it,we haven't made a lot of progress. "

Viktor said," Enough said. We're well aware that some information can only be known to those strong enough and we're nowhere that level. To be honest, the same can be said for O'Hara."

While Professor Jones agreed with Viktor's assessment, he and the rest of O'Hara still won't stop, "History is a part of our culture. To be denied it is sacrilegious. Only by knowing our history can we know our future. We are willing to give our very lives for this mission!"

Raven said, " OK. I mean knowledge is power, but it's not worth my life. Anyway can we get back on topic?"

" Yeah, show me those pistols you got. Hopefully, these pistols of yours actually work. "

" Hey, are you insinuating that they don't work? Have some faith in me. "

" Have you actually tried them to see if they work? "

" Uh..."

Viktor put his hand on his head in exasperation," Let me get this straight, you purchased guns, but didn't check if they work before buying them? Sigh, did you at least get some ammo for the guns?"

Professor Jones was offended by Viktor's absurd accusation," Who do you take me for? Of course I got some ammo. A full 200 rounds."

Viktor was happy because that was more than enough for their purposes. If they needed more, a couple of pistols wouldn't be enough.

Viktor then slapped Professor Jones on the back to congratulate him, " See, if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. Put that zeal into your acting and we just might pull this off. Now let's test out these bad boys."

The trio then went into the woods to test the pistols. Viktor tried each pistol and they both worked without a hitch, each of them hitting their mark.

Viktor then asked, " What's the range of these pistols? I'm guessing about 50 meters. "

" Yep, I was told 50 meters. "

" That's a bit on the short side, but I'll manage. Alright, it's best we take care of this as soon as possible, so we'll put the plan into action tonight."

Raven and Professor Jones nodded with serious expressions on their faces.
