One Piece: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 2: The Data Data fruit

The Year 1490, O'Hara, West Blue

On the streets of O'Hara, there was a strange boy named Viktor. His parents were archeologists and in pursuit of their research, they left their baby son to set out to sea, but were killed by pirates. So ever since he was a baby, Viktor stayed at an orphanage and had no memories of his late parents.

Ever since he was born, Viktor had a very special ability. He was able to sense people's intent. He could tell whether someone had malicious or pure intentions towards him. Of course, this power had many restrictions.

First of all, he could only tell someone's intentions towards himself, not others. Also, his sensing range only extends up to 5 meters away. This range varies depending on how intense someone's feelings are towards him, with the range increasing the more intense their feelings are.

Most importantly, his power only works if he maintains eye contact with his target as eyes are the windows to the soul.

In other words, Viktor only partially unlocked observation haki. He can't predict anyone's movements and can only activate it when someone's within eyesight. However, this doesn't mean his ability isn't helpful.

Viktor has depended on this ability to predict beforehand potential enemies and avoid them. For example, due to his advanced intellect for his age, many kids were jealous of him and wished to bully him, but he sensed their hostile intentions and escaped before they could attack him.

His ability was even useful on adults. Some of the regular civilians looked down upon Viktor because of his status as an orphan and are even openly hostile to him. While others, primarily archeologists that knew his parents, are kind to him, offering discounts on food and other items.

By distinguishing between these people, Viktor was actually able to avoid malnutrition, which many other orphans suffered from.

Even more importantly, he was able to get free access to the legendary library of Ohara. Viktor wasn't allowed to check out any of the books as that was reserved for certified scholars. Still, he was only one of two kids younger than 10 that was allowed to browse the library.

Viktor is currently only 6 years old but has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and power. Similar to his parents, Viktor reads every book he could and amassed a plethora of knowledge.

While his parents were true scholars that sought knowledge for curiosity, Viktor stuck to the phrase, ' Knowledge is Power '. He only amassed knowledge to give himself an edge over others.

While his parents didn't leave him with anything in terms of assets, they did teach the most important lesson of all, power is everything. Only with power can one pursue their dreams and ideals.

Because of this, he had a hard time connected to others his age. In fact, he only had one friend, a girl named Raven. Similar to him, she also was orphaned at a young age and sought knowledge and power to the same insane decree Viktor did. They didn't mind being isolated by the other kids as they had each other and walked similar paths.

While Viktor's mad quest for power was more instinctual as he didn't even remember anything about his parents, Raven's was due to experience. Her parents were killed while at sea like Viktor's, but she actually witnessed her parents death.

She was only 2 years old when the ship she and her parents were on were attacked by pirates. Her dad was quickly killed, but her mom wasn't so lucky. Raven's mom was defiled in front of her daughter and then killed when the pirates were done with her.

On the passenger ship, there was a former marine captain aboard that helped fight the pirates. He managed to save Raven from the pirates before they could harm her physically, but she was forever scarred mentally.

Due to this incident, Raven fears to this day being sold into slavery and suffering the same fate as her mother. As a defense mechanism, whenever Raven hears the word slavery, her sadistic side shows. She vows to punish the naughty boys who wish to sell her into slavery by ripping them apart piece by piece and laughing while they scream in agony.

One day, when Viktor was checking a bag of fruits, he found a very peculiar fruit. At first he thought it was simply a rotten fruit and said, " Well that's just great. We got another rotten fruit. Thankfully the rest seem fine so I'll still be able to eat food tonight, or what little we do have. "

Viktor then sighed, " I'm not sure what the deal with the new matron of the orphanage is. Unlike the previous one, I sense no kindness from her. Instead, she gives off a cold, calculative intent, as if she was evaluating livestock. Honestly, she gives me the creeps. Thankfully, she doesn't have any malicious intent, so we should be fine for the time being."

Viktor then realized that this fruit was simply to strange to be natural. It might be a legendary devil fruit. He needed a second opinion, so he looked for Raven.

On the way, Viktor made sure the strange fruit was well hidden. Someone else might recognize the fruit as a devil fruit and try to take it away from him.

When Viktor finally saw Raven and asked, " Hey Raven, you wanna hang out? I got something interesting to show you."

Raven then exclaimed, " Yes, please, I'm so bored right now."

" Oh, I'll make sure you're not bored. Mwa ha ha ha ha mwa ha ha ha", Viktor cackled sinisterly.

Raven then deadpaned, "Dude, are you gonna show me what's so interesting, or are you just going to bluster like a cheesy villian?"

" Believe it or not, I do have something I guarantee you'll be interested in. Just follow me to my room."

"OK, you got me intrigued, let's go to your room." Raven said

Viktor then took Raven to his room, making extra careful that the fruit was hidden and no one was following them.

" Alright, so what is so interesting?" Raven asked.

Viktor then took out the strange apple. " Well I found quite the interesting fruit."

" I mean it certainly looks way different than any fruit I've seen, but so what? To be honest, that fruit doesn't even look edible."

"Exactly! This fruits appearence is weird, too weird.Doesn't this fruit's peculiar appearance remind you of a certain legend involving strange fruits?"

Raven was shocked, " Hold up, you think this is a devil fruit? I thought those were just legend."

"They may not be legend. Not only is it strange, but I feel like this fruit is calling to me, telling me that I could gain extraordinary power by eating it." Viktor said.

Raven looked at Viktor like he was an idiot, " OK, let me get this straight. There's a very suspicious fruit telling you to eat it and all your dreams can be fulfilled. Are you an idiot? Do I really have to tell you how incredibly sus this is?"

" Oh, I'm well aware. But your also well aware how good my instincts are right? And my instincts are telling me that this is a ounce in a lifetime opportunity and I'd regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't take it. Honesty, I asked you here in case something goes wrong." Viktor said determined

Raven sighed " I'm guessing there's nothing I can say to stop you from doing this, is there?"

Viktor had a proud look on his face," Not a thing."

" I'm not sure why you have such a proud look on your face when admitting to doing something stupid, but all right, go ahead. At the very least, this is far from boring."

After Viktor took a bite, he immediately hurled, " Blaugh, What the fuck is this? It tastes like absolute shit! Although, I do sense a new power within my body, so it seems it is a devil fruit. Do I actually have to eat all of it? Sigh, better safe than sorry." Viktor then consumed the rest of the fruit, and hurled for the next 5 minutes.

Then, a message entered his mind. He had eaten the Data Data fruit and became a data person. He had the power to gather data from the outside world and use this data to make simulations and various other uses.
