Chapter 64: Encountering The CP Organization By Chance
"So... cute!"
Kaizen and Vegapunk stared in astonishment at the firefly, now transformed into a humanoid figure. It had pink skin, large, round eyes, and a small pouty mouth.
Standing no taller than a three- or four-year-old child, it exuded an undeniable charm.
"A Hito Hito no Mi effect?" Kaizen murmured, still in shock.
"The power of this Devil Fruit must be... to enhance cuteness!" Vegapunk said, covering his mouth as if overwhelmed by the adorable presence in front of him.
"Daddy!"
Before anyone could react further, the tiny humanoid firefly dove into Kaizen's arms, sending him tumbling backward with surprising force.
"Ha! That hurts!" Kaizen groaned as he hit the ground hard, seemingly unprepared for the sudden attack.
Both Vegapunk and Caesar froze, staring wide-eyed.
"Where... did they go?" Vegapunk asked, confused.
"Over here! Someone come help me pull this thing out!" Kaizen's voice groaned from behind a nearby rock.
Turning toward the sound, they saw the little firefly figure half-embedded in Kaizen's stomach, squirming to free itself.
"Are you okay, friend?" Vegapunk and Caesar worked together to dislodge the firefly, pulling with all their might.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Kaizen grunted as he straightened his back. "But that thing packs a punch."
"I'm hungry," the firefly said sweetly, looking up at Kaizen with innocent eyes.
"I'm not your father!" Kaizen said, exasperated. Though he was annoyed, he couldn't entirely resist its childlike charm.
"Then... Mommy?" the firefly asked, tilting its head in confusion.
"Nope!" Kaizen retorted immediately.
"I bet it's an idiot," Caesar muttered under his breath, earning a glare from Vegapunk.
"Waahhh! I'm so hungry!" the firefly suddenly wailed, its cries breaking through the quiet night.
Vegapunk panicked. "Friend, she's going to get sick if she cries like this! Do something!"
"Tch. A piece of candy would shut her up," Caesar said with a smirk, clearly unbothered.
"Do you have candy, Caesar? If you do, hand it over!" Vegapunk demanded.
"Unfortunately, I'm past the age where candy solves my problems," Caesar replied smugly.
"Then stop acting like you're helpful!" Vegapunk shot back.
"Maybe she needs milk," Kaizen suggested, scratching his chin as he debated whether to treat the firefly as a child or an insect.
"There's a dairy on the far north end of the street," Vegapunk offered.
"Fine. Wait here and keep her under control. I'll go get some," Kaizen said, vanishing in a blur of speed.
---
Kaizen moved swiftly, the streets around him blurring into streaks of light. But as he approached his destination, he suddenly halted, his senses on high alert.
He slipped into a shadowy alley just as a group of figures appeared on the street ahead.
They wore pristine white uniforms and eerie masks, their movements deliberate and synchronized.
"The Cipher Pol organization," Kaizen muttered to himself. His brows furrowed as unease gripped him. "Why are they here?"
Cipher Pol, or CP, was the World Government's elite intelligence agency, directly answering to the Celestial Dragons. Their presence on this island was a dangerous anomaly.
"Whatever they're up to, it can't be good," Kaizen thought grimly.
He stayed hidden until the group disappeared from sight, their pale clothing fading into the night. Only then did he continue his journey.
---
Meanwhile, back with Vegapunk and Caesar...
"What should we do? She's been crying for too long! She's going to make herself sick!" Vegapunk fretted, pacing as the little firefly wailed pitifully.
"I just remembered," Caesar said suddenly. "I still have some milk at home."
Without waiting for Kaizen's return, the two hurriedly carried the firefly to Caesar's house.
"Be quiet when we get there," Caesar warned as they approached the grand estate. "If my father finds out I snuck out, he'll punish me."
Vegapunk nodded, holding the firefly close to calm it down.
They sneaked through the front yard, the house resembling a lavish manor. Pale light glowed from one of the laboratory windows, casting long shadows on the grass.
"Quiet," Caesar whispered as they crept past the lab.
Just as they thought they'd made it, the firefly let out a loud cry.
"Waahhh!"
The sound shattered the silence, echoing across the yard.
"Who's there?"
The lab door flew open, and several figures in white coats stepped outside. A beam of light fell directly on Caesar and Vegapunk.
"Caesar! What are you doing out here?!"
The voice belonged to none other than Caesar's father.
"I, uh..." Caesar stammered, his usual arrogance replaced by nervousness.
"It's my fault," Vegapunk interjected bravely, stepping forward.
"Vegapunk?" another figure stepped out of the lab, his voice full of surprise.
Vegapunk froze. "Dad?!"
