Chapter 74: It's Good to Be Your Opponent
"No one can say no to me except Roger!"
Golden Lion Shiki pointed to himself with his thumb and declared proudly.
"Stop making trouble. If I don't reject you, am I supposed to mess around with you and play that boring pirate game? I'm not interested."
Kaizen looked disinterested, his tone as lazy as his demeanor. He barely paid attention to Shiki's words.
"What?! Are you mocking pirates?"
Shiki's eyes widened, his face a mask of disbelief.
"No. I'm too lazy to mock anyone. Anyone who can live according to their own will in this world is a hero."
As Kaizen spoke, his gaze wandered. He suddenly noticed a massive reef on the shore. His expression brightened.
He walked over, inspected the rock, nodded in satisfaction, and then lay down on it. The warm morning sun seemed perfect for a nap.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Shiki ran over to the reef, visibly shocked.
"Can't you see? I'm sleeping," Kaizen replied, cracking open one eye lazily before closing it again.
"You're sleeping in front of me?! Damn it! How dare you! No one has ever ignored me like this before! I'm furious!"
Shiki clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead as anger built within him.
"You're too noisy."
Kaizen opened his eyes slightly, speaking seriously.
"Presumptuous! No one has ever dared to speak to me like this!"
With that, Shiki unsheathed one of his swords, Oto, and slashed at Kaizen.
Kaizen quickly sidestepped, avoiding the attack. The enormous rock beneath him was split cleanly in two.
"You're skilled, boy!"
Shiki hadn't intended to kill Kaizen with that strike, but his opponent's quick reaction only reignited his competitive spirit.
"You're seriously disturbing my rest. We have no quarrel, and I don't want to fight you. So don't make this worse."
Kaizen dusted himself off, his tone calm but laced with a sharp intensity. His gaze turned cold, his eyes radiating a dangerous aura, hoping to dissuade Shiki.
"Hahahaha! Pirates don't need a reason to start a fight!"
Shiki's laughter echoed sinisterly, his grin wicked. Without hesitation, he swung his sword at Kaizen again, determination written all over his face.
"Take this! This strike will end you!"
Shiki roared, unleashing his attack: Lion's Mane Valley!
A chaotic storm of slicing sword energy flew toward Kaizen, each strike brimming with lethal force.
"You people who always cause trouble are such a headache," Kaizen muttered. His relaxed demeanor vanished, his eyes sharpening as he carefully tracked Shiki's assault.
The sword energy streaked past him, striking the distant sea, causing massive waves to erupt.
"Not bad. Is that Haki?" Kaizen remarked, impressed.
Shiki, now holding his second sword, Kogarashi, adopted a dual-wielding stance. His serious expression showed he was ready to test Kaizen's full capabilities.
"What a pain," Kaizen groaned, rubbing his temple. He could already tell this fight wasn't going to end easily.
"Close-Range Slash!" Shiki roared, closing the distance in an instant.
Shiki realized Kaizen's Observation Haki made long-range attacks futile, so he aimed for a direct blow.
Kaizen responded instinctively, countering with his fists.
Boom! Bang! Crash!
Their clash shook the island. The sky darkened, and the sea grew restless. Fish leaped out of the water as if trying to flee.
Their Armament Haki clashed fiercely, neither backing down. The sheer force radiating from their battle caused the island to tremble as if it might split apart.
Despite Shiki wielding two famed swords, Kaizen fought back with his bare hands.
"Damn it! You've mastered Armament Haki at such a young age? How is that possible?!" Shiki growled in frustration, trying to overpower Kaizen.
"You talk too much," Kaizen shot back. "I've been trying to avoid trouble, but you've forced my hand. Now, I've lost all patience with you, Shiki. Prepare yourself!"
Kaizen's casual demeanor melted away, replaced by intense focus.
"Hahaha! You're the first person to insult me like this to my face! It's exhilarating!" Shiki bellowed, his blood boiling with excitement.
The two launched into a ferocious, no-holds-barred battle. Their strikes tore through the air and churned the sea, creating a spectacle that even nature seemed to pause and witness.
"Hahaha! You're a boy who fits my taste perfectly!" Shiki grinned, slashing wildly, his movements unpredictable.
"Tch. What do you want from me?!" Kaizen snapped, parrying the attacks.
"To kill you, of course!" Shiki replied with a mischievous grin.
"Kill me?! What kind of logic is that?" Kaizen asked, thoroughly irritated.
"Because it's fun!" Shiki laughed, enjoying every moment of their duel.
"Ugh, I don't have time for this nonsense. I have my own dreams to chase!" Kaizen exclaimed.
Kaizen clenched his fists, channeling immense energy. Shiki's eyes widened in shock as he watched the raw power surge from Kaizen's body, momentarily forgetting to defend himself.
