Chapter 13: RBTC: Chapter 13
---
After the battle, Moria enthusiastically invited Buggy to a feast. During the feast, Buggy witnessed Moria's spirit in his youth. He was easy to trust, easy to befriend, and even seemed somewhat simple. The current Moria was completely different from the person Buggy imagined he would become in the future. Perhaps the loss of his entire crew later was what shaped the Moria of the future.
Buggy enjoyed the feast immensely. During the meal, Moria invited Buggy to join his crew and promised him the position of First Mate. Of course, Buggy declined. He had his own path to walk. He had even rejected an invitation from the future Yonko, Shanks. How could he possibly join Moria's crew?
Moria wasn't angry at Buggy's refusal. He continued to eat happily with Buggy, just as he had before.
After the feast, Buggy left Moria's pirate crew, carrying with him the information about Crocodile. Before leaving, Buggy gave Moria a piece of advice. He told him to never challenge Kaido without absolute strength. Even if he did challenge him, he had to be prepared to escape unscathed. He had to leave himself a way out, ensuring both his own safety and the safety of his crew.
This was Buggy's way of preventing the current Moria from becoming the Moria of the future. This was all he could do. He couldn't tell Moria the truth, that he would challenge Kaido, that his crew would be wiped out, that he would end up alone on a deserted island, creating an army of zombies to seek revenge against Kaido, and that his strength would decline to the point where he wouldn't even be as strong as he was now, losing miserably in a fight against a newly-fledged Luffy.
Buggy couldn't tell him these things. They weren't that close. Even if they were, he couldn't tell him. Even if he did tell him about the future, no one would believe him. He couldn't explain how he knew these things, so he could only give Moria indirect advice.
Moria was confused by Buggy's advice. Buggy didn't explain further. He just told him to remember it.
Then Buggy left Moria's pirate crew and set out to find Crocodile. Finally, using the information Moria provided, he found him on an island in the East Blue.
At this time, Crocodile still had both of his arms. He wasn't wearing any iron hooks. Everything else about him was the same as it would be later.
Crocodile didn't have any subordinates at this time. He was alone on this island. When Buggy found him, he wasn't doing anything else. He was training his powers alone. This level of dedication would make the later Crocodile feel ashamed.
Buggy directly stated his intention. Crocodile's reaction was different from his later, more cunning self. As soon as he heard Buggy's intention, he said, "I think you're looking for death. You want to fight me? Don't blame me if you die."
Hearing Crocodile's unfriendly tone, Buggy didn't get angry. This reaction was within his expectations. They didn't say anything more. They immediately started fighting.
Although they weren't in the desert environment of Alabasta, Crocodile's Suna Suna no Mi powers were still terrifying. The overwhelming sandstorm made Buggy feel a sense of danger.
The two of them fought for a day. Buggy won the battle with a slight advantage, but he wasn't sure he could completely defeat Crocodile. Even though he knew the Suna Suna no Mi's weakness was water, he couldn't beat him.
The powers of a Logia-type Devil Fruit were too advantageous. If Crocodile wanted to escape, Buggy wouldn't be able to catch him. And his Haki wasn't particularly outstanding yet. He wouldn't be able to defeat him in a short amount of time.
Buggy couldn't defeat Crocodile, and Crocodile couldn't defeat Buggy. Neither of them could do anything to the other. Finally, they both stopped and ended the battle.
This battle made Crocodile acknowledge Buggy's strength and made him stop speaking to Buggy in such a cocky tone. After exchanging a few words, they got to know each other a little better. They found an inn and had a drink and a meal together. Their relationship improved. Crocodile wasn't as cunning as he would be later. He was actually very sincere and had a unique charisma that made Buggy like him even more.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, it was time to part ways. Crocodile first invited Buggy to join his crew. Of course, Buggy declined. At the same time, Buggy extended his own invitation, asking Crocodile to join his crew. Of course, Crocodile immediately declined. They eventually parted ways on that island.
Buggy got the information about Dracule Mihawk from an information broker. Buggy found him at sea. He was sailing on his coffin-like ship, drifting around the sea. When he saw Dracule Mihawk, Buggy expressed his intention to challenge him, explaining that he was a swordsman.
Dracule Mihawk, of course, wouldn't refuse a challenge from a swordsman. He immediately drew his long sword and engaged Buggy in a duel between swordsmen.
At this time, Yoru, the black blade, wasn't yet black. It wasn't in the category of the Supreme Grade Swords. It was a Great Grade Sword.
The duel between swordsmen ended with Buggy's miserable defeat. Dracule Mihawk had already reached the level of a swordsman, while Buggy was still at the level of "cutting iron." Of course, he couldn't beat him. He was defeated miserably, receiving a cut on his abdomen.
The duel between swordsmen ended with that cut. The two of them introduced themselves to each other and traveled together for a while.
During this time, Buggy used all his abilities to fight Dracule Mihawk again. This time, the battle ended in a draw. Buggy's Devil Fruit was a swordsman's nemesis. When he used it in battle, no matter how Dracule Mihawk swung his sword, he couldn't hurt Buggy. The battle was meaningless. Mihawk ended the battle with a look of resignation.
During this time, Buggy also fought Mihawk multiple times, using only swordsmanship. Through his battles with Mihawk, Buggy learned a lot. He felt that his swordsmanship had improved significantly. He was expected to break through to the level of a swordsman within a year.
They didn't spend much time together. After touring the East Blue, Mihawk bid farewell to Buggy and left the East Blue.
In the following period, Buggy digested the lessons he had learned from his battles with different strong individuals. He also accepted bounty hunting missions, taking down vicious pirates who were terrorizing the East Blue. His reputation quickly spread throughout the East Blue. The name "Clown" became known to everyone in Loguetown.
