Chapter 4: Chapter 4: "Shadows of CP9"
The tension in Ohara escalated in the days following the meeting at the library. Whispers of the special unit from the World Government had transformed into a palpable dread that clung to the air like a heavy fog. The scholars worked tirelessly to conceal their research, but deep down, they all knew that the looming threat was now more than just a rumor.
William kept a close eye on Robin, sensing her unease as they navigated through the stacks of ancient texts. He tried to lighten the mood with jokes, recalling the silly antics of their childhood, but the smiles on Robin's face were fleeting. Each day brought them closer to an inevitable confrontation, and William felt it deep in his bones.
"Hey, Robin," William said one afternoon as they were poring over the ancient texts in the library. "If we ever find a treasure map, I hope it leads us to something good. Like all the snacks we can eat!"
Robin looked up, her lips curving into a smirk. "You mean all the snacks you can eat. Last time we had a feast, you ate half the food before I even got a plate!"
William grinned mischievously. "That was a tactical move! If I didn't eat quickly, you might have snagged the best pieces. I can't let my best friend out-snack me!"
Robin rolled her eyes playfully. "You do realize that you can't win a snack competition by being a bottomless pit, right?"
"Hey, it's a strategy! I'm just preparing for the worst. If I ever find myself in a pirate crew, I need to be ready for the inevitable 'who can eat the most' challenge!"
Robin chuckled, shaking her head. "You might want to focus on learning how to fight instead. You know, just in case the pirates want to make you a snack."
William laughed, "Fair point! But I'll still be the snack champion of Ohara!"
She turned to him, her expression shifting from amusement to concern. "William, what do you think is going to happen?"
Before he could answer, a commotion erupted outside the library. Shouts echoed through the hall, and William's heart raced. He exchanged a worried glance with Robin, and they quickly rose to their feet, rushing toward the source of the noise.
As they stepped out into the courtyard, the sight that greeted them was one that sent chills down William's spine. A group of men, clad in dark suits and wearing sunglasses, stood imposingly in front of the library. They exuded an aura of authority that sent waves of fear rippling through the gathered scholars.
"CP9," a voice murmured from the crowd. "They're here."
William felt a surge of anger. The very people who represented the shadowy arm of the World Government had come to their doorstep, ready to bully them into silence. He could see the fear etched into the faces of the scholars around him, but he refused to back down.
"Stay back, Robin," he said, his voice steady. "I'll handle this."
"William, don't!" she urged, grabbing his arm. But his resolve had already set in.
He stepped forward, ignoring the protests of those behind him. The CP9 agents turned their attention to him, a smirk playing on the lips of the one who appeared to be their leader. "What do we have here?" the man said, his voice dripping with condescension. "A little boy playing hero?"
William's fists clenched at his sides. "You're not welcome here. Leave now, and we won't have a problem."
The leader chuckled, exchanging glances with his comrades. "And what are you going to do about it? You think you can stand against us?"
"I know I can," William retorted, his voice firm. "I'm not afraid of you."
The smirk faded from the agent's face, replaced by a glint of menace. "Very well, if you want to play the hero, we'll gladly oblige."
In an instant, the atmosphere shifted. The agent lunged at William, and without thinking, William reacted. His body moved with a speed and strength that surprised even him. He dodged the incoming strike with ease, feeling the adrenaline coursing through his veins.
As the agent stumbled past him, William seized the opportunity. He countered with a swift punch, connecting with the agent's side. The impact sent shockwaves through his opponent, and William felt a rush of exhilaration. He had always known he was strong, but the sheer force behind his strike was unlike anything he had experienced before.
The other CP9 agents sprang into action, their movements fluid and precise. William faced them head-on, his heart pounding with both fear and exhilaration. He was fearless, unafraid of the chaos surrounding him; his only fear was losing those he loved.
He fought with an instinctive ferocity, throwing punches and dodging kicks with remarkable agility. He could feel the strength in his body surging as he weaved through the attacks, and the energy seemed to flow from his core.
"Stay back!" he shouted at the gathering scholars, urging them to remain at a distance. "I've got this!"
But as the battle raged on, William soon realized that he was up against more than just strength; the agents of CP9 were trained fighters, skilled in their craft. One of them lunged at him with a powerful kick, and William barely managed to sidestep, countering with a blow of his own.
The skirmish escalated, the courtyard filled with the sounds of fists colliding and shouts of surprise. William could see Robin in his periphery, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and admiration. He fought harder, each strike fueled by the determination to protect her and everyone in Ohara.
Suddenly, a figure broke through the chaos. Professor Clover, his face pale, rushed forward. "William! You need to get away! They're too strong!"
"I can't just run!" William shouted back, his voice firm. "Not when they're threatening everyone!"
Clover glanced over his shoulder, assessing the situation. "We need to retreat! We can't risk getting anyone else hurt!"
But before they could decide on a plan, the leader of the CP9 agents let out a commanding shout, rallying his comrades. "Enough of this! We'll finish this little game!"
William felt a rush of adrenaline, his instincts screaming at him to fight harder. He squared his shoulders, preparing for their next assault. "I won't back down!" he declared, his voice ringing with defiance.
With a fierce resolve, he launched himself at the closest agent, channeling every ounce of strength within him. As they clashed, he could feel the tide of the fight shift. This was his first real test, and he wouldn't let fear dictate his actions.
In that moment, William knew one thing for certain: he would protect Ohara and those he loved, no matter the cost.
