A piercing sound echoed.
The sound of a blade tearing into flesh.
The cursed blade, Kitetsu, had already plunged through Doflamingo's chest, tearing through his lungs.
However, in the world of One Piece, where everyone has monstrous physical resilience, even a punctured lung wasn't enough to threaten Doflamingo's life.
Moreover, Karl had exercised restraint.
At most, he intended to cripple Doflamingo, not kill him.
Otherwise, it would be difficult to answer to the Five Elders.
"Karl... you... rat…"
Doflamingo's voice came out in broken gasps, his speech fragmented and incoherent due to his punctured lungs.
His body was weak and limp, entirely devoid of strength.
Doflamingo had never imagined that he would be defeated by Karl.
He had always believed that Karl's victories over legends like Shiki the Golden Lion and Douglas Bullet were merely due to luck.
But now, it was clear: Karl truly was as terrifyingly strong as the legends suggested.
He underestimated him.
Not that it would have made a difference—even at full strength, Doflamingo couldn't have been Karl's match.
If Karl hadn't deliberately spared his life, he could have finished him in an instant.
Capturing someone alive is far more challenging than killing them outright.
Karl had to carefully control his strength, ensuring he didn't accidentally kill Doflamingo with a single blow.
Seeing that Doflamingo was completely incapacitated, Karl delivered a sharp strike to the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious. Then, grabbing him by his clothes, Karl dragged him over to the members of the Donquixote Family.
"Young Master?!"
The members of the Donquixote Family were stunned when they saw their leader, bloodied, missing his right arm, and utterly defeated.
They couldn't believe their Young Master had lost—and so decisively.
"Commodore Karl, what should we do with the rest of them?"
[TL/N: I'm honestly confused at this moment. The raw says Rear Admiral here, yet if my memory serves me right, Karl didn't get his expected promotion due to a series of him messing it up. Does this author have some problem with his memory? Anyway, I'll be using Commodore for now.]
The officer in charge of this operation was a Marine Rear Admiral from Headquarters, personally requested by Karl to assist with the mission.
More than half of the Marines present were also from Headquarters, a precaution Karl insisted upon.
Without this level of preparation, capturing the Donquixote Family would not have been so easy.
"Be extra cautious when detaining these people. Make sure none of them escape. Once we reach the G-8 Branch, hand them over to Vice Admiral Kuzan—he'll know what to do."
"Understood, Commodore Karl. But as for Doflamingo…"
"I'll personally escort Doflamingo. You won't be able to keep him under control on your own. Do you have any spare Seastone cuffs on board?"
"Yes, Commodore! I'll fetch them for you right away!"
The Marine officer quickly rushed back to the warship and returned with a set of Seastone restraints.
"Good speed. By the way, what's your name?" Karl asked casually while cuffing Doflamingo.
The Marine stood at attention and saluted. "Commodore Karl, sir! My name is Onigumo. This is my first time participating in an operation at sea!"
"Onigumo?"
Karl looked at the young Onigumo with some surprise but quickly dismissed it as unimportant.
Even if the Marine were destined for recognition in the future, Karl didn't care unless it directly benefited him.
After giving Onigumo a few brief instructions, Karl told him where to find Vergo's body, leaving him to deal with it.
With that handled, Karl returned to his warship.
Rosinante stood on deck, gazing at his brother, Doflamingo, who lay unconscious. His arm was severed, and his body bore two bloody wounds. A complicated expression crossed Rosinante's face.
"Karl... he's not dead, is he?"
"Don't worry. The Five Elders gave strict orders to keep him alive, so I didn't kill him. Besides, I'd rather not deal with being grounded again—it's not a pleasant experience."
Karl casually tossed Doflamingo onto the deck, leaving the ship's medics to treat his injuries.
At that moment, Law stirred awake.
When his eyes fell on Doflamingo, he jumped up in shock and tried to flee.
But Rosinante's reflexes were faster, pinning Law in place.
"Law! Calm down! Doflamingo has already been defeated by Karl—he's no longer a threat to us!"
"D-defeated?"
Law froze, his wide eyes fixed on Karl.
"You defeated him? That's impossible!"
"There's nothing impossible about it," Karl replied nonchalantly. "Doflamingo is nothing special. I don't even consider him worth my time."
Karl's tone shifted as he addressed Law more seriously.
"But you, Law—focus on learning medicine and curing your Amber Lead Syndrome. If you don't, you'll be dead within two years. And while I couldn't care less about your life, Rosinante would be heartbroken if you died."
"Amber Lead Syndrome is incurable… How can I…"
"Stop spouting nonsense! Your Ope Ope no Mi can cure it, and don't even think about playing dumb—I already know you ate the fruit. Rosinante told me everything."
Karl's voice thundered, snapping Law out of his despair.
In the original story, Rosinante's death was what awakened Law from his hopelessness.
But with Rosinante alive, Karl had to resort to other methods to push Law forward.
"Get into the cabin and start studying, or I'll throw you overboard right now!"
Law finally noticed his surroundings—the ship was soaring through the sky, surrounded by endless clouds.
Looking over the edge, he couldn't even see the ocean below. The frigid air stung his skin, sending shivers through his body.
"Law," Rosinante said gently. "Karl's right. Focus on curing your illness first. Everything I've done so far was to save you. If you die, then all of it will have been for nothing. And if you die… I won't go on living either."
"No! Cora-san, you have to live!"
Law's face turned pale, and he panicked, shaking Rosinante's shoulders.
To an outsider, it might have looked like he was trying to strangle him.
"Alright, alright! Stop shaking me, or you really will kill me…"
Hearing this, Law immediately let go, stepping back awkwardly as his cheeks flushed red.
Rosinante ruffled Law's hair, his own face tinged with embarrassment.
Watching the two, Karl felt the atmosphere grow strangely warm but chose not to interrupt their moment of bonding.
