One Piece: Signing In as a Pirate Begins with Roger's Execution

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Sorrow of Doflamingo

Doflamingo's arrogant laughter echoed through the Fleet Admiral's office.

His laugh continued unabated, almost as if he were the master of the room rather than Karl's prisoner.

Sengoku observed the scene, setting aside the documents in his hand. He stepped forward slowly, throwing Karl a meaningful glance.

Karl chuckled, releasing the chain in his hand and snapping his fingers.

The doors shut automatically as Karl settled onto a nearby chair.

"Old man Sengoku, rest assured. Brother Rosinante was on the brink of death back then, but I arrived just in time to save him."

"That said, his injuries are still severe. He's wrapped head-to-toe in bandages, looking like a mummy. Only his head is exposed; the rest of him is completely bound. It's truly pitiful."

"Even his bones are riddled with fractures. If not for his robust constitution, he'd already be dead. It was a close call—a second later, and I can't guarantee what might've happened."

Karl spoke casually, recounting the events with a mix of truth and exaggeration.

Whether his words were entirely accurate no longer mattered.

Karl's goal was simple: to provoke Sengoku's anger.

And he had succeeded.

Sengoku's veins bulged on his forehead as his face turned grim.

A burst of Conqueror's Haki unique to Sengoku overwhelmed the room, suppressing Doflamingo to the point he couldn't lift his head.

This was Sengoku's distinct Conqueror's Haki.

Feeling its pressure, Karl's gaze flicked toward a nearby painting, where bold characters were inscribed:

Justice Reigns Supreme!

This was Sengoku's justice.

It was why he became the first Marine to possess Conqueror's Haki.

"Fuffuffuffuffu! Sengoku, what's the meaning of this? Do you intend to kill me?"

Despite the immense pressure, which left him unable to lift his head, Doflamingo still managed to taunt.

But Sengoku wasn't one to be trifled with.

He slowly raised his right arm, which was gradually coated in Armament Haki.

Suddenly—

Sengoku's fist slammed down with tremendous force!

Doflamingo's back twisted unnaturally, his entire body collapsing to the floor. He couldn't rise or even speak.

His spine had been deformed, an injury that would have killed an ordinary person. But Doflamingo, though immobilized, remained alive.

"Hmph! That punch was for Rosinante. If it weren't for the fact that you're still useful, I'd have killed you already!"

Sengoku snorted coldly, clearly suppressing a deep-seated grudge.

His dislike for Doflamingo was evident. If not for the Five Elders' explicit orders to keep him alive, neither Karl nor Sengoku would have shown him any mercy.

Leaving him disabled was already a lenient punishment.

"Old man Sengoku, let's not bother with him anymore. Rosinante is probably still with Granny Tsuru handling formalities and should be here soon."

"How about we talk about your upcoming promotion instead? You're about to become Fleet Admiral, yet you didn't even tell me over the Den Den Mushi. What, am I an outsider now? Haha!"

Karl walked forward with a laugh, giving Sengoku a brief hug.

Sengoku coughed awkwardly, gently pushing Karl away.

"Cut the sentimentality. I only received the notice yesterday, telling me to move into the Fleet Admiral's office."

"As for when I'll officially assume the role, that depends on the Five Elders' deliberations. But it's essentially a done deal."

"Once I'm promoted, the Admiral positions will open up. Are you interested in becoming a Marine Admiral? With your rank and strength, an exception could easily be made for you."

Sengoku patted Karl's shoulder as if encouraging him.

But Karl smirked and declined the offer.

"No thanks. I don't want to deal with people pointing fingers at me. I've already captured a big fish and rooted out corruption in the West Blue Marines."

"No matter what, I think being promoted to Rear Admiral is more than reasonable. Let's leave it at that."

"Those folks already don't like me. I'd rather not give them another reason to gossip behind my back."

It was clear Karl was referring to the Celestial Dragons.

Sengoku nodded in agreement, finding Karl's reasoning sound.

"True. They've always disliked you, especially after you exposed your identity in the West Blue and formed that 'Red Church.' They'd definitely oppose you."

"But speaking of which, what exactly is this Red Church of yours? I've heard it's a faith-promoting organization that encourages virtue, yet its methods seem like a mix of pirate and mafia tactics."

"What's going on here? If I didn't know it was your organization, I'd have sent someone to clean it up."

Sengoku's understanding of the Red Church was limited, so he naturally sought clarification to avoid misunderstandings.

Karl led Sengoku to a seat and began explaining his plans in detail.

He omitted the presence of Ohara's survivors, instead describing his intention to launch a universal literacy campaign, starting with the West Blue as a trial zone.

Karl aimed to use education to improve the general populace's ability to discern right from wrong.

If successful, he planned to expand this program within the Marines and across the Four Blues. The Grand Line, with its chaos, would be a more challenging prospect.

Sengoku's eyes lit up upon hearing Karl's proposal.

As a strategist, Sengoku understood the transformative potential of such a plan if executed successfully.

He fully supported Karl's idea and even pledged to promote it within the Marines.

However, there was a caveat: the West Blue trial must succeed, and the Celestial Dragons' approval was crucial to avoid complications.

Sengoku was well aware of how this could threaten the Celestial Dragons' rule.

But Karl remained unfazed, confident in his position and strength as a Celestial Dragon himself.

Unless they were willing to openly break ties, the plan would proceed.

As Karl and Sengoku became engrossed in their discussion, they completely forgot about Doflamingo, who remained immobilized on the floor.

Every word of their conversation reached Doflamingo's ears.

The more he listened, the more shocked he became.

Only now did Doflamingo realize just how childish his "world of pain" plan was compared to Karl's grand ambitions!
