10:00 PM, Jiangzhong City, Base No. 18 Login Gate, Data Research Institute.

In the brightly lit research hall, over a dozen technicians were busy comparing the data streaming across their computer screens. Hanging in the middle of the room was an enormous LED screen displaying the ongoing status of participants in the Newcomer Trial.

As the screen scrolled, numerous names appeared in red, each marked with "Eliminated."

A military officer entered the institute with four or five subordinates, one of whom was the female instructor who had guided the newcomers earlier in the day.

The researchers noticed the visitors and began to rise, but the officer raised a hand, signaling them to continue.

"You keep working," he said.

An older man with gray hair hurried over to greet him. "Commander Wei, you're still awake at this hour?"

The man was Wei Ying, Commander of the Seventh Army of the Jiangzhong Military Region.

Wei Ying smiled and nodded, glancing at the screen. When his eyes caught the sea of red names, a trace of regret flickered across his face.

"How's the trial going, Old Li?" he asked.

Old Li, the head researcher, promptly reported, "This trial had 423 participants in total. Of these, 288 were returning participants, while 145 were first-timers. Nine and a half hours in, 173 have been eliminated, most of them first-timers."

Wei Ying nodded gravely. "The first day is always the hardest, especially for newcomers. By the way, Lieutenant Lu, ensure that psychological counseling for the eliminated participants is thorough."

He turned to a young officer behind him. "Dying in Destiny's Calling feels as real as in the physical world. The trauma—both mental and physical—can be overwhelming. They need proper support."

The young officer saluted. "Yes, sir!" He then jogged out of the room.

Old Li resumed his report. "Of the remaining 350 participants, all have completed their job transitions. Among them, 213 encountered beasts and barely escaped... The trial zone is even more perilous at night. Who knows how many will remain by morning?"

Wei Ying nodded again. The situation mirrored previous trials.

"Old Li, anyone worth special attention?"

"There is!" Old Li's tone brightened. "The data from their wristwatches shows one Martial Disciple and two Soldiers among the participants."

Wei Ying's eyes narrowed slightly. "A Martial Disciple and two Soldiers?"

These job materials were exclusively distributed by the military and required rigorous selection to obtain. Yet the participants weren't from military units, indicating the materials had come from the black market—a rarity, especially for Martial Disciple materials, which had only appeared once in the last decade.

"Do we know who they are?"

Old Li nodded. "The Martial Disciple is Xia Shu, eldest son of Xia Haoyu, chairman of Eternal Energy. The two Soldiers are Sun Lu of the Sun family and Zhu Ting of the Zhu family."

Wei Ying listened intently. Eternal Energy and Xuanwu Military Tech were closely aligned with the military, so their access to these resources wasn't surprising.

Another officer in the room, a young woman named Su Lanlan, couldn't contain her excitement. "With more Martial Disciple and Soldiers, China's global competitiveness will only increase. And we'll have more recruits to fight the Beast Gods in the future."

Wei Ying shook his head with a wry smile. "Lanlan, you're too optimistic. Other nations are advancing too. Some have even developed entirely new classes. The competition is only getting fiercer."

Lanlan fell silent, chastened.

Wei Ying turned back to Old Li. "Anything else of note?"

Old Li hesitated, then turned to Su Lanlan. "Your younger sister, Nuansuan, has been moving alongside another participant since 9:00 PM. It appears they've teamed up."

Su Lanlan's face darkened. "Teamed up? I explicitly warned her not to. This girl never listens."

She grew more agitated. "Who's her teammate? How strong are they?"

Old Li grimaced. "His name is Jiang Kai, a first-timer. His wristwatch is an outdated Golden Compass model. The limited data prevents us from assessing his abilities."

Su Lanlan clenched her fists. "She teamed up with a rookie? This is ridiculous. She's doomed to fail."

Wei Ying placed a calming hand on her shoulder. "It's too early to say that. She hasn't been eliminated yet."

Reluctantly, Su Lanlan muttered under her breath, "Not yet..."

Wei Ying didn't press the issue and instead changed the topic. "Old Li, any notable kill records?"

"There are three kills of Chameleon Ground Snakes, two of Phantom Black-Tailed Foxes, and one by Huang Wei—a six-clawed Golden Monkey."

Wei Ying's eyes gleamed with interest. "Keep an eye on Huang Wei and the others. They're showing promise."

"Yes, Commander!"

As Wei Ying left, he cast a last glance at the survivor list on the giant screen, murmuring to himself, "The real challenges have yet to begin. Run fast, little ones. As fast as you can."

———

Back in the trial zone, Su Nuannuan's medicinal skills had worked wonders. Jiang Kai and Yuan Zhu had mostly recovered from their injuries.

While resting, Su Nuannuan even made two leather shorts for them using leftover materials.

She cleaned herself up by a nearby river, emerging as a fresh-faced young beauty. Her animal-hide crop top and skirt gave her a wild yet alluring look.

The three of them gathered to discuss their next move.

"We need to level up," Su Nuannuan said confidently. "The easiest prey is the Chameleon Ground Snake. With the antidote, they pose little threat."

Jiang Kai nodded. "That makes sense. What's the plan?"

Su Nuannuan hesitated. "Well, I don't have one yet..."

Jiang Kai laughed and shook his head. "Alright, then we'll start with this. Ground Snakes hunt by sensing vibrations. We'll use that to lure them."

He paused, adding, "And one more thing."

Su Nuannuan and Yuan Zhu looked at him expectantly.

"The trial zone is crescent-shaped. Most participants will instinctively head toward the center near Huaxia City. Larger beasts will follow the crowd. If we move in the opposite direction, we'll avoid the most dangerous predators and have more space to operate safely."

Su Nuannuan's eyes sparkled with admiration. Jiang Kai's unconventional strategy impressed her.

She added, "And we should focus on leveling one person first. Jiang Kai, you already have kill experience, so I suggest you go first."

Yuan Zhu immediately agreed. "Absolutely. You lead, Kai!"

Jiang Kai nodded, standing up. "Alright. Let's hunt!"
