chapter 8
Episode 8 .
Blue embers were transferred to the bodies of the sinners.
Iden jerked his head to look at Xerath.
“It’s not mine anymore.”
A small ember soon turned into flames and burned the two.
It was a cold fire that made me feel uncomfortable. It swallowed the sinners in an instant and sent them back as a handful of ashes, burning proudly.
Aiden was overcome with a terrible sense of exhaustion. It was as if all his energy had disappeared, as if he would collapse at any moment.
“Blue Flame consumes holy power and physical strength extremely, so handle it carefully.”
The flames were quickly extinguished. It did not spread to other places, but was scattered after judging sinners.
Aiden’s heart was complicated. It was a very happy thing to grow up with new powers, but it was because I couldn’t figure out why the powers moved.
If the growth so far was due to Aiden’s plans and intentions, Blue Flames were close to chance.
Xerath was looking at Iden with a satisfied expression.
“…is Master all right?”
In the game, blue flames were the identity of Xerath. Reality won’t be that different.
“The one who deserved it took the power of a god. What could be wrong?”
He had no pretense.
“It’s just a matter of using that power to your advantage.”
“I have no intention of burning an innocent person to death.”
“hahahaha, it seems I have old feelings. I hope the public will sympathize with your conception of justice. Even though I failed.”
I didn’t know about justice, but I knew what to do.
Aiden changed the subject and asked.
“First, I need to hear what the archbishop said. Did Forell elaborate?”
“no. They only knew that they had a relationship of some sort.”
Forel was no vessel to hide the truth from Xerath’s interrogation.
“I’ll have to see the Archbishop.”
“I will participate in the holy woman installation ceremony. Most bishops and above will at least show their faces.”
“All right. First of all… I need to get some rest. Excuse me, Master, please sort out the rest.”
“Go upstairs and get some rest. When I wake up, there will be a lot of talk about you.”
Aiden struggled to the room Xerath gave him.
*
Forel’s apostasy and numerous evil deeds were revealed in full at the Holy Synod.
Some argued that the incident should be covered up quietly, but the Holy Council decided that it was impossible to cover it up because the route Xerath escorted the apostate overlapped with the procession of the Sachilier family.
Some of the high-ranking priests even looked at Xerath for the damage to the church’s honor.
I rebuked them for having to move a little more secretly so that I could finish the work within the church.
Of course, no official pressure was applied.
Dozens of girls were found in the basement of the residence of the Southwest Diocese, where Forel served as bishop.
Some had long since died, and most had been shattered by horrific abuse.
The church decided to send the children to a monastery for protection and treatment.
The Church’s task force launched an extensive investigation to find out heresy, but there were no tangible results.
A few priests who committed minor injustices were hanged. Most of the dead were in the lower ranks, below the bishop’s level.
A lot of attention was focused on Iden, the center of all these events.
The temple where the ceremony of consecration of a saint was held. In this place where numerous people, including the distinguished guests of the empire, gathered, the most upbeat topic was by far this incident.
“oh! You are Sir Aiden. nice to meet you Lord of Grandel, Viscount Garfield.”
“I have heard the name familiar. You said you defeated the Dark Warrior. I am Beckman, a knight of the Imperial Imperial Knights.”
“I heard that he was resurrected in the flames of a fire. Is that true?”
“God will remember your dedication to saving a young life. My name is Priestess Amelia.”
.
.
.
When Iden first created the character, he set his status as a commoner. It was because the lower the lineage was set, the stronger it was in terms of abilities and characteristics.
An orphan abandoned in a monastery. In a society where status determines most, it served as a fatal weakness.
He was scorned by many aristocrats until he embarked on the path of training and slayed countless demons and gained fame.
So, Iden was very unfamiliar with this kind of treatment.
Before the installation ceremony began, the temple chapel looked like a nobleman’s social gathering.
If it wasn’t for Archbishop Tegain, I wouldn’t have come here.
Iden was uncomfortable and bothered by the nobles approaching while wearing masks.
Friendship with a paladin was a precious asset, so there was a constant flow of people to the table where Aiden was sitting.
I was passing the time with such nonsensical talk. A huge man approached with Iden’s arms in both hands.
“This is Lady Uriel’s bodyguard. I’m here to return the luggage you left.”
When Euron saw it, he ran from behind.
“Give it to me!”
Aiden was puzzled. If it was the Euron he knew, wouldn’t he be able to hear it even if he died and woke up?
Euron, who had been handed over the armament, held out for a little while, as expected. His legs gave out and he fell to his knees.
However, Aiden was quite satisfied. It’s been a week since I arrived in Seonghwangguk. At Xerath’s sister-in-law, I saw Euron, who was training hard all day.
That was quite a bit of progress.
The three paladins who watched from afar burst into laughter.
“hahahaha, I can’t even use it anywhere like that.”
“Isn’t the prestige exaggerated? If the seed is like that, the master’s reputation will be damaged.”
“Let’s not be mean. That great Sir Aiden must have a reason for taking such a handsome fellow with him.”
Euron’s face was stained with shame. For a recruit, there was no greater honor than serving a paladin.
Euron wanted to do well. Even though it was a temporary job, I wanted to leave a good impression while serving.
To him, Aiden was a paladin worthy of respect.
“Wake up. Stretch your shoulders.”
Aiden lifted the armament holding down Euron.
“It was presumptuous. sorry.”
“It was your job. Do better next time.”
It sounded rather cold, but it was an opportunity for Euron.
Aiden and the paladins collided in the air.
They came up first and said hello.
“Nice to meet you. It’s Tairun. You said you passed the ordeal in two years? What a feat. If that’s true.”
Normally 7 years. It was four years at the earliest.
Iden was the only paladin who passed the ordeal in two years, even after looking through the records.
“Nice to meet you. But what you said… I’m sorry. I have never heard of it.”
In an instant, Tai Lun’s eyes flashed with compassion. He smiled and shook hands.
“Hmm, that’s probably because I’m still inexperienced. If you have a chance, go to the North once. Gozo, you’ll hear about the paladin who tore Monta to death. hahahaha.”
Aiden also smiled and took the hand that was handed to him. The other two paladins had smiles on their faces as if they were watching a fun spectacle.
Suddenly, the sound of bones being twisted was heard. Aiden’s expression was calm, and Tyrun’s face was red.
“Rumors are meaningless if you say them with your own mouth.”
Iden poured more power into his grasp.
“It seems that the fact that you tore and killed the rogue bird is a lie on your part.”
Tyrun screamed and wanted to shake off his grip. one couldn’t Pride. Because he was also a holy knight.
Aiden slowly released his power. Fights like this were common. Show your skills, but don’t overdo it.
Tyrun’s thoughts were a little different. The roaring spirit of struggle shook as if it would explode sooner or later. If it was outdoors, they might have challenged to a duel.
When the atmosphere cooled down a bit, the noisy hall calmed down for an instant.
Yuriel was entering the place where the eyes of the distinguished guests gathered.
The woman walking on the white carpet was a beautiful woman who did not even tolerate jealousy, just as the setting in the game.
Moans erupted from all over the seat. Iden had no choice but to realize the ripple effect of his appearance.
Because Tyrun, who used to burn fighting spirit like a fighting dog, was also engulfed by her.
Yuriel scanned the crowd with her eyes. After finding Iden, he slowly approached.
People’s gazes followed.
The three paladins welcomed Yuriel with polite expressions and soft words.
“Meet the saintess. Northeastern Parish Office…”
“I am not a saint yet. Rather, Sir Aiden.”
Yuriel showed her respect by slightly rolling up the hem of her white dress.
“Your advice saved my life. On behalf of the Sachilier family, we offer our official thanks.”
People groaned. That paladin even saved the life of a saintess? Those were the words, but Iden was quite happy with this kind of performance by Uriel.
It was because Aiden’s virtuous level rose subtly, as if someone sincere was truly impressed.
“My father promised ample compensation.”
“I will not accept any compensation. It was God’s will that you saved the young lady’s life. not me.”
“is that so?”
A strange light passed through Yuriel’s pupils. her powers. The mind’s eye, which can see through lies, saw through Aiden’s bullsh*t.
It didn’t matter. Shim’s eye had always seen the absurdity of the church and the hypocrisy of priests, so there was nothing like romance left in her heart.
People like that don’t have expectations from others. So there was no way to be disappointed.
The ‘noble hypocrisy’ that falls due to the disappointment of others was an exception in front of this woman.
“That’s right. If you really care, consecrate it to God.”
“I do. Rather, can we talk a little bit?”
Iden pointed to the other side of the table. When Yuriel asked for understanding with his eyes, the gathered paladins and nobles moved away.
she sat down
“You threw yourself into the flames of the Inquisitor to save the child. Was that also God’s will?”
I thought I was going to ask about the group that had attacked the procession, but I was wrong.
“It is not.”
If there were no listening ears around, there was no reason to lie. I’m going to get caught anyway.
“What if?”
“I meant it.”
“May I ask why? Sir, I bet you didn’t know about blue flames.”
“It was for me.”
Uriel looked at Iden with a puzzled look. It was because her mind could not see through the true meaning of those words.
That meant that Aiden himself wasn’t sure about what he was saying.
Even if he replied that he did it for the sake of the child, his mind’s eye wouldn’t work.
“Dara, who jumped into the flames for her own sake… At first glance, this is an ambiguous expression. I don’t know, but your devotion deserves to be fully rewarded. God will want him too.”
Yuriel raised her hands neatly on the table.
“Sir Aiden, hold my hand.”
What Uriel wanted to do was the saintess’ blessing. A kind of buff that increases the target’s stats by a certain amount. Of course, it was a setting in the game, so I didn’t know how it worked in real life.
Whatever it was, there was no need to kick the rolled rice cake. It was limited to one time, but it was a very highly regarded blessing.
Aiden took her hand.
“Here, the agent of judgment has faithfully fulfilled its original duty. You spread your teachings with the strength to cry out for destruction and the tenderness to care for the weak. If God permits, I would like to share my blessing with Lee.”
A warm light source wrapped around Aiden’s body. People clapped their hands or nodded their heads as they watched.
Satisfactory results followed.
“Will you always be faithful?”
“I will.”
“Will you always spread the teachings of God?”
“Yes, I will.”
“Will you lead the destruction for God?”
“Of course.”
Every time the question was repeated, Yuriel’s expression shook slightly.
“Would you always devote yourself to God?”
“of course.”
She lifted her eyelids. His eyes gleamed with suspicion.
“Sir Aiden? Perhaps you…”
Most of the people in this world have faith. In a world full of inexplicable unknowns, even the wicked did not deny the existence of God.
Not to mention the paladins don’t believe in God. That was impossible.
Aiden left the embarrassed Uriel behind and stood up.
“I will use the blessing bestowed upon me. thank you.”
“wait a minute.”
“Let’s talk about it later. I have some work to do now.”
Archbishop Tegain. The ultimate purpose of being in this position was to enter the chapel.
