Chapter 157: Chapter 157

**Chapter 157: Field – Heaven and Earth Net**

Zhao Ling and Liu Erlong strolled leisurely through the depths of Sunset Forest, but after wandering all morning, they still hadn't found a suitable ten-thousand-year-old soul beast.

By the time noon arrived, Liu Erlong's stomach growled, prompting an awkward smile toward Zhao Ling.

Without hesitation, Zhao Ling retrieved the corpse of a wild boar soul beast from his storage space, gathered some dry branches, and began preparing to roast the meat.

Previously, they had hunted a large number of low-level soul beasts near the outskirts of Sunset Forest. Even with over a hundred people in the mansion eating for days, they hadn't consumed more than one-fifth of the supply.

Zhao Ling distributed most of the meat to the servants, instructing them to salt and dry it into bacon, ensuring the mansion had enough provisions for the long term. A small reserve of low-level soul beast meat remained in his storage space—kept for emergencies.

After cleaning the boar's skin and organs, Zhao Ling washed the meat thoroughly several times. Using the Canglan Sword, he sliced the meat into pieces and skewered them on wooden sticks.

To guarantee a hearty meal, each skewer held about a pound of lean meat.

The two worked seamlessly—having participated in multiple barbecues at the mansion, they were well-versed in the process.

Once the skewers were ready, Liu Erlong seasoned the meat with salt, pepper, and chili powder, letting it marinate for about half an hour.

Zhao Ling sighed. "If I'd thought ahead, I would've asked the mansion staff to clean and marinate the meat in advance. I could've just taken it out and grilled it right away. Now, we're stuck doing everything ourselves—such a hassle."

Liu Erlong shot him a playful glance. "Who told you not to prepare? Stop complaining and start the fire."

Gathering dry firewood, Liu Erlong released her martial soul. The Immortal Dragon Phoenix appeared behind her, flames enveloping its form as two yellow soul rings and one purple soul ring circled her body.

With a breath of scorching fire, the wood ignited instantly.

A smirk tugged at Liu Erlong's lips as she turned to Zhao Ling with pride. "The fire's ready. Pretty impressive, huh?"

Zhao Ling's mouth twitched. Did she really see herself as a human lighter? Was unleashing her martial soul just to start a fire necessary?

Though he silently complained, he couldn't resist her eager expression. Smiling, he nodded.

"Impressive! My wife, Long'er, is amazing! Spitting fire like that—I applaud you!"

Liu Erlong laughed sweetly and arranged the skewers around the fire.

This was the simplest form of grilling—no fancy equipment, just skewers rotated by hand to ensure even cooking. The side closest to the fire browned quickly, while the opposite side remained raw.

As the meat sizzled, a tantalizing aroma filled the air.

Despite eating barbecue for days, Zhao Ling and Liu Erlong couldn't help but salivate.

Unexpectedly, the scent attracted six or seven ten-thousand-year-old soul beasts.

They appeared within 50 to 200 meters, drawn by the enticing smell but cautious in their approach. The beasts eyed the skewers greedily but remained vigilant of both Zhao Ling and Liu Erlong—as well as one another.

While they couldn't detect Zhao Ling's strength as a Titled Douluo, their instincts warned them against rash actions.

Liu Erlong's eyes sparkled as she nudged Zhao Ling. "Hubby, see that one-horned fire dragon? I think it would suit my martial soul perfectly."

"The One-Horned Fire Tyrannosaurus?" Zhao Ling followed her gaze to the slender red sub-dragon, flames flickering along its body. His brow arched in recognition.

He recalled this soul beast from a memory—a martial soul linked to someone from Blazing Academy. That person had a sister, Huo Wu, described as stunning, with long, wavy hair and delicate features.

Judging by the timeline, it would be at least ten years before she was born. Zhao Ling wasn't entirely sure.

Smiling, he asked Liu Erlong teasingly, "If you think this soul beast is suitable, how about I catch it for you?"

Releasing his Netherworld Demon Suppression Tower domain, Zhao Ling activated the Heaven and Earth Net.

Centered around him, the domain spanned 500 meters in all directions—a space within which no outsider could enter or leave without his consent.

Even if someone attempted to escape by force, they would find themselves inexplicably returning to the domain's center.

It was reminiscent of horror films, where fleeing a cursed room only brought the victim back inside.

However, Zhao Ling's domain wasn't invincible. He had to remain within the area for it to persist, and if an enemy killed him, the domain would collapse.

As the Heaven and Earth Net took form, an invisible barrier enveloped the area, locking the ten-thousand-year-old soul beasts inside.

Unless Zhao Ling allowed it, escaping—by flight or stealth—was impossible.
