Perfect World: Dream of the Immortal Era

Chapter 4: The True Immortal

Wang Heng was suddenly taken aback.

Interacting with a group of spiritual herbs posed no pressure to him, as the herbs posed no real threat. Even the ancient Longevity Tree, despite its extraordinary escapability, had no knowledge of combat.

This perception he had gleaned from reading 'The Perfect World.'

However, the situation was different when facing humanoid beings.

Nonetheless, he did not feel particularly flustered. Deep down, Wang Heng believed he was in a dream, and at worst, he would just awaken from it. Besides, as the noble child of the Immortal King, he assumed that he wouldn’t be troubled.

The only thing that required caution was that he had not inherited the memories of the body's former owner, leaving him unfamiliar with his surroundings. He had to rely on information from the novel, and if the secret of his divine origin was discovered, he might face unforeseen consequences.

With these thoughts, a humanoid being wrapped in immortal mist approached.

The strands of immortal mist slowly parted as if alive, revealing the face of the figure within.

In an instant, an indescribable face appeared before Wang Heng's eyes. It was a man, extraordinarily handsome, almost to the point of being otherworldly. His eyes were profoundly deep, as if they contained the ultimate truths of the universe.

Simply by meeting his gaze, Wang Heng was drawn in, standing frozen on the spot.

The next moment, the humanoid creature purposely restrained itself, and that otherworldly sensation vanished without a trace. His aura descended from the celestial realm to the mundane world, reverting to simplicity.

“My lord, you have been out gathering herbs for a long time. Did something happen?”

The man spoke, a hint of respect evident in his words.

As he finished speaking, his eyes shimmered with an immortal glow, casually glancing over Wang Heng and immediately noticing his oddity.

“There is the aura of the Longevity Fruit between your flesh and blood. It seems you have just consumed one.

My lord, as you cultivate your path, taking longevity medicines is like pulling up seedlings to help them grow; at best, it affects your foundation, at worst, it completely obliterates your path. Brother Dao, could you offer an explanation?” The man’s expression turned serious, his gaze shifting towards the Ancient Longevity Tree.

He had also detected the aberration in Wang Heng's primordial spirit, which was now more than twice as powerful as it had been. Such a terrifying increase within the span of a single cup of tea was truly unfathomable. He could only temporarily attribute it to the effects of the Longevity Fruit.

Faced with the man's inquiry, the Ancient Longevity Tree calmly responded, “Rest assured, True Immortal, the substance I gave him was merely the juice of the Longevity Fruit, not the whole fruit itself. Plus, I extracted the longevity essence in advance, retaining only the life essence and elements of heaven and earth. It will not impede his path of cultivation.”

Hearing this, the man finally felt at ease.

Wang Heng, standing nearby, was taken aback. This man was actually a True Immortal, which explained his extraordinary and mysterious aura.

Even with his essence restrained, a mere glance from the True Immortal had the power to send Wang Heng’s soul soaring beyond the heavens.

“However, I must tell you, Young Master Heng's primordial spirit encountered some problems and was on the brink of a crisis. That’s why I had him consume the longevity juice,” the Ancient Longevity Tree truthfully disclosed.

Upon hearing this, the True Immortal's gaze flickered with light and shadow intertwining as he stared directly into Wang Heng’s eyes, only moving away after a long pause.

Using his celestial methods, he had uncovered everything, and his expression shifted unpredictably.

“The Young Master has not formally embarked on the path of cultivation, yet his primordial spirit’s strength has more than doubled. This phenomenon is unheard of across the entire ancient realm.

I observe no signs of external intrusion into Young Master’s primordial spirit, and the Longevity Fruit is not known for enhancing the soul. It seems his supreme innate talent has awakened.”

In light of the Endless Immortal King's profound mastery over the primordial spirit, it was expected that his offspring would inherit this talent.

It's just that the rise happened somewhat late, and coincidentally, right before the crucial phase of cultivating one’s path, a dramatic change in the primordial spirit led to the young master’s amnesia.

In this manner, the best opportunity for cultivating the path was missed, yet considering the awakening of the primordial spirit's innate talent, it can be seen as a blessing in disguise,” the True Immortal mused to himself.

Shortly afterward, he bid farewell to the Ancient Longevity Tree and the assembly of divine herbs in the medicinal garden, intending to take Wang Heng out for a more thorough examination.

As they walked, Wang Heng followed silently behind the True Immortal, lost in rapid thought.

This dream seemed different from the ones before. Usually, when he realized he was dreaming, the dreamscape quickly turned hazy and collapsed. Yet this time, despite his awareness and even pinching himself hard, there were no signs of the dream collapsing. Instead, a sharp pain pierced through his skin.

“What is happening? Could this dream be becoming reality?” he wondered to himself, filled with confusion and disbelief.

The True Immortal, all the while observing his actions, spoke after witnessing his behavior.

“Young master, do you recall your noble name?”

Wang Heng was taken aback by the abrupt question. It reminded him of the True Immortal’s words earlier. One possibility for a sudden surge in spiritual power could be possession by someone else. Although the True Immortal verbally dismissed this, who knew what he truly thought?

He considered responding with three words—"Heng Master." Such an answer couldn't go wrong. Yet, knowing he hadn't embarked on the path of cultivation and the gap between him and a True Immortal was beyond imagination, he realized any deception or reservation might be easily detected by the Immortal.

Aside from the disparity in cultivation, Wang Heng pondered other matters. In the original legend, one of the Three Great Sword Tactics, the Primordial Spirit Sword Technique, known as the ‘Calming Chaos’, was traditionally passed down within a single line. During the Chaos Era, the herald of this technique bore the surname Wang, indicating that even in the Ancient Immortal Era, the Immortal King who used this sword technique to pacify chaos should also share this surname.

However, the Immortal King had not yet utilized this sword tactic to achieve great renown, so the technique was still called the Primordial Spirit Sword Technique, not yet known as the ‘Calming Chaos’.

Therefore, he responded, "Of course I remember, my name is Wang Heng."

The True Immortal nodded and asked, “Besides your honorable name, do you remember anything else?”

Anything else? That must refer to the memories of the body’s original owner.

With this thought, Wang Heng shook his head with a clear conscience. He hadn’t acquired even the slightest memory fragment, completely in the dark.

Next, seeking to gain some initiative, Wang Heng preemptively asked a question before the True Immortal could speak again. He was aware that as a person valued by the Immortal King, his status was far more esteemed than that of a True Immortal.

As expected, the man answered Wang Heng's questions with patience, providing insights into the current state of the Immortal King's residence.

“The Ancient Longevity Tree mentioned that my father is not in the residence. Where has he gone?”

The True Immortal replied, “The Immortal King has been invited by a friend to the frontier, which borders the foreign realm. There have been some stirrings recently, and the Immortal King's presence there serves as a significant deterrent to the foreign intruders.”
