Chapter 163: Picked up an egg—what kind of egg could it be?
Leaving Pewter City, Angie and Pawmo walked into Mt. Moon.
As long as they crossed Mt. Moon and continued north, they would reach Rota City, the one Ash had mentioned.
To the north of Mt. Moon lay an endless stretch of mountain ranges, and Rota City was hidden within those mountains.
The terrain of Mt. Moon was steep, making it difficult to climb directly, but there were many tunnels within it. As long as they passed through these tunnels, they could successfully cross Mt. Moon.
However, this didn't mean that crossing Mt. Moon was without challenges. The tunnels were home to a large number of wild Pokémon, and if you accidentally disturbed them, you would definitely be attacked.
Angie strolled along the mountain path with Pawmo hopping and skipping beside him, humming a tune that couldn't be clearly identified. It was obvious that Pawmo was in a great mood.
It was happy to be out exploring with Angie.
Along the way, they encountered Geodude, Paras, Butterfree, and other Pokémon. Pawmo greeted each of them with a smiling wave of its claws.
Of course, most wild Pokémon didn't respond and would immediately flee as soon as they saw Angie.
Occasionally, one or two Pokémon would respond absentmindedly, which would make Pawmo happy for a long time, chattering excitedly to Angie about its joy.
Seeing Pawmo so happy, Angie couldn't help but feel his mood improve as well.
Soon, Angie and Pawmo came to the first tunnel.
The tunnel was pitch black, and they couldn't see anything inside.
"Pawmo~ Pawmo~"
Pawmo quickly ran into the tunnel and then quickly ran back out, clutching its chest with a frightened expression.
"Pawmo~"
So dark, so dark!
"What's there to be afraid of? Let's go inside," Angie said with a smile.
From what Angie had read online, it was best not to use any lighting tools in the tunnels of Mt. Moon because they were home to many Zubat.
Zubat didn't like bright lights, and they were deep in sleep. If you shined a light on them, who else would they attack but you?
Who doesn't get grumpy when woken up?
Pawmo nervously grabbed Angie's pants leg and cautiously entered the tunnel, its eyes darting around.
Inside, the tunnel was not only dark but also eerily silent. Occasionally, faint sounds could be heard—the roll of pebbles, the flutter of wings...
At the slightest noise, Pawmo would jump in fright, clinging tightly to Angie's leg.
Angie chuckled, "How are you going to become strong if you acting like this?"
"Pawmo~ Pawmo~"
It's okay not to be strong today.
Pawmo replied confidently, standing its ground.
"You're always right," Angie said, shaking his head helplessly.
After walking for what felt like a long time, a glimmer of light appeared ahead.
"Pawmo~ Pawmo~"
It's the exit!
Pawmo exclaimed excitedly and immediately started running toward the light.
However, at that moment, a violent tremor suddenly shook the ground. The tunnel began to shake, and rubble and soil fell from the ceiling.
"Screech~ Screech~"
Sharp cries echoed as countless Zubat flew out of the deeper parts of the tunnel in a panic.
Clearly, the recent tremor had woken them up.
Mistaking Angie and Pawmo for the cause of the tremors, the Zubat attacked as they flew toward them.
Sonic waves reverberated through the air, giving Angie and Pawmo a painful headache.
"Pawmo~"
Pawmo angrily shouted, its body glowing with golden light. Electric snakes radiated from its center, striking the Zubat with precise hits.
These Zubat were all of low level, and one by one, they were knocked to the ground by the electric attacks.
The tremors in the cave continued, with more Zubat still flying out from deeper within the tunnel.
Seeing this, Angie quickly picked up Pawmo and ran towards the exit.
It wasn't until they come out from the cave that they managed to escape the Zubat's attacks, and Angie finally figured out where the tremors had come from.
Outside the tunnel, a Rhyperior was relentlessly smashing its head into the mountain, causing the rocks to shatter piece by piece. This was what triggered the tremors in the tunnel.
It was a completely unwarranted disaster. Angie still felt his head buzzing from the aftershocks!
If that Rhyperior kept smashing its head like that, wouldn't the tunnel collapse?
Angie was furious. He took out a Poké Ball and released Metagross. "Metagross, teach that Rhyperior a lesson!"
"Metagross~"
Metagross nodded, its four arms gleaming with metallic luster, and it used Meteor Mash to quickly charge at Rhyperior.
Upon noticing Metagross, Rhyperior let out a roar, its horn spinning rapidly as it stomped forward, charging directly at Metagross.
It was using the Ground-type move, Drill Run.
Boom!!!
With a loud crash, the two Pokémon collided.
While Rhyperior was strong, it was no match for Metagross. In a single exchange, Metagross used Meteor Mash to send it flying.
The earth shook violently as Rhyperior's massive and heavy body created a large crater upon hitting the ground.
Despite the vast difference in strength, Rhyperior didn't back down. It quickly got back up, roaring again, and launched a barrage of rocks at Metagross.
This was a Rock-type move, Rock Slide.
At that moment, Angie realized something was wrong with Rhyperior. It seemed to be... in a state of confusion.
In such a case, the only option was to defeat it.
"Metagross, take down Rhyperior!" Angie shouted.
"Metagross~"
Metagross nodded, using Agility to dodge through the falling rocks, steadily closing the distance to Rhyperior.
Once in front of Rhyperior, Metagross's four arms blurred in motion as it delivered punch after punch with Meteor Mash.
Finally, Rhyperior couldn't withstand the blows and collapsed.
Just as Angie was about to approach to check on Rhyperior, a startled cry rang out.
"Rhyperior!"
A young boy, accompanied by a Steelix, ran toward Rhyperior with worry plastered on his face.
It turned out this Rhyperior had an owner! Angie realized, understanding how it had ended up in the wild.
Angie, noticing the boy's concern, spoke up. "It's just unconscious, nothing serious."
Hearing this, the boy looked at Angie with gratitude. "Thank you for stopping Rhyperior."
Angie shook his head. "No need to thank me." He then took out some healing medicine and a berry, handing them to the boy.
"Let's treat Rhyperior's injuries, and this berry can help cure its confusion," Angie said.
"Thank you." The boy gratefully accepted the healing medicine and the berry, tending to Rhyperior's injuries while chatting with Angie.
Through their conversation, Angie was surprised to learn that the boy's name was Forrest, and he was the acting Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym.
His older brother, Brock, was the official Gym Leader but was currently training to become a Pokémon Doctor, which is why Forrest was taking on the role of acting Gym Leader in his place.
The Steelix accompanying Forrest was Brock's Pokémon, while Rhyperior was his own.
He frequently brought Steelix and Rhyperior to Mt. Moon for training.
Today, Rhyperior had been battling a wild Crobat when it was hit by a Supersonic, causing it to fall into a state of confusion.
After Rhyperior became confused, the Crobat took the opportunity to flee, and Rhyperior started running around aimlessly. Forrest almost lost track of it.
Fortunately, Angie arrived just in time to stop it.
Rhyperior wasn't seriously injured, and after using the medicine and the berry, it quickly regained consciousness. It expressed its apology to Angie for the earlier disturbance.
Since it wasn't intentional, Angie generously forgave it.
As a token of gratitude, Forrest said, "Mr. Angie, would you like a Moon Stone?"
Angie remembered the rumors online that Moon Stones could be found on Mt. Moon, so he asked, "Do you know where I can find one?"
Forrest nodded. "I accidentally found a cave where Moon Stones are located. If you'd like, I can take you there to mine one."
Angie thought of using a Moon Stone to evolve Skitty at the Nebel Plateu into Delcatty, so he nodded. "Then I'll leave it to you."
"It's no trouble," Forrest said, shaking his head. "Mr. Angie, follow me."
Forrest was very familiar with Mt. Moon, and under his guidance, Angie arrived at a hidden cave entrance.
The cave was located beneath a cliff, covered by layers of vines. Without Forrest leading the way, Angie would never have found it.
"Mr. Angie, here it is. Let's go inside," Forrest said, parting the vines.
"Okay." Angie nodded, following Forrest with Pawmo and Metagross behind him.
Inside the cave, there were no Zubat, only some Geodude and Graveler. Upon seeing Angie and his group, the Pokémon didn't approach recklessly but instead chose to keep their distance.
When they reached the deeper part of the cave, Forrest took a mining set from his backpack and handed it to Angie.
"Mr. Angie, use this."
Angie was surprised. "You bring this for training?"
Forrest scratched his head sheepishly. "Sometimes, I mine for stones to bring back as food for Rhyperior and Steelix."
"I see," Angie said with a smile as he accepted the tools.
"Let's begin," Forrest said.
Angie nodded. It was his first time mining, and with no experience, he followed Forrest's method.
Steelix, Rhyperior, Pawmo, and Metagross all lent a hand.
After a while, Forrest suddenly exclaimed, "Mr. Angie, look!"
Angie turned at the sound and saw Forrest holding up a dark gray stone. It could only be a Moon Stone!
"Did you find it already?" Angie said, surprised.
"This isn't easy to find elsewhere. I'm the only one who knows about this spot," Forrest replied, running over to Angie and handing him the Moon Stone.
Angie hesitated. "For me?"
Forrest nodded. "Yes! This is a gift for you. Besides, I have no use for it."
Forrest specialized in Rock-type Pokémon, and they didn't need a Moon Stone.
Angie thought: I can always sell it if I don't need it!
However, he accepted Forrest's kindness.
As time passed, Steelix, Rhyperior, Metagross, and Pawmo each found a Moon Stone, while Angie, the unlucky one, had found none.
They all gave their Moon Stones to Angie.
Seeing that it was getting late, Angie looked at the five or six Moon Stones in his backpack and said, "Today has been quite fruitful. Let's call it a day, or it'll get dark soon."
Even though he hadn't found a single one himself.
"Alright!" Forrest nodded in agreement. "I should head home too. My younger siblings will be worried."
Just as Angie was about to take one last scoop, an odd-looking stone suddenly fell at his feet.
"What's this..." Angie bent down to pick up the stone.
Forrest, seeing this, walked over and exclaimed in surprise, "Mr. Angie, you're really lucky! This is an ancient Pokémon fossil! If we send it to the Pewter Museum of Science, they can revive the fossil Pokémon!"
The technology for reviving ancient fossil Pokémon was now widely used, with Devon Corporation being one of the developers.
"Really?"
Although Angie had played games before, he couldn't immediately tell which Pokémon the fossil belonged to, so he simply shoved it into Forrest's arms.
"Mr. Angie?" Forrest looked at him, confused.
"Consider it a gift for you," Angie said.
"Ah?" Forrest's eyes widened. "Fossil Pokémon are very valuable."
Angie shook his head. "I don't really need it."
"But..." Forrest looked conflicted.
Angie smiled. "You gave me all the Moon Stones you found with Steelix and Rhyperior, and I didn't refuse. You shouldn't refuse either."
Hearing this, Forrest reluctantly nodded. "Well... I'll accept it. Thank you, Mr. Angie."
A revived fossil Pokémon would have the Rock-type, which was quite fitting for him.
The two of them packed up their things and left the cave with their Pokémon.
As soon as they exited the cave, Forrest bid Angie farewell.
"Mr. Angie, goodbye!"
Angie waved at Forrest. "Goodbye!"
Soon, Forrest, along with Steelix and Rhyperior, disappeared from Angie's sight.
As Angie turned his gaze back from the distance, he said to Pawmo and Metagross, "Let's go too. We should leave Mt. Moon before it gets dark."
"Metagross~"
"Pawmo~"
Metagross and Pawmo responded.
However, before Angie could take a step, he saw Pawmo pushing a round ball forward.
Angie was stunned. "Pawmo, what's that? Where did it come from?"
"Pawmo~"
I found it in the cave!
Saying this, Pawmo brought the object over to Angie.
Angie took it and looked closely. It wasn't a ball at all, but clearly an egg. Judging by the aura it radiated, this egg was still very lively.
The egg was pink, with purple markings in the center, and smoky patterns at both ends. Angie thought for a long time but couldn't figure out which Pokémon it belonged to.
Fearing that Pawmo might play with it too roughly, Angie said, "I'll take care of this egg for now."
With that, he bought an incubator from the system shop and placed the egg inside.
Pawmo didn't mind. It wasn't particularly interested in playing with the egg, so once Angie took it, it happily hopped ahead.
Angie wrapped the incubator in a cloth and strapped it to his back, then followed Pawmo and Metagross as they walked out of Mt. Moon.
Before it got completely dark, the three of them exited the mountain.
They found a suitable valley for camping, and Angie said, "Let's rest here for the night!"
"Metagross~"
"Pawmo~"
Metagross and Pawmo nodded, and then together with Angie, they set up the tent.
