In front of another Pokémon egg, Jack took a deep breath. If he really couldn't find a Pokémon with better qualifications, he would have to consider the Pidgey in front of him. He shook his head, clearing away distracting thoughts.

Focusing on the Pokémon egg in front of him, Jack suddenly widened his eyes as the information for the Pokémon egg appeared before him:

A surge of ecstatic emotion welled up in Jack's heart. A Psyduck with five-star qualification that inherited [Aqua Tail]? Such a rarity would surely be sought after by many.

Without hesitation, Jack hugged the Pokémon egg close and walked toward the front desk. He stopped searching altogether; obtaining this Psyduck was already a stroke of incredible luck. There was no need to be greedy.

At the front desk, Jack handed the Pokémon egg to the receptionist.

"Hello, I'd like to purchase this Pokémon egg!" he said eagerly.

"Of course. That'll be 80,000 Pokédollars. Will you be paying in cash or by mobile payment?" the receptionist asked with a polite smile.

"Mobile payment!" Jack replied without a second thought, his attention completely absorbed by the Pokémon egg.

As the sound of the payment confirmation chimed, Jack briefly felt his heart sink at the deduction of 80,000 Pokédollars. It had taken him nearly two years of hard work to save up that amount. But holding the Pokémon egg in his arms, his determination solidified—this was just the beginning.

"Psyduck, use Water Gun!"

In a dense jungle, a young man commanded a yellow duck-like Pokémon with tiny pupils, a flat mouth, and three black hairs on its head. The Pokémon directed its attack toward a large tree.

"Quack!" Psyduck unleashed a powerful jet of water, hitting the tree head-on and knocking it down.

"Great work, Psyduck!" Jack praised, his voice filled with pride.

"Quack!" Psyduck quacked in delight at the compliment from its Trainer.

Appearing in this jungle is Jack, who has officially become a certified Pokémon Alliance Trainer, accompanied by his Psyduck.

Two months ago, Jack left with Psyduck's Pokémon egg carefully cradled in his arms and headed straight for the nearest Pokémon Center. Pokémon Centers, global medical facilities under the Pokémon Alliance, cater to the care and training needs of Pokémon Trainers worldwide.

After half a month of anticipation, Psyduck successfully hatched.

Jack then registered Psyduck with the Pokémon Alliance, officially becoming a Trainer. He received a basic Trainer's kit, including six standard Poké Balls and a Pokédex. After signing the wilderness survival notice, he wasted no time and ventured straight into the suburbs.

He packed essential survival supplies, including a tent, food, and equipment for wilderness living, in his space-efficient backpack. His Pokédex was stored safely within, though Jack rarely found it necessary to use.

Eventually, Jack made his way to a large forest near Zenith—the Forest of Clouds and Mists. While he hadn't initially planned such an immediate excursion, the series of expenses—buying the Pokémon egg, registering at the Pokémon Center, gathering supplies—had drained his savings from three years of hard work. Penniless but determined, Jack pressed forward.

During this time, Jack bonded with Psyduck and began training it. Unbeknownst to him, he gradually moved deeper into the Cloud Forest, away from its outer edges.

After finishing a training session, Jack and Psyduck found a small clearing to rest. Checking the time, Jack realized it was already past 6 p.m. The summer evening was slow to arrive, but the dim hues of dusk were now visible. Deciding to set up camp, Jack retrieved his tent from his backpack.

In no time, the tent was erected, and Jack expanded the camp area, scattering repellents to ward off snakes and insects. While wild Pokémon were abundant, the presence of regular animals in this world meant extra precautions were necessary. Jack also set up a few traps around the campsite.

After preparing a serving of energy cubes for Psyduck, Jack heated his own self-heating meal and began to eat. Watching Psyduck eat beside him, seemingly lost in thought, Jack smiled. He pondered his future path as he dined.

By now, universities had already commenced their academic year. With access to exclusive resources like rare Pokémon and secret realms, university-trained Trainers often had an undeniable advantage. While there were exceptions—prodigies who emerged independently—the structured education system typically produced stronger Trainers than those rising from grassroots.

Jack's Psyduck, however, was a remarkable exception. With five-star qualification, it far outclassed the standard Pokémon issued by the Alliance, which typically held three-star qualifications, with four-star Pokémon being exceptionally rare. Psyduck's elite status matched the Pokémon prepared by powerful organizations for their core members. With proper training, Psyduck had the potential to become an Elite-tier Pokémon.

Determined to maintain a high standard, Jack resolved to build a team of similarly exceptional Pokémon and take a long-term approach to his journey.

Night had fallen completely. The flickering light from Courtney cast shadows across the clearing, with Jack and Psyduck's forms stretching long and dark. The silent forest was occasionally punctuated by eerie noises, making the atmosphere unsettling.

Jack frowned and quickly turned off Courtney's light before retreating into the tent. He called to Psyduck, still outside, "Thank you, Psyduck."

"Quack!" Psyduck responded cheerfully, following Jack into the tent and settling down to rest near the entrance.

In the wild, it's critical to extinguish lights at night. While lights might repel ordinary animals, they can also reveal your location to hostile humans or dangerous Pokémon. Likewise, keeping at least one Pokémon outside its Poké Ball is essential for protection. If attacked unexpectedly, releasing a Pokémon in time might prove impossible.
