Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Sweetness of Combee
After Rax finished explaining, both Beldum and Marowak seemed to be in deep thought.
Beldum, who had been overly energetic earlier, now looked at the weak Seedot and completely lost the desire to fight.
"Of course, sometimes your opponent may only pretend to be weak. Once you engage in battle, you must always give it your all," Rax added. The two Pokémon nodded in understanding.
With this guidance, Rax left the rest for them to gradually comprehend during their training.
On the journey that followed, Beldum still darted around energetically. However, when it encountered wild Pokémon, it began to observe carefully. It only initiated fights with opponents it deemed challenging or unfamiliar.
This approach made their journey much smoother.
---
Four days later, Rax and his Pokémon climbed an unmarked hill and were greeted by a stunning sea of flowers that stretched as far as the eye could see. Scattered huts dotted the scene, adding a rustic charm.
Rax had thought the flower fields around Floaroma Town were impressive, but this view was truly spectacular.
He couldn't help but wonder: How much more breathtaking must the flower fields of Pallet Town's famous gardens be?
One day, he'd have to visit.
"Beldum, you've had your fill of fun these past few days. Time to return to your Poké Ball and absorb the experience," Rax said.
"Beep~"
Beldum nodded obediently and was recalled into its Poké Ball. Rax and Marowak continued towards the village ahead.
---
Two hours later, they crossed the sea of flowers and saw flower farmers tending their fields.
"Excuse me, sir, is Floaroma Town just ahead if we keep walking?" Rax asked an old farmer.
"Yes, yes, just another hour," the old man replied. When he noticed Marowak beside Rax, his expression became more respectful.
"We just harvested fresh honey. Why not come in for a glass of honey water and rest a bit before continuing?" the old farmer offered.
Rax hesitated, but Marowak took a step forward instinctively.
Hmm? Rax was puzzled. Marowak wasn't usually one for sweets. Could this honey be made by Combee?
"If it's no trouble..."
"No trouble at all! This way!"
---
The old man served two glasses of honey water.
"This is honey brewed by Combee in my flower field. It's excellent for relieving fatigue," the old man explained.
Rax sipped the honey water cautiously.
Ahhh~
The rich, floral sweetness danced on his taste buds without being cloying. A warm sensation spread from his stomach, melting away the exhaustion of the past few days.
He glanced at Marowak, who was now sprawled lazily in a chair, utterly relaxed—a rare sight for the stoic Pokémon.
---
The honey was no ordinary product. Rax couldn't help but ask, "Old man, do you sell this honey?"
"Of course! Raising Combee isn't easy, though. Most of the honey is reserved for our own use, so it's a bit pricey," the old man admitted.
"Will it cost more than the honey sold in town?"
"The same quality? Definitely cheaper here!"
Rax ended up buying 30 kilograms of premium Combee honey for 15,000 Pokécoins.
The cost stung a little, but he knew the honey's value—for both travel fatigue and as a wild Pokémon attractant.
---
Rax confirmed in town that the price was fair. Satisfied, he stayed overnight at the Pokémon Center, giving Marowak and Beldum some well-deserved rest.
The next morning, energized and prepared, they continued south.
The sea of flowers extended beyond Floaroma Town, a place of peace and beauty where Oddish, Budew, and Combee roamed freely.
When Beldum was released, it eagerly scanned the area but dismissed weaker opponents with disdain.
---
As Rax admired the scenery, a sudden gust stirred the flower field. Oddish Pokémon rose with the wind, their joyful singing filling the air.
But then, a shadow darted in, swiftly grabbing an Oddish and attempting to flee.
Rax's serene moment was abruptly interrupted.
"What the—?"
Marowak immediately leapt into action.
