Pokémon: The Renegade Trainer

The incident was cleaned up by Officer Jenny in collaboration with the Pokémon rangers.

A total of 27 Bin gang members were arrested, while the man named Scout went missing. The boss and his Drapion were detained, charged with multiple cases of Pokémon trafficking and Kidnapping.

They were naturally sentenced to prison of the highest security.

The named Mastermind, Diego, was later detained by the Jubilife city police soon after. This news made the headlines, the talk of the southwestern part of Sinnoh.

Maguro stood trial, but was deemed innocent with the vouch of the Pearl and Eterna clans. The kidnapping incident simply overshadowed his old chateau case with Ruiz, the man was simply ignored.

At present, they were in the Eterna city gym.

"I think I'll stay here. Going out on a journey is nice and all, but I think I'll prepare myself before I go out on my own."

Maguro nodded at Gardenia, who was sitting on Iizumi's lap as she combed her orange hair.

"By the way, how's your sister?" Asked the green haired lady.

"Well, it's been hectic, politics y'know. Big sis Moriya said she needs to blow off some steam by taking on a challenger."

"That explains the battle. I wonder who she's up against."

Just in time, two doors slammed open.

On the left door emerged a beautiful blonde girl with a fierce look, which only looked cute because of the smudge of vanilla ice cream on her cheek.

From the right door exited a woman with a calm demeanor. She looked pretty, except for the eye bags that told everyone of her recent sleepless nights, as well as a fudge on her chin.

""I made it on time!""

Cynthia and Moriya shouted as they stepped forward on the grassy battlefield.

""You've something on your face.""

""Eh??""

Maguro was shocked by how in sync these two were while Iizumi and Gardenia just laughed.

Even as they took their pocket mirrors and wiped the desserts, Cynthia and Moriya were in sync.

"Big sis also turns to cake when things get stressful." Informed Gardenia.

"It must be hell seeing as she needs both coping mechanisms." Maguro caressed Murkrow, who was resting on his lap.

The gym referee facepalmed as she thought, 'This is just ridiculous.'

"The gym challenge will now begin! Trainers, take your positions.

"The battle will be between challenger Cynthia and Gym leader Moriya for the second gym badge.

It will be a three on three and both trainers are to use Advanced level Pokémon. However, all Pokémon in the battle will not exceed the level 40.

"Both trainers are allowed to substitute Pokémon, but only once. With that out of the way, let the battle begin!"

Moriya smiled, "I won't be holding back, so give me a good battle will ya?"

"Of course!"

Two Pokéballs were thrown at the same time, and a Leafeon wearing a Silk-Scarf and a Gliscor took the field.

"Hey isn't that the same Leafeon you battled, Maguro? How is she able to level it up while handling everything else?"

"It's the same yes, but you should look at the battlefield more carefully."

Through high-tech innovations, the gyms, as well as other official stadiums such as the Sinnoh league are enveloped by an energy that will limit all Pokémon to a certain level.

Not only does this limiter act to ensure fairness, it's also a great security factor.

Because with just a click, any marked ally Pokémon can release their limiters to overpower any intruder that tries to take advantage of the limiter.

However, it cannot give power-ups to the weaker Pokémon.

"Gliscor, [Swords dance]!"

Cynthia had been studying Moriya during the week to prepare for this battle. However, she was wrong in thinking that a stressed out Moriya would use her standard strategy.

"Leafeon, use [Swords dance]!"

Cynthia was startled, but gathered herself as she commanded "[Taunt]!"

Leafeon, who had already boosted itself with the four ethereal swords surrounding it, started to rush towards Gliscor that was hovering above it.

'She evolved her Gligar, and even increased its potential in just a week.' Though he had been working as hard, Maguro had to admit that Cynthia had made more progress than him.

He could only dream of having the league hand over Top-Grade items for free, not knowing that she was rewarded for her exploits during the Ursaluna and kidnapping incidents.

Moriya wasn't slacking off either, "[Bullet seed]!"

Small round projectiles were launched from Leafeon's mouth. Some nailed Gliscor, while some were evaded as it glided towards the grass type.

"[Aerial Ace]!"

"[Giga Impact]!"

Moriya wanted to eliminate this flying type as soon as possible, recognizing it as a threat. And with Cynthia using [Aerial Ace], it was luring itself in for free.

And sure enough, the collision ended in a double knock out. But just as the referee was about to make a call, the Grass type Eeveelution got up.

"Gliscor is unable to battle, challenger Cynthia must send out her next Pokémon."

'She miscalculated.' reading the distressed expression on Cynthia's face, Maguro mused.

And he almost couldn't believe his eyes when Cynthia sent out her next Pokémon.

Even Iizumi was perplexed, "Doesn't she know that Gastrodon is 4x weak to Grass?"

Hearing this remark, Cynthia declared. "Gastrodon may be weak to Grass, but I will become the strongest Ground type trainer!"

"Haha! I like your guts, let's put that to the test. Leafeon, [Leaf blade]!"

"End this with [Muddy water]!"

As the trainers called out their commands, a large wave immediately enveloped the field, taking out the weakened Leafeon.

"Leafeon is unable to battle, Gym leader Moriya must send out her next Pokémon!"

"Let's change up the pace, shall we?"

A mischievous smile formed on the gym leader's face. With a click, her next Pokémon took the field.

"Well, she raised the bar." Gardenia said as she saw Roserade.

But Cynthia seemed to know this as she tensed up a bit. An ominous feeling took over her, and she tried her best to hide it.

"Gastrodon, keep calm and follow the plan. Let's go [Ice beam]!"

"Roserade, [Petal dance]!"

"Roserade!" The rose-like Pokémon began evading the pulse of Ice-energy as it elegantly waved itself through the field.

'This might be bad for Cynthia.' Maguro caught on Moriya's crazy strategy.

Sakura petals started to swirl as Roserade continued its dance, gliding through the cold field of Ice. And soon enough, it had built enough momentum to be a Petal tornado.

"Gastrodon, [Blizzard]!"

Roserade became disoriented after throwing a full-on sakura storm to its opponent from all the energy it gathered from [Petal dance].

And with a hidden Lum berry, it overcame it's confusion.

Meanwhile, [Blizzard] collided with a concentrated [Petal dance]. Both moves were clashing and the latter pushed back the former.

But Cynthia wasn't fazed. She thoroughly planned Gastrodon to fight against Grass types ever since she caught it.

"Freeze it!"

"Gastrodon!"

Following the command, Gastrodon's eyes gleamed blue as dark clouds gathered, summoning a strong rain.

[Rain dance] reacted to the big storm, and [Blizzard] caused the waters to turn into Ice. This caused the strong swirl of [Petal dance] to spread out and a hailstorm whipped up because of this.

Roserade couldn't see anything, and Cynthia was in the perfect position to spam [Blizzard] now. She knew that [Rain dance] and [Blizzard] could cause a hail, but the addition of [Petal dance] sped up the process.

Realizing this was her goal, Moriya was eager to thaw it literally. "[Sunny day]!"

However, Gastrodon's talent lied in its speed in casting its moves...

"[Blizzard]!"
