Pokémon: Trail of Ultimate Champion

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The Cause

Toshi found that this Sableye was currently in a state of unconsciousness.

"Strange, how could there be a Sableye here? Could it be someone's Pokémon? If that were the case, its Trainer would certainly be looking for it!"

Toshi scanned the area but didn't see anyone fitting that description.

"Looks like this Sableye is wild? It must have accidentally wandered in here and was caught in the aftermath of the battle, which caused it to lose the ability to fight and end up here?"

Toshi thought to himself that he was quite lucky to find a Pokémon like this.

Setting aside Dragon-type Pokémon, Ghost-type Pokémon are among the rarest, second only to Psychic types, particularly when it comes to the difficulty of finding and catching them in the wilderness.

Taking an empty red-and-white Poké Ball from his backpack, Toshi planned to capture this Sableye first.

He threw the Poké Ball at Sableye, but unexpectedly, it ricocheted off without capturing the Sableye.

"This Sableye has a Trainer?"

Toshi was startled. Trying to capture someone else's Pokémon was quite impolite, so he quickly glanced around to ensure no one was watching him before he breathed a sigh of relief.

"But this is strange. If this Sableye has a Trainer here, why wouldn't they come looking for it? Unless..."

After pondering for a moment, he took another Poké Ball from his backpack and aimed it at Sableye again.

This time, Sableye was successfully captured in the Poké Ball.

"Success!"

He quickly placed the Poké Ball back in his backpack.

Indeed, this Poké Ball was the one he had obtained from Yamamoto earlier, the one that hadn't recalled a Pokémon.

"I didn't expect that thin guy really left a Pokémon here. How lucky that I found it!"

As Toshi reveled in his luck, lines of data suddenly appeared before him.

It was Sableye data, just like Butterfree's!

"Hmm? Does this mean this Sableye is now mine? Why didn't it show up earlier?"

Toshi found this strange, so he tried taking another Poké Ball from Yamamoto in his hand.

In an instant, more lines of data appeared before him.

"Really?"

He thought for a moment; it should be because Yamamoto had already died, so the Trainer of these Pokémon was changed from Yamamoto to him. This also explained why he hadn't seen the data before.

Toshi smiled and said, "That's good news."

However, now wasn't the time to check Yamamoto's Pokémon data.

Half an hour later, Toshi had essentially explored all the places he could in the area. He hadn't seen anything particularly surprising; just some scenes involving experiments on Pokémon. Having seen similar things in many reports before, he felt a bit disappointed.

"Officer Jenny, do you think I can head back now?" Toshi asked Jenny, who was busy checking documents nearby.

"Sure, Toshi Trainer. It's getting late, so you can go back now, but please stop by the police station tomorrow afternoon. We still need to take a statement, and since you successfully dismantled an Inkoutou experiment base, your contribution is significant. Once I discuss it with everyone, we will issue the compensation for this operation in the form of a League task reward."

Toshi's eyes brightened. "There's compensation?"

Jenny smiled. "Of course! For actions like dismantling underground dark forces, we always provide a reward. This is a direct support for Trainers and shows the League's unwavering hatred toward dark forces."

"I see." Toshi nodded, realizing this could indeed encourage many Trainers to engage in combating underground forces.

After that, Toshi bid Jenny farewell and left.

While exploring the base, he had already figured out the reason why Satou Kenji could hear strange noises; it was all the work of the Inkoutou.

The laboratory deep within the base wasn't far from Satou Kenji's home, so whenever the Inkoutou were conducting experiments here, Satou Kenji could potentially hear the sounds coming from underground.

Because of this, Satou Kenji couldn't locate the source of the noise.

"I didn't expect that what I thought was just a simple task would unexpectedly reveal the truth behind the train incident and allow me to take down an Inkoutou base in one fell swoop," Toshi said with a smile, shaking his head. "What a coincidence!"

Before Toshi had left, Satou Kenji had already told him that if he hadn't found anything by tonight, he could rest in the guest room of his house. So the door was only slightly ajar, and Toshi could simply push it open to enter.

Toshi estimated that Satou Kenji was likely awake at this moment, so he planned to inform him about what had just happened and clarify the details of the task.

He didn't expect that as soon as he pushed the door open, he would see Satou Kenji sitting upright on the sofa.

"Grandpa Satou Kenji, I didn't expect you to still be awake!"

Satou Kenji said slowly, "With such a loud noise outside, how could I not hear it? Toshi, tell me what happened out there. Why do I also hear the sound of police cars?"

Toshi sat down next to Satou Kenji. "Grandpa Satou Kenji, it's like this..."

At that moment, Toshi recounted the events to Satou Kenji, omitting the part about killing Yamamoto and stealing the perfect quality Pokémon.

After listening to Toshi's account, Satou Kenji couldn't help but exclaim, "I didn't expect that... I really didn't!"

"Grandpa Satou Kenji, I didn't expect so much would happen tonight either."

Satou Kenji turned his gaze to Toshi. "You kid, how can you act without thinking of the consequences? What if you were discovered by the Inkoutou? If something happened to you, how would I face you? If you were like my son..."

Toshi said softly, "Grandpa Satou Kenji, I promise I won't take risks again. If I encounter something like this again, I will immediately notify Officer Jenny to handle it. I won't act on my own!"

"Ah," Satou Kenji sighed. "I know that you young people always think you can accomplish great things, so you don't consider the consequences. But Toshi, as someone who has been through it, I don't want you to make the same mistakes my son did!"

Toshi saw the genuine concern on Satou Kenji's face and understood that this elderly person truly cared for him, which is why he repeatedly advised him.

He seriously said to Satou Kenji, "Rest assured, I will always keep your words in mind!"

"That's good, that's good!" Satou Kenji nodded.

Then Toshi looked at the time and said, "Grandpa Satou Kenji, it's getting late. Since everything is settled, you should get some rest. We can discuss anything tomorrow."

"Alright, you've had a long night too, so you should rest early as well."

Toshi stood up. "Grandpa, let me help you back."
