Raising the Elf’s Genius Slayer

Chapter 42

Chapter

As soon as Yonia and Enok exited the forest, they headed towards the city that came into view. In retrospect, most of the areas near the forest are cities. At least, that’s how it was during Enok’s past visits.

Is there really anything that would attract people to gather around here? Can all these people really come together just from the forest’s byproducts? Thinking such thoughts, they stepped inside the city.

“This is a human city…”

Yonia looked around curiously. It seems she had no time for sightseeing before because she was captured.

Enok, understanding this, pulled down Yonia’s hood a bit lower.

“Ouch…! Be gentle!”

“I told you to keep it covered. It might be troublesome if they figure out you’re an elf.”

“Ah, it’s fine as long as they don’t catch me!”

Yonia complained, but it was a valid point, so Enok silently stuffed his bag with necessary supplies.

There were so many people in the market that it felt bothersome today. It seemed best to quickly buy what they needed and move on.

“Sure, the appearance is quite different, but since it’s a place where people live, it’s not that much different from the Elf Union.”

“There’s one huge difference.”

“What’s that? You’re not gonna say something weird, are you?”

“Elves live there and humans live here. That’s a very big difference. Always keep that in mind.”

“…I mean, that makes sense, but it still sounds kinda strange.”

Have I become so accustomed to his nonsense? Yonia grumbled but suddenly realized something and perked up.

“Ah!”

“Huh?”

“No wonder it felt a bit off.”

Yuck, Yonia grimaced as she fiddled with her fingers.

“I forgot my bow.”

“Just buy one. You have a decent amount of money.”

“No. It’s better to make it myself than to buy one.”

She plans to make it herself if she can find a good piece of wood. As for the bowstring, she figured she could use a bit of her hair to make it. Truly elven—her hair is superior even to humans.

“Then let’s just grab some more food and get out of here… hiss!”

Suddenly, Enok’s eyes widened. He felt a chill from a passerby and then, suddenly, a dagger appeared.

“Oh ho, nice reaction!”

He dodged nimbly, but not completely. Grabbing his side that was now bleeding profusely, Enok glared at the passerby.

It was a woman with brown skin and ash-colored hair. She was skilled at hiding her intent and, considering her speed, was adept at ambushes. An assassin? No, she seemed too high-class for that.

“Hey, hey! Are you okay?”

Yonia rushed up to Enok in a panic. But Enok raised a hand to stop her. There was no point in fighting a foe that required him to protect Yonia too.

“…You deal with the other guys.”

“Uh, wait? What do you mean…?”

Swish! A dagger flew toward Yonia. Reacting immediately, she snatched the dagger and smoothly moved as if gliding.

She arrived right in front of the startled man who threw the dagger. An elf’s blade was plunged into his chin.

Thud! With a sound, the man was sent flying. As the fight broke out, townspeople hurriedly sought cover. Those who remained were likely enemies. Enok’s eyes turned icy as he found himself surrounded.

“Ugh….”

Is she using poison or something? His vision was hazy. When he glared at the ash-haired woman, she chuckled.

“Too bad, Adolf, who should be rushing here, is missing out. Looks like I’ll catch you instead.”

“…….”

“My name is Gray. It’s only proper to know the name of your opponent before heading to the underworld, little boy.”

Gray licked the bloodied dagger. Is that poison on it? Enok thought to himself as he steadied his body.

“Well then, bye-bye.”

Gray ducked and suddenly closed in. With his blurred vision from the poison, Enok chased after her, but she was already right in front of him. Without hesitation, he unleashed the energy from his Central Dantian.

Zzziiin────────!!!

Lightning streaked down around him. He saw Gray hurriedly dodging. Enok was only able to discern that much with his foggy mind.

‘…Isn’t it about that time?’

Though it’s not on a regular cycle, there are moments when the madness of Heavenly Death surges overwhelmingly. He hadn’t alleviated it for a while, perhaps stimulated by this encounter, something seemed poised to burst forth.

What is this, some kind of cycle? It was like a thought that suddenly came to him; he never noticed any signs of that with Rionne. Enok is sensitive to the smell of blood. He can tell even a drop of blood from far away. But why had he never caught her scent?

‘…Could it be?’

Is Rionne now too old to bear children? Well, it didn’t matter much to him. After all, he wasn’t particularly fond of kids.

As long as she didn’t hear this, Enok casually prepared to unleash his False Thunder God Transformation more powerfully than usual.

Kiiing───────

A halo appeared over his head. Wisps of electric wings unfurled from his back, and his previously dark eyes turned purple.

“What, what the hell? Is that like a secret technique or something? That’s pretty terrifying.”

Gray seemed slightly flustered. Enok converted all the mana and blood in his body into electric energy, detoxifying the poison as well.

“Hoo….”

As he exhaled, purple lightning spread like mist. The poison was neutralized, but his mind still felt foggy. With a third flower blooming on his back, when the purple lightning turned blood-violet from the madness of Heavenly Death—

“…Let’s finish this quickly.”

Enok’s transformation vanished. Gray instantly reacted, twisting her body and swinging her dagger.

Bang────!!

At the moment their attacks clashed, Gray’s body was sent up into the air.

“Ugh…! How did it change that quickly?!”

Until just moments ago, Gray held the upper hand in most respects, but at the use of that strange technique, the situation flipped in an instant.

Instead of panicking, Gray calmly attempted to regain her stance in mid-air.

Then, in a flash────────!!

The power of Heavenly Carnage Thunder God Technique activated. The magic cast simultaneously engulfed Gray.

“Ugh…! You’re just some worthless punk…!”

Gray enveloped her entire body with energy, withstanding it, then kicked off the ground and vanished between the buildings. In an instant, she vanished from detection. Enok’s eyes sparked with realization.

“Not so good at hiding, are you?”

Thanks to the Ki Sense honed from Rionne, as soon as he sensed her faint presence, dozens of magic circles arose behind Enok.

“Strike down!”

Boom! With the incantation, dozens of lightning bolts descended. Faint screams echoed from the nearby alley.

Enok slammed the ground. What appeared before his eyes was Gray, her body scorched. She glared at him in anger, gathering her energy.

“What the hell…!”

Swooosh—, a mist-like aura enveloped her body. The faint starlight lingered in the mist. The aura wrapped around her became extremely faint.

But she was already within Enok’s sight. There was no way he could miss her. With his fist clenched tightly, he united his arts.

Heavenly Carnage Thunder God Technique.

He integrated his martial arts. Which meant the boundaries of his means were gone. Sword, spear, fist, foot—he wasn’t restricted by anything.

Carnage – Unification.

He unleashed a single punch, gathering countless energies. Instead of a point, it struck an area.

Destructive Blast.

The space before Enok exploded brilliantly, the radiant purple lightning erupting loudly.

Boom─────!!!!

Part of the city was swept away. Gray, caught in that strike, was nowhere to be found. However, Enok’s expression remained unchanged. He knew he had lost his prey.

“Hah….”

His fading awareness warned him. If the fight dragged on any longer, he could end up self-destructing like when he fought the Master of the Forest.

Currently, there were no major issues as he substituted part of his False Thunder God Transformation with the Energy Sphere, but once the rapidly dissipating Energy Sphere was exhausted, his body would begin to burn up immediately.

The fact was that he was already sustaining minor injuries due to the intensified False Thunder God Transformation.

“Don’t hide, come out.”

Boom! Enok’s gaze caught the silhouettes of two figures rising into the sky. One was Gray, her body half-burnt. The other was Adolf, who had just barely saved her.

“Just a bunch of pests.”

Electricity crackled around Enok.

*

As Yonia exited the city, she incapacitated the pursuing enemies one by one.

She rolled on the ground to dodge a dagger, tripped one, and struck another in the face. Sweeping her leg across the ground, she knocked down two more and swiftly fled.

“Stop her!”

The guards at the gate stood in her way, but she swiftly evaded them with her agile movements and dashed into the forest.

“Ugh…!”

“Intruder! Ring the bell!”

Yonia glanced back to see pursuers swiftly cutting down the guards and hot on her tail.

She bit her lip. Without hesitation, they cut down their kin? Do humans lack affection for their own kind?

“Scatter!”

With a command, the pursuers split up. While she understood the intention, against elves? Last time, she had been caught due to an unexpected strong enemy and her complacency, but not this time.

Quickly climbing up a tree, Yonia snapped a nearby branch.

“Hoo… this girl is troublesome. It ends here.”

The pursuers gathered under the tree, looking as if she’d backed herself into a corner. But Yonia remained cold-faced, saying nothing. Instead, she cut off a portion of her hair and swiftly fashioned it into a bow from the branch.

“Yeah, I guess that kid was right.”

Was it foolish to sympathize with the enemy? At least, she couldn’t deny that it was true regarding these foes.

Thud, thud, she held a few thin branches she had snapped. The pursuers slowly surrounded her. The elf wore a smirk on her lips.

“Are you just going to watch an elf wield a bow? You fools.”

Squeak—, the thin branches were drawn back into the bowstring.

Piiing—!

It was shot like a beam of light.
