Chapter 4: The Headmaster
The walk to Ozpin's office was long. This Academy he found himself in was massive and filled with many students and teachers who all spared glances towards Reaper. He could tell they were intimidated by his presence, yet it didn't mind him. He honestly did not care if they feared him or not. It mattered not to him. All he cared about was getting information. However, the academy did have an aura to it. It felt secure, calm, and peaceful. But Reaper could tell that sense of security could be shattered if someone played their cards right.
After all, Talon did the same thing to many people. Wars are so easily started as man will fight over the littlest of things. Resources, Disagreements, and Ideology to name a few. Overwatch's mission was to keep peace. What a fantasy now. Reaper then began to reflect on his time in Overwatch. There were sometimes when they were successful. After all, they ended the Omnic Crisis and did keep the peace for a time. When Overwatch fell, that's when things really hit the fan.
He then thinks about his time in Talon. Everything he did went against a goal he once shared with others. Others he called friends. He clenches his fists as he thinks about this. He's a fool. But he's gone too far to stop now. He's still linked to Talon and his crimes will never be forgiven nor forgotten. He's done too much to simply forget about it all. They eventually reach a large tower that catches his attention. He slowly lifted his head as he took in the sheer size of the tower.
It was either important or someone was compensating for something. Jokes aside, he notices that Ozpin is taking him to an elevator. He expected to wait for the elevator, but all Ozpin did was press a button and it opened. Must not have been in use. Reaper follows Ozpin inside the elevator and with the press of a button, the doors close and they begin to climb the tower within the elevator.
The trip up was quiet, Ozpin didn't try to start a conversation, and Reaper didn't bother to either. While he didn't like how quiet it was, he dealt with it. After a while he finally heard a ding which indicated that they finally arrived. The doors slide open and reveal Ozpin's office. At least what Reaper assumes is his office. Ozpin takes the lead as he steps into the room with Reaper following behind. Reaper looks around the room and sees that there's an obvious clock theme, he even hears the ticking of a large clock above them. Ozpin arrives at his desk and sits down in his chair while Reaper just stands in front of the desk silently.
"So, you wish to know where in the world you are." Ozpin said, getting straight to the point.
"Correct." Reaper confirmed.
"You are in the Kingdom of Vale, on the continent of Sanus, which is located in the center of most maps." Ozpin explains.
Reaper was confused. Continent of Sanus? He's never heard about that continent before. In fact, he doesn't think that even exists. It frustrates him a bit because he's back at square one. No idea where he is and all information, he's been given isn't helpful. He must be on Earth, so he didn't get teleported away. At least, he doesn't think so. Ozpin notices Reaper's confusion so he pressed a button on his desk to project a hologram behind him. Reaper sees this and looks around before turning around to see the map. It didn't look like any map he's ever seen. These must be small islands, but then again, Ozpin said continent not island.
"This is the world map of Remnant, which I believe should help you determine your location." Ozpin said.
Wait, world map? This caught his attention.
"What is this planet's name?" Reaper asks, looking over his shoulder.
"Remnant." Ozpin answered with slight confusion.
That's not normal. Is he on a different planet? As stupid as that may sound, it's the conclusion he's reaching with the information he's been given. But there is one thing that could set that in stone for him.
"Do you know about an organization named Overwatch?" Reaper asks as he turned around to face Ozpin.
"Can't say I do." Ozpin answered honestly.
That's that. While he doesn't want to admit such a stupid concept, it seems like he might actually be on a different world. But the question remains, how did he get here? He also remembered that when he looked into a lake, he appeared younger, not significantly younger, he's still an adult. But it's enough to notice. Something supernatural was at play. While he wouldn't normally go to such conclusions, the evidence he's been given makes him believe this.
"Are you okay?" Ozpin asks.
"You wouldn't believe me if I explained my situation." Reaper stated.
"I've heard many wild stories and believed some." Ozpin said, calmly. "Very little surprises me now a days."
"Very well." Reaper said.
He then went into detail explaining his situation. He did leave out some information such as his involvement in Talon, and everything else before his arrival. All he told Ozpin was that he almost died in battle and then woke up in a forest in this strange new world. Ozpin listened to everything Reaper had to say and took it all in. He's heard some wild stories, but this one is definitely a new height limit. Going from one world to another seems like a fantasy topic, but given Ozpin's experiences, it isn't the weirdest thing he's seen or heard. Anything could happen in this great Universe they live in.
"And now you know." Reaper said, ending his explanation.
Ozpin sat there processing the information before he gave a response.
"I'll admit, that is definitely a wild story." Ozpin said. "But it isn't the weirdest I've ever heard."
"Whether you believe me or not, I could care less." Reaper said, bluntly.
"I never said I didn't believe you. It's just a concept that is only seen in most fiction." Ozpin explains. "While your situation is indeed a unique one, I can tell you're not lying."
Reaper just stood there, internally thankful that it went well. But he could tell Ozpin wasn't done.
"However. Due to the limited information I have on you, I've elected to give you a small ounce of trust." Ozpin said.
"How can I gain your full trust?" Reaper asked.
He wanted his trust, so he at least had someone to consider an ally. Being alone isn't strategically advantageous for him right now. He needs information and allies in order to survive in this new world called Remnant.
"By proving to me you're not a threat. But rest assured, I will give you opportunities to earn my trust. Consider it an evaluation of your skills and intentions." Ozpin explained.
While he didn't want to be tested by anyone, he's going to go along with it. He needs allies for this new world and it's best if he goes along with it so he can gain at least an ally in Ozpin. He needs to take things slow, so he doesn't screw it up and make any unwanted enemies. One step at a time.
