Chapter 59 - Building Walls
Due to everyone drinking too much yesterday, most people woke up late today. Only Tian Hai got up early to help Sister Pan prepare breakfast for everyone.
Bai Qi was in a great mood as she pulled Tang Ruo and others to eat breakfast together.
After breakfast, they proceeded with their previous plan and energetically began building walls.
Before they started building, there was one more thing to do: distributing the various supplies they had moved from the supermarket.
Hu Haotian looked at the two villas filled with supplies and sighed, “Having been the chairman of Jingtai for so long, I think the best decision I made was to open this supermarket in September.”
Since it opened in September, they had already prepared all kinds of items in August.
If it had opened earlier, people would have discovered the supplies here, and before they could arrive, the supermarket would surely have been emptied. Opening too late meant that the warehouse would not be stocked up.
Pan Dawei nodded, “And the supermarket’s theme is indeed very novel; it’s something that people will remember for a lifetime.”
Hu Haotian: “…”
Can we forget the dark history? Can we still be good teammates?
Bai Qi and Tang Ruo still had a lot of supplies, so Bai Qi only requested some meat and all the yogurt.
Hu Haotian was very surprised: “You guys plan to drink yogurt and eat meat every day…?”
Bai Qi replied, “We can slowly gather other things. Besides, we’ll also go out to practice our abilities. But yogurt is something that diminishes with each bottle we drink, so we need to prepare a bit more.”
Cookies and instant noodles aren’t consumed one bag at a time, are they?
Hu Haotian completely couldn’t understand Bai Qi’s line of thought.
Turning his head, he saw Tang Ruo smiling like a blooming flower, with her eyes sparkling with joy. It was as if he could almost see pink bubbles rising from her.
At that moment, Hu Haotian understood.
So, it turns out this little couple is happily content with their sweet moments.
He realized that, without even noticing, he had witnessed their affection once again.
Hu Haotian found himself missing his wife back at the A City base even more.
Wife, come back soon; I can’t handle this alone…
Compared to the other supplies, everyone obviously chose the ones that would fill them up, so the “distribution” was completed in a very harmonious manner.
Once the supplies were divided, everyone quickly got to work stacking the walls.
Bai Qi knew that in his previous life, this place would become the future A City base, but he didn’t stop everyone from enclosing the three villas.
He didn’t know when the military would come here, nor did he know if this life would deviate from the last.
Building a wall might not solve the fundamental problems, but at least it would make the environment a bit safer.
Since it was beneficial, he definitely wouldn’t stop them.
Calculating the proportions of abilities in the convoy, it turned out that the earth abilities were the most numerous, with a total of three: Hu Haotian, Luo Ziqiang, and Yu Wanli, Hu Haotian’s former department manager.
Following a rough draft that looked like a scribble, they began to roughly outline the area on the ground using some white lime.
With everything planned out, they were ready to proceed.
The earth-type ability users stood at different spots, piling up rows of earthen walls. After raising the walls to three meters, they began to thicken them.
Beside them, Pan Dawei, who had wood-type abilities, reinforced the walls with vines.
Even those without abilities came out to help with the foundation or assist in some way.
The other ability users, feeling a bit mischievous, directly went to demolish the nearby villa! They took the bricks, walls, and even the glass, bringing them over to help build their own enclosure.
“That’s too ruthless; you’re taking away someone else’s assets worth millions!” Hu Haotian shook his head as he watched. Although he said this, he didn’t stop working; instead, he took the door from the demolished villa and installed it on their own wall.
Liu Bing said, “Hey, Brother Hu, you can’t say that. I used to think that all businessmen are bad people who only care about profit and don’t care about the quality of construction. Today, after demolishing the villa built by your company, I realized this is really a good place. At least this house is expensive and valuable! Our group of ability users has been demolishing for over three hours. If it weren’t for Brother Bai’s ice crystals and Tian Hai’s thunderballs, we probably wouldn’t have been able to take it down!”
“Haha, brother, don’t you see who built these houses? They’re all for big shots in the military and political circles, so the quality is definitely solid!” Hu Haotian continued working, installing the door.
Tang Ruo belonged to the logistics team, essentially just bringing meals to these men.
For lunch, they had beef noodles, with large bowls of noodles and generous servings of meat.
Now that the green food was gone—though Tang Ruo had some in her space—she really didn’t dare take it out.
Hu Haotian sighed while holding his bowl of noodles, saying, “Not a single piece of green food; this is really unhealthy.”
Luo Ziqiang said, “Look, now there are actually requests. Life really is too good…”
Pan Dawei came over and placed a bottle of Sprite in front of him: “Here, green food.”
Hu Haotian: “…”
Damn, it’s just a green shell!!
By the time the sun set, they had finished laying the foundation for the wall. The original plan was for a three-meter high wall, but they had only managed to build about one meter so far. This was already the limit for the three earth-type ability users today. Continuing through the night would only attract zombies, who are fond of wandering around at night, with the smell of their ‘meat.’
Since they didn’t finish on the first day, they of course continued the next day.
After five days of hard work, they finally completed this sturdy enclosure. Not only did it have a gate, but also a garage door for cars, making it feel like a ‘royal courtyard.’
Moreover, after discussing the indoor garden with Old Qin, he personally came the next day to conduct experiments.
Bai Qi didn’t hesitate and entrusted the indoor garden to Old Qin, whom he fully trusted. Old Qin immersed himself in research and would sometimes stay directly in their guest room on the second floor.
Before long, Old Qin concluded that as long as there was clean soil and a water source, they could plant here!
Now the convoy had electricity, meat, and earthen walls. With Old Qin’s efforts, future green food could also be grown. Next up was leveling up by fighting zombies. If possible, they aimed to push through to the military base in the western district to rescue their loved ones.
The use of crystal nuclei enhanced everyone’s abilities somewhat. Although they hadn’t advanced to higher levels yet, their powers were already significantly stronger than before.
Among them, Tian Hai upgraded to a Level 2 ability.
He took over a month to reach the second level, with Tang Ruo’s spatial water playing an irreplaceable key role. However, apart from Bai Qi and Tang Ruo, the others in the convoy were unaware of the water’s miraculous properties.
They all believed that the effects of the crystal nuclei were enormous, and their enthusiasm for fighting zombies soared to unprecedented heights.
With the combined efforts of the convoy members divided into two small teams, they cleared more than half of the zombies in the high-rise district in just one week.
Of course, Pan Dawei’s command of Tian Hai and Liu Bing had reached a remarkable level.
Those like Hu Haotian, who had never seen this kind of fighting style, sighed for a long time, realizing how it forced the weak among them to understand cruelty, while ignoring the wounded gazes of their teammates.
During the cleanup of the high-rise district, they discovered that there were actually survivors inside. Although the convoy members didn’t abandon them, they also had no intention of taking these survivors into their group.
They simply cleared out a few suites for the survivors and settled them there.
First, the convoy’s supplies were limited, and they didn’t know when they would find the next supermarket.
Second, these people had chosen to hide in their homes since the beginning of the apocalypse and had not stepped outside, indicating that they had already lost their fighting spirit. The convoy didn’t need ordinary people without any motivation.
