Chapter 75 - Bai Qi
After their vows, the two still had serious matters to attend to.
Bai Qi led Tang Ruo deeper into the alley. “How many people are there?”
“Two, and they seem to be speed abilities users,” Tang Ruo replied.
The deeper part of the alley was a dead end; otherwise, the couple they had seen earlier wouldn’t have left through the entrance.
But Bai Qi knew what lay at the other end of this alley.
On the other side of the wall was another alley, and the entrance to that alley was the main street they had just walked on.
He summoned two large ice blades from his palms, embedding them into the wall in front of them. Stepping onto the ice blades, he jumped up and crouched on the wall, extending a hand. “Wrap yourself in mental energy and slowly step up.”
Tang Ruo found climbing the wall on ice blades quite exhilarating; it felt like she was a hero leaping across rooftops. Following Bai Qi’s instructions, she enveloped herself in mental energy and stepped onto the ice blades.
As she placed her hands in his, Bai Qi pulled her up with strength and helped her use the ice blades to propel herself onto the roof, landing safely in his wide embrace.
“Hold on tight,” Bai Qi said.
Though confused, Tang Ruo trusted him completely. Her body reacted faster than her mind, and she instinctively wrapped her arms around his lean, firm waist.
Then Bai Qi hugged her and floated down from the wall.
To Tang Ruo, it felt like they were truly gliding.
“How did you do that?” she asked, feeling as if she were in a martial arts world.
“You just throw the ice blades beneath your feet and step down layer by layer,” Bai Qi replied as he landed, leaning down to kiss her cheek.
What man doesn’t want to play the hero in front of the woman he loves?
Even someone as calm as Bai Qi wants to show off a little.
The technique of stepping on ice blades wasn’t his invention; he had seen a fifth-level ice user do it in his previous life. Although Bai Qi’s ability is now only at the second level, it feels much stronger than his previous third-level ability, allowing him to showcase it today.
However, showing off in front of the person he cares about and seeing her look at him with admiration is truly enjoyable.
Tang Ruo suddenly had a revelation: “Can I use my mental energy like that too?”
Bai Qi thought for a moment and replied, “It should be possible, as long as your mental energy can condense into a solid form that you can step on.”
This wish was too enticing, and Tang Ruo felt she had to make it happen.
The two of them left the alley and returned to the entrance of the previous alley to wait for someone.
Even though they had already guessed that it was the Zhou family sending someone to follow them, they still wanted to give the other party a warning.
At the entrance of the alley, two men were leaning against the wall.
One of them noticed that it seemed quiet in the alley and asked his companion, “Shunzi, why is there no sound?”
Shunzi laughed, “Heh, maybe they’re having some fun in there, Six. You can’t deny that girl is really something; there’s no one in the base who compares to her. Just looking at her is exciting.”
Six was more level-headed; he didn’t believe they were doing that kind of thing inside. “Let’s go in and check.”
“Six, it’s a dead end in there. They’ll have to come out eventually. Didn’t a couple just walk out? We can wait here; if we go in, who knows how many lovebirds we might startle.”
“Let’s go in and take a look; Young Master Zhou is very concerned about this matter.” Six still felt uneasy and wanted to check personally.
The two men stepped into the alley, relying on their speed abilities to feel unafraid of Bai Qi.
They had previously seen information from Zhou Shuguang about the couple: one had ice abilities, and the other had water abilities.
The man looked like a clueless young master, often described in dramas as a handsome boy, but to them, he was just a pretty boy.
Although ice abilities were impressive, many users in the Western District military base had been able to become leaders of small teams. In contrast, typical speed users mainly served as scouts to gather information about routes or enemy movements.
But what does that matter?
With the blue crystals provided by Young Master Zhou, after absorbing about a hundred of them, they clearly felt their abilities had advanced significantly compared to other ability users.
Many attack-type ability users in the base had once looked down on them, but they had been beaten to a pulp.
They were confident that even with their supportive abilities, they could suppress the couple.
Even if they couldn’t defeat them, with their speed, how could they not escape?
As they turned the corner in the alley and looked toward the end, they found it completely empty.
Shunzi exclaimed in surprise, “What happened? How did they get away!”
Six realized something was wrong and quickly went over to check the area, but found nothing at all.
The ice blades left by Bai Qi had already melted.
Water dripped down the wall to the ground, and after a large area evaporated, only a few faint marks remained.
There were no doors leading elsewhere, and the wall was quite high—about three meters…
How did they disappear?
Suddenly, Six sensed that something was off behind him; his companion hadn’t followed and the silence was unnervingly unusual.
He quickly turned around.
There he saw the black-clad man he was supposed to be tracking, pressing his foot against his companion’s chest, one arm around the woman’s waist, and his other finger pointed directly at the companion’s throat.
The man seemed to notice Six’s gaze and turned his head slightly, smiling.
The man’s smile made Six’s pupils shrink, and he nearly felt tears welling up in his eyes, involuntarily taking a step back.
The mocking thoughts in his mind vanished, replaced by the pounding of his heart.
The man was handsome, but up close, all he noticed was the powerful aura surrounding him, which remained unyielding even before the might of a collapsing mountain.
Words like menace, coldness, dominance, and danger all seemed to radiate from this man.
Damn it, how could he have thought of him as just a pretty boy!
“Six, Six Brother…” Shunzi managed to call out with difficulty.
The man raised his index finger and slowly brought it to his lips, making a shushing gesture.
This movement was smooth and graceful, bathed in sunlight that illuminated his chiseled features, reflecting a kingly demeanor. Though the man wore a faint smile, an overwhelming sense of danger emanated from him.
Shunzi’s face turned pale, as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
“What do you want? You might as well just state your terms,” Six said from a distance, trying to buy some time and gain a favorable advantage.
The man ignored his words, focusing instead on the woman in his arms, his eyes filled with a syrupy sweetness. Then, with a coaxing tone, he said, “Be good, hold me tight, and then close your eyes.”
Shunzi swallowed hard as the man’s foot pressed against his chest.
If it weren’t for the cold, intimidating aura he had sensed earlier, he might have thought the man was cultured and easy to talk to.
He dared not move or speak, as beads of cold sweat trickled down his forehead; he felt utterly helpless.
All he could hear was the sound of his own heavy breathing.
This feeling of being crushed like an ant was anything but pleasant!
