Chapter 84 - The Red Dust Convoy
The next morning, many soldiers were seen standing at the entrance of the convoy’s villa courtyard.
Upon asking, it was discovered that they were all soldiers from the Third Army. The convoy members, initially surprised, quickly understood and couldn’t help but sigh at General Qian’s efficiency.
The request had been made just yesterday, and this morning it had already been fully implemented.
Hu Haotian gathered everyone in his villa for a meeting.
The main topic for today was that they were preparing to follow the two trackers to their organization’s base and negotiate terms with them.
Based on the ideological education the two had received yesterday, it seemed that the “Red Dust” convoy was not composed of particularly evil individuals; they were merely responsible for following Zhou Shao. If possible, the best course of action would be to recruit this team for themselves and turn the tables by tracking Zhou Shao instead.
“Recruit them for ourselves, huh?” Bai Qi pondered for a moment, “In that case, we might need to trouble your wife’s abilities.”
“How so?” Hu Haotian asked.
“It’s nothing,” Bai Qi replied. “I just stabbed one of the trackers yesterday.”
Hu Haotian: “…”
You didn’t just kill him and silence him? Aren’t you worried he’ll come back for revenge?
Bai Qi seemed to read Hu Haotian’s thoughts and slowly said, “It felt like cutting a chicken, there was no sense of accomplishment.”
Hu Haotian: “…”
As expected, after spending so much time with Uncle Pan, his teammates had all gone a bit strange!
After finalizing the plan for today’s mission, the convoy members each went to continue their “leave of absence” at the base facilities construction site, which they had previously signed up for.
Of course, if the base didn’t deal with the four men who had been provoking them, they had decided that they would “strike” every day from then on.
The convoy members were living comfortably and didn’t need the three meals a day provided by the base. Previously, they had joined the base construction out of a sense of duty to the country, but now, instead of contributing, they were losing their own assets. No sane person would accept that—they weren’t idiots after all.
Since they were considering recruiting the Red Dust convoy for themselves, they also decided to show their sincerity by having Hu Haotian’s wife treat the injured man.
However, if the other side wasn’t sincere about cooperating, they would simply give up and destroy their base.
After all, now that they had backing, they could stand tall!
Hu Haotian went to Wei Lan’s place, and together they went to the logistics department to bring Yang Li out.
Yang Li’s work in the military logistics didn’t directly belong to the Zhou family, but because the Zhou family provided the Blue Crystal, they took priority when it came to the use of ability healing. This borrowing of a person didn’t take much effort from Wei Lan.
However, Wei Lan was a bit puzzled: “Why are you in such a hurry to bring your wife out? Is there something going on with your convoy?”
Hu Haotian could have told Wei Lan that it was because Bai Qi had stabbed someone, and now they needed to bring his wife to heal the person, right?
In fact, Hu Haotian wouldn’t have dared to say that.
So, he just told the truth: “Heh, I accidentally stabbed someone, and now I’m just helping him get treated.”
Wei Lan: “…”
After taking his wife along and thanking Wei Lan, the convoy members took the two ability users to their meeting spot in the high-rise district.
There were many convoys on the streets heading out, and the group walked along the road without drawing any strange looks from passersby.
The gathering place of the Red Dust Convoy was in their apartment in the high-rise district.
However, at this moment, the members of the Red Dust Convoy hadn’t slept all night.
“Do you think Xiao Ming and the others haven’t returned all night because they’ve already…?” A middle-aged man paced back and forth in the living room, looking very anxious.
Sixth Brother sat there, motionless: “I don’t know, but it should be fine.”
The middle-aged man turned around: “Why?”
Sixth Brother slowly lifted his eyes: “They let me and Shunzi go, so they probably wouldn’t kill Xiao Ming and the others.”
“But Shunzi has been crippled like that…” The middle-aged man pointed toward a room’s door. “If he could cripple Shunzi like that, why wouldn’t he do the same to Xiao Ming?”
Sixth Brother pressed his lips together, thinking for a long time, then still believed: “They won’t kill Xiao Ming and the others. If Shunzi hadn’t said something he shouldn’t have, that man probably wouldn’t have hurt Shunzi.”
That man’s strength was formidable—so strong that he didn’t need to make his presence felt through people like them.
While they were talking, a knock sounded at the door.
The middle-aged man and Sixth Brother exchanged a glance, walked to the door, and looked through the peephole. They saw Xiao Ming and Er Luo outside, so they naturally opened the door.
As soon as the door opened, they noticed that behind Xiao Ming and Er Luo, there was a large group of people.
When Xiao Ming saw his team leader, tears instantly fell, dripping onto the floor: “Captain…”
The brutal treatment they had received at Pan Dawei and Hu Haotian’s place, now seeing their own captain again, felt as though they had truly lived through an entire lifetime.
The apartment was on the second floor, and there were a lot of people passing by in the hallway. Standing there, it was really not suitable to talk for too long.
Leading the group, Hu Haotian and the others squeezed in with the two individuals toward the door.
The middle-aged man was pushed back several steps and stared blankly as the group surged into his house like a tide.
Once the door was shut, Hu Haotian glanced around the room and asked, “The person who was stabbed by Xiao Bai yesterday, did he die?”
Middle-aged man: “…”
Sixth Brother: “…”
“What are you planning to do?” The middle-aged man looked at Hu Haotian with a puzzled expression, then turned his head toward his teammate Xiao Ming, hoping he could provide an answer.
However, Xiao Ming didn’t answer him; he had already been completely brainwashed by the other side.
Hu Haotian glanced over to the other side, seeing Bai Qi and Tang Ruo casually walking over and sitting on someone else’s couch. He then turned back and said, “If that person isn’t dead, bring him out. We’ll help treat him, and then we’ll sit down and discuss something.”
“Can you save him?” The middle-aged man was overjoyed, but then he became suspicious. “You were the ones who injured him, why would you want to treat him?”
“Stop babbling,” Hu Haotian interrupted. “You’ve been following us before, and now we want to work with you.”
“Work together?”
Sixth Brother trusted his judgment. Since the powerful man hadn’t killed them yesterday, he believed in the man’s character and didn’t think they were being lied to.
He then entered the room and helped the still feverish and unconscious Shunzi out: “I apologize on behalf of Shunzi. He’s usually this blunt with his words, but please treat him. Otherwise, his life will be ruined.”
Although the apocalypse had come and many family members were gone, who didn’t want to live well? Awakening abilities wasn’t the same as entering a game where you could respawn infinitely. Life was precious, and people didn’t take it lightly.
Pan Dawei said, “We can save him, but I want you to stop doing the stupid things for Zhou Shuguang, and then…” He chuckled twice, “Help us follow him.”
The middle-aged man: “…”
That creepy expression really didn’t seem right!
The treatment didn’t take long, but the area involved was a bit difficult to talk about. Fortunately, Yang Li was already married, so with a slight hesitation, it was quickly over.
Pan Dawei looked at Shunzi’s wound, clicking his tongue: “That’s too cruel. They actually ruined someone’s underling like that. It would have been better to just kill him…”
Liu Bing said, “If I were treated like that, I’d go after that person and fight to the death…”
Bai Qi pulled out a small ice knife, twirling it slowly a couple of times.
Pan Dawei glanced at it, then turned away: “Ah, the weather is really nice today!”
Liu Bing: “Yeah, the sky is clear with no clouds.”
Pan Dawei: “We could have some watermelon later.”
Liu Bing: “Hmm, that’s actually a great idea.”
Tang Ruo: “…”
The others in the room: “…”
