After ending the call with Lincoln Green, Abigail dialed 110.
Turning around, she saw Brandon Piers leaning against the wood-carved railing, hand in his pocket, looking at her with a faint smile.
Abigail was taken aback. Looking at the man’s upward curling lips, she was a medical student, usually more rational than emotional, but at this moment she imagined him in a white robe with his black hair flowing, he must have graced the spring scenery.
But it was only a moment before her rationality returned, somewhat curious how much of her phone conversation he had overheard.
“Does Mr. Piers enjoy eavesdropping?” Abigail took the initiative.
“This is my home.” Brandon Piers didn’t show any signs of guilt for intruding on someone’s privacy, his tone relaxed and leisurely.
Abigail nodded, “True.”
After saying that, she was about to leave, but Brandon Piers didn’t move, “Going to Sincere? Allow me to give you a ride.”
His tone was laced with a hint of mischief as if he was enjoying the show.
He had been there before Abigail received the call, and with Lincoln Green’s loud voice, there was no reason for him not to have heard it.
Abigail paused, turning to look at Brandon Piers, seeming to search for the reason behind his statement.
“It’s on the way.” Even Brandon Piers wasn’t sure why he had made this offer. He had noticed Abigail’s predicament on his last visit to the Green residence, and soon after ending the call with Lincoln Green, she called the police, obviously not a trivial matter.
Yes, an unexpected desire to join the commotion came over him.
This was a first in his life.
Brandon Piers was curious about how many facets this plump girl held.
Abigail raised her eyebrows, skeptical of the man’s noble intentions.
“Just another opportunity to show my sincerity in hiring Miss Green.” Brandon Piers’s narrow amber eyes looked sincere and provocative when regarding others.
“Then I’ll take you up on your offer.” The Piers’ mansion was located on a hillside, and it was inconvenient to hail a taxi.
She couldn’t afford to catch a chill right now.
“Hmm.” Brandon Piers raised an eyebrow, wondering how a woman like Abigail Green could have tolerated humiliation in the Green household for so many years. Was she playing the role of a fool to trick the tiger?
Having left some instructions for Kelly, Abigail followed Brandon Piers downstairs, only to sense a malicious gaze as they passed the stairwell. Instinctively looking over, she saw the nursemaid hanging clothes heedlessly.
Abigail roughly understood the situation and didn’t pay much attention to it, going on to follow Brandon Piers.
Pullan, seeing Abigail, looked at his young master in confusion, “You and Miss Green don’t share the same route.”
“We’re going to Sincere.”
“Yes.” As a qualified bodyguard and driver, Pullan dared not ask more.
As the car slowly made its way down the hill, Abigail looked over at the always-pale man, but was caught in the act.
“Do you like me?” Brandon Piers asked naturally.
Apart from the Piers’ family wealth, his face alone had attracted many a bee and butterfly. That a plump girl like her would fall for him didn’t surprise Brandon Piers.
He just didn’t expect to get caught in the pursuit of Ruby.
Abigail thought she had heard wrong. However, looking at his handsome face again, she silently nodded, acknowledging his attractiveness. “Hmm, very good-looking.”
Brandon Piers’s hand froze in mid-air. Pullan nervously kept his eyes on the road. His young master hated nothing more than people calling him ‘pretty’.
“But I have more of an appreciation. As for men, I prefer the muscular type.” And the type with proportionate muscles, that is. As for a delicate gentleman like Brandon Piers, she couldn’t make herself fall for him.
Crack.
One of the arms of the gold-rimmed glasses that Brandon Piers was about to put on snapped.
Pullan trembled inside, but silently gave Abigail a thumbs-up in his mind.
This girl either had low emotional intelligence or was missing a few screws.
“Do you despise me?” After a while, Abigail heard a deep male voice, less clear and elegant than usual, carrying a trace of barely noticeable anger.
Abigail turned to Brandon Piers in confusion, “Why would I despise you? You’re my future brother-in-law.”
Was this innocent expression genuine?
Brandon Piers took a deep breath. The fat girl was right. Why should he care whether she despised him or not? Did it matter?
But why was he so angry?
So that day, when she was pestering him, she was just using him, and returning the goddamn money was just an excuse!
He had been despised and used by a fat girl, and here he was, for the first time in twenty years, acting benevolently and taking her to the hospital!
Brandon Piers took a deep breath. Years of gentlemanly upbringing allowed him to calm down.
“Get out of the car.”
He hadn’t calmed down at all.
