Reborn as the Man Who Takes Away the Protagonist’s Beloved Childhood Friend

chapter 60

A mother’s kindness can turn into a weapon

“I’m home.”

“Welcome back~”

I returned home with his mother.

In the end, what happened after that was simple – his mother intervened to protect him, and the situation was resolved by the remaining presence of Mr. Kanzaki.

“You can leave it to me. Goodnight, Towa.”

Despite exuding the smell of alcohol and clearly being on a path of no return to good-girl street, Mr. Kanzaki seemed like a capable woman at that moment.

I didn’t want to think about what would happen to the man who had bothered the girls, rather than us, but there was nothing I could do even if I worried.

“Towa.”

“Oh.”

Upon arriving in the living room, his mother leaned on him immediately.

I had a vague idea, but his mother seemed quite drunk, yet during the commotion earlier, she didn’t even seem to be drinking, unlike now, she seemed like Mr. Kanzaki leaving the store… in other words, emitting a bad-girl vibe.

“Don’t sleep in a place like this.”

“No way! I’m sleeping with Towa!!”

“I don’t want to.”

“Why…!”

Don’t cry…

I tried to comfort my mom, who was shedding tears, by stroking her head, but I soon realized it was a fake cry, shedding tears skillfully.

“Sorry! I’m sorry, Towa!”

……

Well, it’s about my mom, so I’ll forgive her.

When I patted her back gently, indicating I wasn’t mad, the slightly tensed expression on my mom’s face softened as she looked at me.

“What if no one had stepped in at that time?”

……

“The other person was probably drunk, and since it’s Towa, I don’t think there would have been any serious injuries. But what if, by any chance, the other person had a weapon?”

……Yeah. I won’t make excuses. I was only thinking about helping that kid.

“Honesty is good.”

The previous tension dissipated, and my mom, now just my mom, hugged me.

“Your body is no longer just yours. If something happens to Towa, I’ll be sad, and most of all, what will happen to Ayana?”

……

“Yeah.”

“hehehe. I didn’t mean to lecture you, I just wanted to say it again. I have no complaints about helping the girl, and I actually think you’re truly my son.”

……

“Mom, you’re kind… but you smell like alcohol.”

“The alcohol smell is unnecessary.”

It seriously stinks enough to ruin the mood.

After laughing together, I went to the fridge, poured tea into a cup, prepared one for myself and one for my mom.

After taking a big sip of tea, my mom mentioned something.

“That girl Towa helped… wasn’t she totally into you?”

“What are you talking about?”

That girl… was a girl called Yua, as referred to by her friend who was with her.

After I helped her and my mom arrived shortly after, I was only thanked briefly, but I understood she was giving me a somewhat feverish look.

“They seem to be the same age from what I saw, and it seems like they go to different schools… maybe there could have been a world where Ayana’s love rival existed.”

“No, I’m devoted to Ayana.”

“I see. It’s hard to imagine someone coming between the two of you… well, it’s even more unlikely for a guy.”

When I imagined a guy coming between Ayana and me, it reminded me of the world of being cuckolded, a nostalgic feeling.

“Um… Thank you so much! Your name is…?”

In the end, I left without telling her my name, but well… we probably won’t meet again.

By the way, when I got home and checked my phone, there was a message pinpointed from Ayana asking if something had happened, and I secretly got a bit scared, thinking she might have sensed something.

“But I’m glad I was rescued before something really happened.”

“What would have happened if something did?”

“I would’ve killed the guy.”

……

It must be because I’m tired that it didn’t seem like a joke.

Afterwards, I parted ways with my mother, headed to the bathroom to take a shower, and then returned to my room… Before going to bed, I received a call from Ayana, so I briefly explained what had happened, and she was very worried.

“If something happens, I probably… I don’t know what I was doing.”

I will never forget the immense pressure contained in the latter words.

Looking back, I thought today would end without hearing Ayana’s voice… But inevitably, her voice is always there in some way. Maybe that’s just fate, I thought with a wry smile.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh, it’s nothing.”

“You’re suspicious… We need to go there tomorrow!”

As the conversation progressed, it was decided that Ayana would come over, so tomorrow was bound to be lively again.

After ending the call with Ayana, I stood up and went to the window to gaze up at the starry sky.

“The sports festival is over, but there were so many events.”

There were fun moments, difficult moments, and even slightly dangerous ones.

It might not be accurate to say nothing happened… but what I overcame remains unchanged.

“…I want to be by your side forever.”

I muttered quietly, knowing that saying it in person would make her happy.

I don’t mean to exaggerate by saying that Ayana is everything to me, nor have I ever thought that, but I do want to hear her voice at least once a day… Is that too much to ask?

Pondering such things, I drifted off to sleep, preparing for tomorrow.

On a later day, I woke up to find Ayana had somehow slipped into my bed… It was an incredibly thrilling awakening, needless to say.
