The red eyes were a mesmerising shimmer of scarlet, and as I contemplated my reflection in the purple pools, I hummed thoughtfully, as I had hundreds of times before. Well, I guess we're not going to part in peace this time, are we? For a second, I saw a glimmer of interest in the Lizard's intelligent eyes, but that was immediately replaced by a predatory grin. Still pensively contemplating my frozen reflection in the eyes of the calm monster, I silently calculated all the options and tried to find the best way out of the situation.

And if you think about it, it's not sure that I can immediately knock out such a carcass, and in general it's not clear what about his level of defence, and the hell knows these mutants, maybe he can withstand a volley of something large-calibre? And I don't even have any weapons with me. Improved body can be considered as a weapon, but this big guy is a killing machine. So how do I defeat this Lizard? Or should I use some Eastern wisdom? After all, as you know, the best fight is the fight that didn't happen, right? Or was it something else? I can't bloody remember.

The lizard was closing in fast. Doing a double somersault, I immediately tore the distance between us. Growling unhappily, the mutant began to suddenly accelerate. How could such a big guy have a speed not inferior to mine? Barely dodging the monster's sharp lunges, I tried to find the Lizard's vulnerable spot, but, as luck would have it, he was hitting extremely technically and did not even let me strike him. What kind of beast is this? Maybe before his 'transformation' he was a boxer or a military man?

But my thoughts were interrupted by a powerful jab from the mutant. Quickly recovering from the blow, I again sharply dodged another lunge of the Lizard and slipped behind his back. I accelerated instantly and kicked with all my might at the monster's shin. The mutant hissed and by some miracle grabbed my left arm, and the Lizard easily broke it. With inhuman dexterity and ignoring the pain, I kicked the Lizard in the eye with my foot. Another furious growl and his grip loosens. Watching in amazement as my arm weighs down like a wicker, I realise that my blows are like mosquito bites to the monster and I need to get out of the underground.

I speed up again, and deftly evading the Lizard's more erratic blows, I jump straight at it and try to squeeze its eyes out. I received a direct blow with my palm on the body and flew away, but quickly regaining my senses, I immediately saw the Lizard going wild, having lost sight of me as well as my vision. Well, it was time for a much-needed tactical retreat. With a silent snicker, I limped briskly to the exit, cradling my broken arm. I wondered if my regeneration would be enough for such a serious recovery.

Perhaps I need to get serious about my personal arsenal, even if it's small. Since I don't have an immortal body, I should at least be concerned about weapons to protect my 'suit', or they'll damage it and then how will I 'play' in the family? So I'll have to think. But first I'll go home and recover a little. Checking for surveillance, I exhaled a sigh of relief and continued limping towards the house. I sighed tiredly as I assessed the condition of my arm, which was barely holding on. It was really some kind of alligator, and how did it not rip it off? I guess I got lucky, or did he not mean to kill me? I don't know what was in that monster's head. But I'd seen how he'd cleverly destroyed the drones, so I might have to keep my eyes open for him, and going back home through the underground wasn't an option either, fucking Lizard.

Soon the house came into view. May's pickup truck was still parked on the lawn, just as she was, and as she thoughtfully tinkered with the car, May was quick enough to spot me. Two minutes later, she pulled up beside me. Mei's scrutinising gaze immediately travelled over my battered body and locked on to my lashing arm. Instantly, she pulled out a solid-looking first aid kit from the pickup and rushed over to me, her eyes wide with concern and worry. Damn and why is that so cute? Smiling, I let her look at my arm, and it was starting to regenerate, so it wasn't that bad, and it didn't look like it was going to tear off.

- Peter? - May asked with concern.

- I'll be as good as new in the morning. - smiling, I savoured her beautiful eyes.

- No way. - she hummed, opening the first aid kit. - First I'll examine your arm and put a splint on it, and then you'll be as good as new. - Mei smiled warmly, and I felt so much better and cosier. I'd never imagined that having someone take care of you could be so pleasant. - We're having lasagne for dinner tonight. - She winked at me and laughed at the sight of my satisfied smile.

When I got home, I immediately went to shower, throwing all my clothes in the wash on the way. Watching my arm slowly but surely recover, I grinned smugly. I might not have made it out of this mess otherwise, so I'd better think about my pocket arsenal, because next time I'd better not go at that thing with my bare hands, and I didn't understand why he was so strong. Or is this thing improving itself like me? But unlike me that big guy didn't forget about the constant upgrading, so I shouldn't forget about it either, because I've got carried away with my games with hardware and new technologies.

I wonder if this Lizard has anything to do with those green bastards and their pills. It's a little suspicious, and those green-faced bastards have been crawling out of the underground like that. But what's the connection? Maybe he's trying to create his own kind. After all, if you think about it, it's a standard dilemma for the same Frankenstein, but our big guy is more likely just a mutant and still should not discard the theory of a new species, otherwise you can repeat the fate of Neanderthal, and I do not want that. And who wants to go extinct? Even if sometimes some people have something of these fossils, but it's obviously not what we need, right? And giving up our place in the sun to some reptile? No way. So next time I'll be ready for our meeting, and I won't have to 'tactically retreat'. I wonder how intelligent this monster is. And what can it do other than brute force?

Perhaps I should recover a little and move back to my 'basement', but I was too busy with 'training' and understanding the 'wisdom' of Creed, and there are more important things to do. We need to think about strengthening the 'suit' and find ways to strengthen and not only the body. What if we make a separate 'suit' for combat missions? But then what was the point of investing so much time and resources into my technological 'lats'? No, it won't work that way, because I'm used to appreciating my labour. Still, I should be concerned about reinforcement, and the same pocket arsenal too, I wouldn't mind some weapon that could stop such an armoured Lizard. I'll have to think about this in more detail and find something to suit my needs.

Leaving the shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and stood at the mirror for a few seconds. The bruises and bruises on my chest from the monster's blow were still there, and the bruises and bruises were still visible. I could still control the level of pain and adrenaline in my blood as well as anything else, or I could have died of painful shock. I nodded in agreement with my thoughts as I looked at my arm; it looked a little better now, and it didn't look like the lifeless piece of meat it had been after the fight with that thing.

I wonder if I hadn't done any body enhancement at all, would he have torn me apart? I don't even want to think about it. However, if my main body is uncritically damaged, I'll just change the 'costume' and continue to 'live' but then I'll have to change too much, and I do not want to change my family and friends, and with a new body all contacts will have to completely break off. So I'll have to think about strengthening this body, otherwise there is a chance to lose almost everything that I have so meticulously created.

I smiled as I downed the lasagna and inhaled the wonderful aroma of my favourite food. May always knew how to surprise and support me in times of need, and her cooking was divine, like angels descending from heaven. I liked to eat at home, so I always thanked her sincerely and from the bottom of my heart for a wonderful dinner, lunch or breakfast, and did not forget to spoil her myself.

- Who did that to you? - May asked immediately. - You're going out now, aren't you? - She smiled wryly and continued. - I told you so. - A victorious grin. - By the way, your arm doesn't look so bad anymore. - May was surprised.

- I had a slight misunderstanding with a big guy, so I broke my arm on him. - I smiled innocently and sat down at the table and began to eat my portion of beautiful lasagne.

- Are you sure? - She asked incredulously, thoughtfully studying all the bruises on my body.

Damn, I should have changed my clothes after all. Too many questions. I knew rushing was evil, but I love lasagne, so I couldn't help myself. I mean, should I do anything at all? We are who we are, so why change anything?

- Well. As you can see, I've taken a few hits, too, but hey, who doesn't? - I smiled disarmingly as May continued to study me with her gaze.

- You can always talk to me Peter. - She smiled warmly again.

- Of course, May, I wouldn't be without you. By the way, have I told you that you're a damn good cook? - quickly changing the subject, I winked at her.

- Oh, yeah? Is it really good? - she tasted the lasagne with feigned disbelief.

- Food of the gods,' I smiled, returning to my portion.

- I'll take your word for it. - I smiled even wider at the lasagne, seeing the flames of satisfied mischief in her eyes. - That rude miss called again today and asked for you. - May continued more calmly. - Maybe you'll go out with her after all. - she asked with undisguised curiosity. - Or will you settle for Mary Jane? - May smiled like a fox again, and mischief flashed in her eyes.

- Felicia again? - I pondered aloud, for the other candidates didn't fit the category of 'ill-mannered misses.' - Maybe you're right. Thank you for a lovely dinner, I'll consider what you said. - I sipped my mug of hot tea and headed for the bedroom, I still had a long recovery process ahead of me and so much to catch up on, but that didn't stop me from asking Miss Hardy out when I was finally back to normal.
