Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 37: If You Dare to Come In, I’ll Kill You

Sheng Hongye quickly retreated and gently laid Er Lei on the ground.

"I'll deal with the zombies. You stay here and watch over Er Lei," he said.

Su Ling couldn't help but feel worried. Despite Sheng Hongye's strength, he was still alone.

She hurriedly instructed, "Please be careful. If it gets too dangerous, lure them away instead of engaging. I'll stop the bleeding for Er Lei first."

Sheng Hongye nodded, picking up a piece of iron shelf and walking towards the door.

Su Ling then looked at Er Lei, certain that it was the scent of blood on him that attracted the zombies.

His wound was still bleeding, and if they didn't stop it quickly, it would not only attract more zombies but also endanger his life.

However, she didn't have any tools at hand. When she glanced up and saw some towels on the shelf, she immediately pulled down a few and used them to bind Er Lei's wound. But in less than five minutes, the towels were soaked with fresh blood.

Seeing Er Lei's bleeding not stopping, Su Ling couldn't help but break into a sweat.

It seemed like they wouldn't be able to wait until they returned to the farm.

Then another thought occurred to Su Ling.

Why was Er Lei shot?

Could it be that Xin Zan and the others turned against him?

If that guess was true, they couldn't go back to the farm for sure.

But Geng Hao, Kai Xuan, and the other two girls were still at the farm. They couldn't just abandon them.

What should they do?

As she watched Sheng Hongye fighting the zombies at the door, Su Ling felt even more anxious.

The sound of fighting could attract more zombies, but Er Lei couldn't wait any longer; he needed immediate surgery.

As soon as Su Ling entered the supermarket, she noticed daggers, white wine, and sewing materials. She quickly decided to perform surgery on Er Lei right there.

Swiftly getting up, she fetched the necessary items. Sheng Hongye had already dealt with the few zombies. Seeing Su Ling cutting open Er Lei's clothes, he asked in a deep voice, "Are you planning to perform the surgery here?"

"His injuries are severe, and he might not last until we get back. Even if we return, there's no guarantee we'll find the surgical equipment," Su Ling replied.

Sheng Hongye seemed to have already considered this, and his gaze grew even deeper. "How confident are you?"

"I'd say about seventy percent," Su Ling replied.

Taking out the alcohol, she began disinfecting Er Lei. Seeing that he hadn't awakened, she let out a sigh of relief. Removing the bullet from his flesh would undoubtedly be extremely painful, but at least he wouldn't experience it when he was unconscious.

Sheng Hongye brought over two flashlights.

Su Ling nodded to him and as she cut into Er Lei's flesh, a gush of blood sprayed out, splashing her face. Sheng Hongye acted as an impromptu assistant, quickly wiping her face. Half an hour later, they finally removed the bullet.

Fortunately, it hadn't damaged any vital organs, so as long as Er Lei didn't get infected, he would survive.

Next came the suturing and bandaging. Only after Su Ling had wrapped Er Lei in bandages did he open his eyes, his voice hoarse as he said, "Miss Su, thank you."

Su Ling was taken aback. "You... you're awake?"

Er Lei's lips curved slightly, and his voice was weak. "I woke up earlier, but I didn't want to disturb Miss Su, so I stayed quiet."

Su Ling couldn't help but give him a thumbs-up. "Impressive."

Er Lei gave a hoarse laugh. "It's nothing."

Sheng Hongye saw that Er Lei had regained his senses and immediately asked, "What happened exactly? What about the others?"

"Li Jianbin ran away, and the others... they should be dead," Er Lei replied with crimson eyes. Twenty minutes later, Su Ling finally understood the situation.

Xin Zan and the others hadn't come to Lizhou for supplies; they came to eliminate a few people.

They lured Er Lei and the others into the warehouse and attacked them there.

Er Lei was shot while trying to save his brother, attracting the zombies. To protect the injured Er Lei, they fled the warehouse but never made it back.

After assuming everyone was dead, Xin Zan specially came back to kick Er Lei before driving away.

Er Lei and the others didn't have any grudges with Xin Zan, so why would he harm them?

After days of consuming their resources, there wasn't much left that was worth coveting. The only thing left was...

Did they want Su Rou and Li Xueying?

Su Ling was lost in thought, but Sheng Hongye had already stood up.

"I must go back to the farm. Kai Xuan and the others might be in danger. Su Ling, you and Er Lei stay here. I'll close the rolling shutter."

Su Ling knew Sheng Hongye must be worried about his nephew, so she didn't dissuade him.

"No need to close the shutter; it will make noise. I noticed there's a rest area inside. You move Er Lei there, and we'll stay in the small space together."

Sheng Hongye considered it for a moment. "Alright, I'll come back to find you as quickly as I can."

After moving Er Lei into the rest area, they found a small single bed and a chair inside.

Though the space was not large, about five square meters, it suited Su Ling's abilities better. As she stood next to Sheng Hongye, she quickly activated her reinforcement skill.

A minute later, the room had been successfully reinforced to one hundred twenty percent. Su Ling also found some water and food in the supermarket, and then she watched Sheng Hongye leave.

By this time, it was completely dark outside. The power facilities in Lizhou had been greatly damaged, and there were no street lights left on the roads.

Looking into the pitch-black distance, Su Ling dared not wander outside. She poured some white wine at the door and then entered the rest area.

Er Lei was dozing off again. Su Ling felt bored and leaned back on the chair, but she kept her ears alert to any sounds outside. She was afraid the zombies might smell the blood and rush in.

Meanwhile, Sheng Hongye was on his way back to the farm. He encountered a few small groups of zombies along the road and sent them flying. He was worried about Gu Kai Xuan's safety, so he rushed all the way back. At 9 o'clock in the evening, he finally returned to the farm.

Liu Yu and Xin Zan came to greet him. Seeing Sheng Hongye alone, their faces turned grim.

"What happened, Mr. Sheng? Where's Miss Su?" Liu Yu asked immediately.

Sheng Hongye pretended to look sorrowful. "Unfortunately, Miss Su was bitten by zombies and didn't make it."

Liu Yu's expression changed drastically. "That can't be. Miss Su won't die. Mr. Sheng, where is she?"

"If she's still alive, she'll definitely come back with me. Liu Yu, you know her personality well," Sheng Hongye shifted the topic and asked, "What about Kai Xuan?"

Liu Yu's eyes flickered, then he returned to normal and pushed up his glasses with one side missing and smiled, "He and Geng Hao went out to look for you. Didn't you meet them?"

Sheng Hongye's gaze was piercing, and a cold smile formed on his thin lips. "It's impossible for them to leave. If you don't plan on letting them go, I'll have to barge in and find them myself."

Xin Zan immediately raised his gun and said in broken Mandarin, "If you dare to take another step, I'll shoot you."

He swiftly loaded the bullet into the chamber, the dark muzzle of the gun aimed at Sheng Hongye.
