Reborn: My Two Systems at War

Chapter 59: And Through The Window She Goes!

Determined, Tia sprinted through the sterile concrete corridor, her long, silky hair trailing behind her like a comet's tail.

"Come back!" The roar echoed from behind her, and the sound of rapid footsteps closing in reverberated ominously.

'Damn it!'

Without turning, she aimed her gun behind her. She didn't need to look as her whips of kinetic energy lashing out gave her a sense of her pursuer's position.

She pulled the trigger repeatedly. Bright flashes erupted behind her, followed by furious roars and chilling screams that seemed to crawl up her spine.

"I'll tear you limb from limb!"

The steps drew further away, and relief washed over Tia.

"I'll chop you up and make you into goulash!"

'Enough with these stupid, insufferable brutes!' Tia thought, exasperated by the relentless nonsense spouted by her pursuer. Her eyes shimmered with annoyance at the very idea of enduring another moment of this absurdity.

"Bitch! I'll turn you into my goulash!" The man roared again.

Anger rippled through her, and for a moment, she was sorely tempted to turn around and annihilate the boorish brute trailing her. But she resisted the urge, aware that engaging in such a battle would cost her precious time and diminish her potential rewards.

'This is my path!' She already saw the bright light entering through a window, guiding her path toward her goal.

Without slowing down, she directed a telekinetic force at the glass, strong enough to send a rumble through the very walls as it crashed against the window. Cracks spiderwebbed across the reinforced glass, and the frame moaned under the stress but remained intact.

'Shit! It looks like they weren't cheap with the windows.'

The steps once more thundered behind her, the air vibrating, the loud bangs and fuming slowly catching up to her.

'He's fast!' Despite utilizing her telekinetic abilities to augment her speed, this human juggernaut somehow kept pace.

With a grimace of determination, Tia squeezed the trigger of her plasma gun. A radiant bolt pulsating with energy screamed through the air, making a beeline for the window. The bolt collided head-on, scorching a hole through the reinforced glass and continuing onto the street outside—yet the hole it created was pitifully small.

'Still not enough? What are they making these windows off?' Tia marveled, reflecting on the terrifying potency of her friend's armaments, which could destroy the windows as if they were made of paper.

'Should I call her for help? No, I bet that if she could she would already help me—something must be occupying her.'

Suddenly, she felt the air vibrate. Instinct took over; she moved to the side, narrowly evading a fist-shaped, golden shockwave surging with kinetic force. It collided with the wall, punching a hole straight through the concrete.

'What is this stupid power? Remote fists?'

She could already almost sense the monkey's breath on her back and feel the searing gaze of his eyes.

The window was already only a few meters ahead, but the impenetrable glass blocked her path, its strength surpassing that of the concrete.

'Ceiling is also not a path. The outer walls of this building must be even sturdier.'

She raised the wand. This time she wasn't going to underestimate the damn glass—she was going to put everything into the attack, as she needed to smash it and destroy it.

'Distance is short, and the musclehead is on my heels—there is no time for failure!' With determination, she channeled her energy.

Her eyes ignited with a radiant purple hue, the veins beneath her skin lighting up as if electrified. Unleashing a cataclysmic burst of kinetic force from her wand, she watched as it slammed into the window with a thunderous impact that reverberated throughout the building.

Cracks spiderwebbed across the glass, shards falling away from the rapidly expanding hole. Yet she didn't stop, her eyes flashing again as the second wave, followed by the third and fourth, exploded from her wand, cascading down the corridor.

She was already only a few steps away from the windows, and the time was quickly ticking down.

'This should be enough.' She felt it; she calculated it, her inhumanly fast mind working like a computer.

The successive waves of force slammed into the unyielding glass, each impact more potent than the last, with their impacts reverberating through Tia's body.

Finally, with the last wave, the window relented, disintegrating in a burst of glittering shards that scattered in the sunlight like lethal confetti.

<Basic Telekinesis VI (54%)> --> 57%

A gust of fresh air mixed with the sun's warmth enveloped her as she rocketed through the shattered window frame. Her clothes fluttered, and her hair streamed behind her like a platinum tail. She soared up, the concrete walls of the building she escaped turning into a blur.

In a fleeting glance back, she caught sight of the man framed in the splintered window. His eyes were incandescent with a fury that promised retribution.

'Dumbass...' With a smug, victorious grin, she landed on the building's roof, enjoying the sensation of victory and fresh air.

Her smile froze as she looked around. More than ten drones were quickly approaching, their shiny hulls gleaming in the sunlight and the glow of their blue plasma canons quickly intensifying.

'So this is what was occupying her! Damn her, she could have at least warned me! Did I just jump from a fire into a volcano?!'
