Rise of the Omnimage

Chapter 6 - Ranks and First assessment

Congratulations!

You have learned the skill:

Aetheric Redirection (a) - Unique skill for the user where he encapsulates incoming aether and redirects it. Certain actions with the aether leading to a variety of effects. Caution: If aether exceeds Antimatter PPS you will be unable to contain the target and backlash can occur.

Kyrain was ecstatic about this skill. It made him within his tier and maybe two up, an immovable object.

"What?!" Sebastian asked excitedly.

"It's a skill called Aetheric Redirection and it basically traps aether used against me, and I can redirect it." Kyrain explained.

Elijah came back over after getting blasted backward by a shockwave of his own aether. From what he could tell was condensed and directed into a small area.

"That hurt...a lot." Elijah said

"Sorry man." Ky said as he looked around at a room that was quiet and watching, but that's when the instructor spoke up.

"Gentlemen, I would appreciate you not using your skills. You were only meant to look at them."

"Sorry sir, we just had a good idea and wanted to test it while it was fresh." Tobias said on their behalf.

"Yes, I figured that by seeing one of you go flying across the room, but my point still stands." The instructor replied.

He then directed them all to take their seats and went into the tiers of power and the ranks of the guild.

For Kyrain it was mostly a refresher of how there was option to start as an initiate. One thing Kyrain didn't know, is that if he successfully completed the initiate program, he would receive the initiated badge, which not only helps in the act of moving up through the ranks of the guild, but also guaranteed a 5% increase in pay from every job from the guild.

Clients are also told that an Initiated took their request which to them signified that the request is more likely to be completed quickly and successfully than other adventurers who did not grow up in the guild.

They went over the old news of them getting their probationary license when they reached the age of 16 and were above tier 2. You were a junior adventurer at that point and you could handle lesser monsters in a few marked off zones or help with security at a few approved businesses such as schools and hospitals as your first combat jobs to gain experience. This is the time you would begin harsher combat training than when you were an initiate. You worked with real weapons against one another as well, under careful observation of specially trained healers.

Then finally once you reach the age of 18 and achieved tier 3 or higher, you could become an Iron rank Adventurer, able to take on any iron rank jobs and the seriously true danger begins. You are more on your own and the training wheels are off.

Eventually the class ended.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Ensure you come in ready for strenuous activity. We recommend physical fitness attire. You will need to be at the guild the same time you were here this morning.

- Next morning -

The entire initiate class met in the classroom they used before in various forms of workout clothes. Many seemed rather jittery. Kyrain on the other hand was rather excited with his new skill to see how much of a change it would be in the assessment. He had a feeling it would add so much to any team he was on. He already frustrated his two uncles whenever they stopped in for training. Neither of them could help him build out his path because they had no idea about antimatter. The internet didn't offer anything except vague ideas.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, would you please follow me. We are going to get this party started." A large man with scale looking armor and scars across his face and arms said.

They all began to move toward the exit and went into one of the attached smaller domes, used for sparing and guild training. Once inside, the large man turned around.

"We are now going to separate you into a few groups. On my right side, all those who are already trained or being trained in a weapons, multiple weapons or unarmed combat."

A solid 70% of the group went to this group leaving only a handful of those not trained in weapons remaining. A woman stepped up at this time.

"You who are not trained in any form of combat, please come with me so we can assess you physically in a different way." She said as they all followed her out of the area.

The big man stepped back in and began to direct people. In one group, he put all of the ranged combatants who would use bows, guns, throwables, and even one kid used chains. In the other group he had all of the melee specialty people, be they armed and unarmed as was the case with Elijah. During the sorting, a group of guild official began to set up targets with a bunch of aether circuitry.

"Each of you will step forward. You will demonstrate three primary tests. The first is strength. This will be based on how much damage you can do to the target in front of you using only your body. No active skills are permitted during these exams. The next test will be your reflexes where you will adapt to something done and how quickly you can. The final assessment will be a durability exam where you will take a series of blows until you yield. This assessment will be used later on in the initiate program to help you train and develop yourselves physically for the jobs and tasks of the guilds. It is necessary for your safety."

The large man clapped his hands and the other guild members began getting groups of Initiates in front of targets who were then directed to hit the targets with a weapon of their choice that was to the side of the line. To Kyrain's delight he saw varying numbers pop up on the screens next to the targets when they were struck. No damage was done to them, as he saw an aether shield appear to stop the impacts. He saw trends in the numbers though. Nobody seemed to get to 100 or above, but plenty in the 70s and 80s.

It was finally Kyrain's turn. He chose a short sword like he would use with his uncle. There was something about the balance in weight and speed. His uncle Mitch used either a long sword or a katana and was so unbelievably fast and strong, whereas his other uncle Kody used what he found out later was called a bident.

Kyrain walked up and go ready with his weapon down by his side in a relaxed grip. He took one breath in and darted in. He moved for all his tier could allow then swung allowinghis passive nullification take effect. The aether shield appeared, but as soon as his sword made contact with the shield it popped like a soap bubble, causing his sword to cleave right into the target causing the screen on the side to go out.

The attendant came forward looking extremely unhappy.

"Right....you're the anti-aether kid. You're going to go with the other group for physical assessment. We can't really measure you here."

Kyrain just sighed and went off to find the other group as he heard the attendant's clearly angry muttering about something.
