Sauron's road of redemption

Chapter 28: Temporary retreat

Mairon strained his muscles a bit out of balance without his arm.

Still he stood ready, waiting for the dragon to make a fatal mistake.

As small crossbow bolt hit his armour, his body took more and more wounds.

'I should upgrade my armour and weapons to Valyrian Mithril'

It was a new metal Mairon came up with, after learning to make Valyrian steel.

The blood sacrifice enhanced the steel so much, that even his magic enhanced armour could not protect him from these bolts.

If it were only Valyrian steel swords, the magic steel he crafted would be superior

But with the speed and force of a crossbow these Valyrian steel tipped bolts could penetrate trough his master crafted armour.

So more and more blood pooled around him, but his immortal physique kept regrowing and pushing out the bolts.

Even his armour kept regrowing as his wounds closed.

But time was running out, even with his forces coming to his aid he was outnumbered and outgunned.

As the dragon swooped down again, Mairon was ready.

Stretching his muscles as far as possible he threw the bolt.

Going twice as fast as before.

The bolt hit the mighty dragon head on piercing his thick hide, and going straight trough his hart.

The mighty beast felt the searing pain and the grievous wound.

As his instincts kicked in, he wanted to flee but power was already leaving him.

Pluming to the ground a giant portal opend op before him.

It fell trough the portal coming out somewhere far from this battlefield.

Mairon turned to his armies, that were fighting the Valyrian army.

They were slaughtering the physically weaker humans.

There were some pockets of resistance, mostly hold by blood sorcerer's.

In the horizon he could see a group of dragons closing in.

Mairon frowned, but now was not a time to fight till the end.

He had been blindsided by his arrogance again, and the devious humans had made a fool of him again.

He came here for a honorable duel, but the high lord's greeted him with a poisend dagger and badly hidden malice.

"RETREAT RETURN TO MORIA."

After hearing the command, the bloodthirsty orcs and Uruk hai gave up their slaughter and retreated back trough the portals.

Mairon turned his head and opens a portal in front of Galarion, the dragon flew trough it not understanding what happened.

As Mairon held a great many men at bay while ensuring his armies retreat, he suddenly felt danger and ducked away.

A giant blood spike erupted from where he stood just now.

Looking up at the Imperial stand he saw a hooded figure with sickening red energy surrounding his hands.

Behind the sorcerer he saw the emperor, a look of distain in his eyes while looking at mairon.

Like he was bit a mere bug.

But this was but a distraction

The dragon army had arrived and fire breath filled the arena.

Seeing his armies burn irked Mairon but there was nothing he could do about it now.

About 400 troops were left on this side but he could not keep these dragons at bay.

So he would need to sacrifice them.

They could keep the Valyrian troops busy long enough, for him to finish what he wanted to do.

Mairon opend his mouth and started inhaling, from everywhere energy started moving towards him.

Wailing souls were sucked towards him, both from the Valyrian and from his own troops.

These thousands of souls would fuel him further, when he finally became a Vallar.

For now they would Nestle with his other reserves of souls kept over from Qohor's slaughter.

Giving one last glance at the burning arena, he opend a portal and moved trough it.

-----------

The Emperor stood in the midst of his guards his face was gloomy.

"Salazar gather all information you can find on him."

"Our plan was full proof no escape should have been possible for them."

"So why is it that the head and heir of the Klararion house lay dead in these very sands, while our prey survived."

"Not only that, but killed thousands of soldiers and civilians?"

The Emperor looked down at the body of one of his old friends.

Somebody he used to play with when they were young.

They even shared their bed slaves when they got older.

But now he lay dead, the result of his own greed for house Dracon's vast wealth.

'this was not how it was supposed to go.'

Grief filled his eyes, this should have been just another exploit for them.

His idiot son would get the venomous bitch, while they would rip open the carcass of Dracon and feast on its intestines.

Sharing it's wealth and swallow it bones and all.

But their assassination failed due to lack of information.

Not only that, that detestable bitch is far deeper hidden than he thought.

She never showed her malice, or let know that she knew, they were responsible for her late husband's death.

Death came sudden for his friend, like a snake hidden in the grass striking their heel when they were distracted.

It was not a poisend chalice as they expected, but a poisend dagger to the back.

-------

A kwarter hour earlier.

Messenia stood among the high lord's of Valyria.

Looking at her fiance down in the arena crushing his opponent.

It was a spectacle of the ages, dragon fire warming their faces, as even from a distance they were hit in the face with its smoldering heat.

In her hand she held a chalice filled with wine.

Slowly sipping wine with her delicate mouth.

She was a figure of grace beauty and youth, but still you could see the warmth of a mother filling her sharp face.

Behind her was Laurena her sister and lover.

She was still unsure how to breach this topic with Mairon.

But thinking about it she gave a mischievous smile.

If she survived today he would get her tonight.

But first she had to secure the safety of her daughter and sister.

Surrounding them were giant creatures, two meter tall with crude jaggerd armour.

Their smell far from pleasant but it would do for now.

The leading creature spoke to her in black tongue.

"Mistress I can feel maliceses coming from the flayskin ahead."

"May we feastet on his flesh, oh mistress."

She gave him a side eye before she awnserd back in black speech.

A gift of Mairon upon his family so they may speak any language.

Just like he can speak Valyrian, and any language he came across until now.

It is a form of pre Babel speech that any could understand while the ones speaking it can understand any language spoken.

"It is not yet time, we wait until their plans unravel right before their eyes."

Her eyes filled with vengeance, today they would pay in blood for what they did to her family.
