Sins Loom: The Unwilling Weaver

Chapter 186

Ed was lost in thought as he looked through the files. What kind of person should I go for? This is a chance for me to get some allies, but can I just subject normal people to the same things I’ve gone through?

He sighed and opened up the first file. Let’s just see what I’m dealing with...

Name: George Mason

Age: 82

Occupation: retired

Biography: Born to parents...

Nope. Nope nope nope. I’m not subjecting the elderly to this. His heart will probably give out the moment he gets here. I know they can keep him alive, but that just seems too cruel. Ed closed it without even bothering to give it a full read through. The second file wasn’t much better.

Name: Tim Smith

Age: 10

Occupation: Student

Seriously? What is Buddie doing? First the elderly, and now a kid. These two are out. Please just give me someone I can work with. This is outrageous! He closed this file even faster than the first. He wanted to say something to Buddie about this, but ultimately decided to leave it until after he read everything.

Name: Olavo Francisco

Age: 25

Occupation: Intern at a law firm

Biography: Born to parents Vasco and Carlota Francisco, Olavo is the youngest of three children. He has two older sisters, who are five and seven years older than him... He has recently graduated from law school and is currently interning at a law firm in his hometown...

Everything was bog standard up to this point, but it was here where things deviated from what the sinner’s files were like.

... His knowledge and expertise in the law makes him a suitable candidate for judging criminals. He may try to push for following the law and doing things legally. But if you can show him that the law is powerless and convince him to use his wits for the greater good, he could prove a valuable asset...

Okay, this one’s a lot better. At least his age is reasonable. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him, and from that last bit he seems to be a fairly upstanding person. I don’t know how he will handle this. If I can’t find anyone better, he might have to be picked.

Name: Masami Chiyoko

Age: 20

Occupation: self-employed

Biography: Born to parents Yuuto and Sayuri, Masami is an only child. She is currently living with her parents in Kyoto. After graduating from high school, she started streaming and has become a semi-notable content creator. Her content is centred around horror games, both with playing other people’s games, and with her streaming the creation of her own independent titles...

... She is a suitable candidate both in terms of attitude and experience. She should grow accustomed to her position in the company easily. She already has experience with the job thanks to her time spent creating horror games, so she should be able to pick up the work quickly. Notably, she also has some remnant traces of a non-human bloodline that could be brought out as a reward for her...

-End of document-

Just because her career is centred around horror games doesn’t mean she’ll be able to... You know what? Never mind.

Ed stretched his shoulders as he closed the file. She’s a decent choice. She might even be able to figure out how to maximise the sinner’s chances.

Ed dove back into the files, hoping to quickly pick his five. Father of five who runs a charity? Nope, can’t do that to him. He’s actually trying to make the world a better place.

A murderer? Maybe. If there’s no one else. I don’t like it though.

The next two files were much the same. One was a thief who was a repeat offender who had never been caught, and the other was a major criminal who had been sentenced to life in a maximum security prison.

Ed didn’t know if he wanted to give these criminals a chance to further their passions with this kind of stuff. He felt like they should have been sent in as sinners, not as job candidates.

He was still in a toss up on whether he wanted people who could be allies, or if he wanted to keep the ordinary people out of this. The criminals would at least be able to handle it better, right?

Depending on what these last two files gave him, he might’ve had to strike a balance between both options.

Name: Mathew Hale

Age: 36

Occupation: Gas station attendant

Biography: Born to parents Tucker and Judy Hale, Mathew was the youngest of three children. They all lived in a small, two-bedroom house, with the three children sharing a room up until the oldest left for college... Dropping out of high school at sixteen, he found a job as a gas station attendant and has been working there ever since... He spent most of his free time at the firing range with a few of his close friends... Last night, while at work, someone came in trying to rob the place. Instead of following company protocol, Mathew pulled out his hidden firearm and shot at the man several times. Killing not only him, but an old lady behind him too...

Wait, this isn’t like the others, did Buddie mess up? This is a sinner’s file.

... He redeemed himself in one of our tests and is currently spending his time in prison for his crime. We believe he should have some unique insights into how things should work around here, given that he has already experienced what it’s like to be on the inside of a trap...

-End of document-

So I was kind of right? It was a sinner’s file... He really does seem like a good candidate. Ed had a lot of things running through his mind, but that didn’t stop him from opening up the next file. However, it didn’t take him long to close it again. The girl inside was only twelve years old, and was thus eliminated from contention immediately.

Guess I have to make my decision now.
