Soul of a Human

Chapter 8

The following day was hell for Mor, everything ached and it seemed Ranbor reveled in every wince and pained groan. At lunch break, Mor dragged himself to the infirmary to visit the adept for help. Earning a bewildered look from her.

"Mister Agaton, what brings you back here so soon? Already got yourself hurt again?" She chuckled. "To be young again."

Mor gave her an apologetic smile. "Thank you for taking care of me Miss Amber." and she laughed.

"Miss he says, you are one sweet talker, but I´m too old for you." Mor turned red, while the human let out a whistling tune in his mind.

°Shut it!° Mor shushed the human.

"Please stop teasing me. I could use some help and tips, with some healing magics. I have this ache in my muscles and it hurts. Is there something you can do?" Mor asked.

°Good thinking, but still a wuss.° The human teased and adept Amber got thoughtful.

"Yes there is such magic, I could teach you, without too many problems. But tell me how did you manage that? Aching muscles is not a usual problem the soul-kin have to contend with." She questioned him.

"You know, the recklessness of youth, I experimented with something, and well now it hurts." Mor half lied, and the Adept gave him a strict talking-to.

"Did you not learn from your last "experiment"? This goes beyond reckless to get yourself hurt so soon again."

"That´s why I want to learn some healing magic, to be safer." Mor interrupted the lecture.

"Yes, then at least, you can administer first aid and keep from dying. But are those experiments that important to endanger yourself?" she asked.

"No, I won´t do anything that dangerous again. Promise, I just want to try some things, because my magic is so weak. I just want to get stronger and able to stand next to the others." Mor revealed his feelings to her and adept Amber nodded.

"I get it, come back after class and I will teach you. But promise me to not endanger yourself like that again. I believe nobody told you how close a call it was and it wouldn´t do for my first admirer to die off like that. This would ruin my reputation as Adept." She teased again.

°Nicely done Romeo, you did good. Healing magic always comes in clutch. We will be invincible always healing.° The human congratulated Mor, who in turn rolled his eyes.

°Again with your over-the-top beliefs, I told you that is not how all of this works!°

"I saw this eye-rolling. Only because I´m old, doesn´t mean I don´t notice something like that. But a cutie like you is excused." The adept smiled warmly.

"Now get back to class. You don´t want to be tardy." She told him and Mor gave her an excusing smile, nodded, and took his leave.

°I like her, we should probably get her something for teaching us. Are there any snacks we could get her?° The human suggested and Mor agreed.

That´s why after classes, Mor got some sweets for the adept and made his way to the infirmary for his additional lesson, and after a few hours, lots of teasing, and bewildering explanations, he knew that he would have to come more often to learn the required spells. So he would come the whole week after class to the infirmary and learn the basic healing spells.

Also while he went to those lessons, the human would not enforce his threat of dragging him through physical training, instead encouraging him to get as many of those healing spells as possible. After the week was over he got a good grasp on the spells closed wounds, recover stamina and reduce pain, all of them of the single-class but it would be enough.

°Great now that we have this in the bag, back on track. Cue training montage, play Eye of the Tiger!° The human exclaimed and Mor dreaded what would come.

°What even is a tiger...° Mor grumbled.

And just like that the human training camp from hell started, Mor was forced to wake up early and go through a strange sequence of movements, the human supposedly "knew" would be good for more flexibility. After that, he would cast reduce pain on himself to lessen the pain of the day before and that day and go through his lessons. After classes, the human would take control and try to do simpler movements like turning a book page, while Mor did his homework.

The days somehow flowed into each other, as Mor was kept busy with his learning and human training, and the only thing he recognized was an increase in hunger and food consumption, but the human said this was expected and normal. Mor started to believe the human more and more, that there is something with training your body and those movements were somehow starting to feel relaxing and calming his mind for the day.

All this lasted until about three weeks later when he received a letter from Diamond Isle, a letter he completely forgot would be incoming. His parents, they had sent their answer, now he was in deep shit. With dread, he opened the envelope and was surprised as two letters fell out.

Picking up the first, he noticed the penmanship of his mother, and after the first sentences he feared the rest of it, but well it was just like his mother...

*My dear baby boy,

Mommy is really really angry with you, why didn´t you tell me that you are unhappy at your new school, and even lied to me *Sob sob* Mommy is really sad. You are always welcome to come home to me, you don´t need to stay at that stupid place if it makes you unhappy, just come back to me. To me it doesn´t matter if you are bad at magic, mommy will take care of you regardless. I´m sure Daddy will see it just like me we can all be a super happy happy family again.*....going on and on and on, filling both sides of the piece of paper.

°That is... painful to read. My condolences.° The human said and Mor nodded °Yes she is a great mage, but her motherly love is smothering. I wanted to go to this school to get out from under her bosom. I guarantee you, Father told her to keep it to one sheet of paper...Then on to the second letter... fathers.° Mor opened up the second piece of paper and read.

*Mor,

don´t dare lie to me again. We will talk when you visit at the big break.

Morokahn Agaton*

°That is short!° The human exclaimed °How did your parents get together with this difference?!°

Mor shrugged °I don´t know mother told me she was "super duper lovey-dovey" in love with Father and he just went along with it, I guess. But if they are happy, who am I to disagree?°

°True, but still° The human said, and begann to chuckle °The difference is funny.° And Mor started laughig as well.

°The letters are not as bad as we feared, seems this will have to wait until that ominous break. Meaning back to business for us.° The human stated and Mor sighed.

°Yes, but I should at least answer them.°

°Yes, later. Now back to training!° The human urged, and they got back to it. Later that evening Mor hit the mattress of his bed completely exhausted, any thought of letters and answers forgotten.

The next morning while going through their exercises Mor told his partner. °We never talked about why you are so helpful to me, isn´t that kind of weird? I would be furious if I just got stuck in some other place.°

°Yeah, but somehow right from the start I had this instinct to protect you and this body. Don´t know why, but whatever right now I´m having too much fun just living and doing stupid shit. This magic stuff is also really interesting, and well humans are known for their adaptability. So no harm done, don´t think about it.° The human replied.

°Still can´t remember your name?° Mor asked.

°Nope, don´t know my name or anything personal, like my age. I don´t even remember my family. But somehow it does not concern me, probably because I died or something, you just leave everything behind and move on.° The human said

°But sometimes you make strange jokes or talk about things like a "Tiger", whatever that is.° Mor replied.

°You got no tigers? Well, they are big cats and very dangerous animals. Also while I can´t remember my personal stuff, other things from human culture I knew are still there. No matter, I already came to terms with the strangeness of this situation.° The human answered.

°What are cats? Or those animals? Are they some monstrosities?° Mor was confused.

°Why would you even think that! Are there really no animals here?!° Human asked.

°No, only monstrosities, but in History, they talked about beasts, maybe those things were animals once a long time ago.° Mor put forward.

°Your world is stupid!° The human replied ending the discussion.
