Arc Eighteen. Chapter Five Hundred Twenty-One. Sky High
Fury decided not to have Parker join Agent Romanov on her mission. His sense of humour didn't lend well to high-stress situations. He also declined to have Parker join the fledgling Avengers as they apprehended Loki. He had been spotted with Barton in Germany, and the team had assembled.
Instead, he stuck him on the Helicarrier, and said "Well, if you're so smart, put together a lab."
So Peter took five minutes, found the internet, and ordered a whole bunch of cool stuff. He was annoyed he never got this kind of treatment in his universe, even after asking if Shield had awesome spy gadgets. Once that was done, he spent the rest of the time playing video games. Sure, Fury would probably be mad he hacked the Shield firewall to get onto the World Wide Web. Peter figured it was his own fault for giving him access to a computer.
Peter was playing Doom when the tannoy squawked, "The team are back, meet them in briefing room Alpha."
Peter shrugged, finished his bad cafeteria sandwich, and headed to wherever that was.
The group, looking very annoyed, shuffled in after him. It looked like they had already had words, and not kind ones at that.
"Hi," Tony said, "So you're the illegal alien," He looked over at Thor, "the other alien. Do I exist in your dimension?"
"Yup, I love the Christmas tree ornament. I love the way it leaks highly toxic metals into your blood and kills you." Peter stuck out his hand for Tony to shake and just got a blank stare back. "Oh was I not supposed to tell anyone that, oops."
Bruce stepped forward, "Do you uh, no us all? I mean, some of us must be different."
"Nope, Erskine formula, used gamma to bind it to your blood creating a Gamma Enhanced. We tried to cure you but um," Peter mimed an explosion, "that energy has to go somewhere. Romanov, we talked. Thor, your brother is an asshole in both worlds, except she's your sister in my world. And yeah, Tony is still an asshole." Peter looked over at the Scepter. "Hey is that." He whipped out a line and grabbed it, "Oh you have got to be kidding me, really?" He laughed, "You guys are either gonna love this or well, no, probably not."
Fury stood, "Kindly put that..." but he pulled out his gun as Peter broke the top off and crushed the crystal between his hands.
"Bulletproof. Do you guys not listen? And anyway. It's not a sceptre, it's this." Peter held up the yellow gem. "Meet an Infinity Stone, one of six, and this is my favourite." Peter popped it in his mouth and swallowed it.
"I am going to ask you to spit that out before I really shoot you." Fury still had his gun pointed at Peter.
Peter held up a finger, "One moment. Peter Parker is currently unavailable. Leave a message and he'll get back to you after the beep.....beeeeeeep!"
"Is he...are you messing with me? I said I will." Fury looked confused as he holstered his gun and sat back down.
Peter swam within the mindscape of the stone. Spying the coalesced energy,
Hey, asshole. yeah, you. Not this time, you don't.
Syphoning power from the Stone he blasted apart the yellow cloud of energy that made up Ultron. He was not taking any chances.
Well, that's strange.
Peter could see a thin wisp of energy trailing away from the mindscape. it seemed to vanish off into space but without Charles or Jean, he had no way to follow it. He shrugged and sent a blast of energy down the wire.
On an asteroid, the Other convulsed and then keeled over, his brain dribbling from his ears.
Back in the real world, everyone sat calmly as Peter blanked out for a few seconds, and then smiled a huge stupid grin. "Right, so, The Mind Stone, one of Six. Power, Space, Time, Soul, Mind, and Reality. All giant pains in the ass, and all a huge headache. I won't be handing it back, as you need telepathy to use it anyway. So, yeah. Questions?"
"I have heard tales of the Infinity Stones, are you sure this is one of them?" Thor asked. "If so, then I must warn Asgard, and we must make sure Loki is not under its control."
"Magic accessories," Tony scoffed, "yeah, let me get my glitter gun and we can." Tony slapped himself, "I have daddy issues because my father loved his work more than me. He always compared me to Steve Rogers, and I spent my childhood trying to emulate him only to fail."
"And that people is the power of the Stone."
Do not be a dick, Tony. I can make you do so much worse.
"Well that isn't horrifying," Bruce added sarcastically. "Mind control and telepathy. So what's the upside."
"Perfect recall." Peter scribbled down a chemical formula. "I have no idea if that will work in this universe, but that's the depowering formula we use." He slid it over to Bruce. "And sorry."
Everyone felt a small pinch and shook their head. "Why?"
I made them forget, Thor took a bit, but with the Stone it was doable. Don't make me regret it, Tony. I've seen how far you can fall, and how far you can fly.
Tony looked relieved, "Well, I need a drink. I take it you can find the Stone without us?"
"I'll go ask Loki. It's not a search engine," Peter said with a sigh, "If that's okay?"
Fury snorted, "Yeah sure, you can make me say yes anyway."
Peter rubbed his forehead, "but I won't. Look, do you really want this to drag out? I mean, I can fix about half a dozen things with the Stone. No issue, no death, Just click and it's fixed."
Fury looked at him, "As long as you do the paperwork, go right ahead."
"Great," Peter stood and clapped, "Loki then the other guys. Nat, want to help?" Peter saw her face harden at the nickname, "Sorry. Agent Romanov, can you please help."
Peter had expected the walk to the holding cell to be quiet and awkward. Instead, Natasha made it a different kind of awkward.
"So, am I really like her?" she asked, and Peter had to stop walking to gather his thoughts.
"So much it hurts," he replied bluntly. "Not everyone I know is here. Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy, Jean Gray, and a lot of other people just don't exist." Peter ran a hand over his face, "But yeah, it's like you are her. No difference, even the way you walk."
"Does she have the urge to shoot you as well?" Natasha asked with a small smile as they continued walking.
"No," Peter said with a small chuckle, "but she does ask me to act as her training partner, so she can have a live..." He stopped when he saw the smirk on her face.
"Maybe asks after you've done something dumb?" Peter groaned, "Good thing you're cute, oh and bullet proof I guess."
He put a hand on her shoulder.
I know, invasive and you hate it, but. Peter stared into those beautiful eyes he missed so much. The formula I gave Bruce will clean out the Red Room one, and if I give him another, replace it...and fix you.
Natasha shook her head, "Don't. Just don't."
That made the walk to the containment area awkward. Before Natasha hit the door unlock, Peter stopped her. "I need you to talk to him while I use the Stone, oh and uh, don't freak out."
Natasha snorted, "Oh like becoming a giant monster freaking out or..." Peter coated himself in armour and vanished from sight, "Oh, yeah, you can turn invisible." She waved a hand in the space where he stood and felt his chest. "So, plan?"
Interrogate him, make him talk. I can use the Stone to get a read on him, and see if it's Loki or something else.
Natasha nodded and unlocked the door to his cell. Peter shuddered on seeing the cage they had him in.
That would probably just piss Hulk off, he thought as he stepped into the room. Natasha began to talk to Loki but Peter just shook his head.
Keep him talking, that's not Loki. If alarms start going off, it means I found him.
Peter was used to things like that. Felicia and the rest learnt quickly. Most people who turned invisible only dealt with the five basic senses. Peter closed his eyes and searched the ship and found the brighter blip of an alien mind. Loki was after the sceptre.
I found him, what's the protocol here? I can probably take him out, but he will know.
"And now we've caught you? I mean, it's a nice cage, and one you can't get out of." Natasha asked, "Your plan is finished, so what's next for the crown prince of Asgard."
"Now? Now I let Barton carve his name into your skin. I make him watch as he snuffs out the light from these baby blues, and then I set him free to see his handiwork."
"Someone will stop you. You're a monster."
That's my cue. Thanks.
Loki snorted in derision, "You're the one who brought the monster, Agent Romanov."
Peter never heard what Natasha said next as he was already moving towards the door at full speed. Loki was probably going to use the Stone to control the Hulk, and in the air, that was bad.
Bruce was easy enough to find as well. He was in a lab with Tony. The sceptre had been left in one of the main areas, rebuilt in case it held more secrets.
"Why aren't you working, you stupid thing." Loki had the Sceptre and was trying to contact the Other. The plan was working perfectly and he needed the Chitauri to be mobilised. He felt a hand grab him, and with little resistance, bang his head against the meeting table.
"Oops, was that your face? Here, let me help," the firm grip on his hair banged his head against it again. "I am just all fingers and thumbs today," the voice said as it gave him one last bash. denting the table. The hand shifted and gripped his neck, wrapping some kind of cord around it. "Now, be a good boy and don't move."
Loki wasn't about to take the impertinence, not from a mere mortal. He summoned a dagger and stabbed it where the fool's kidneys should be.
"Ow, Didn't mommy teach you not to play with knives? Bad Loki." Peter banged his head against the table a few more times.
BANG.
"Stop,"
BANG.
"Hitting,"
BANG.
"My,"
BANG.
"Head."
"Unhand my brother," Thor spotted the dagger sticking out of his new friend Peter's side. "Oh, never mind, carry on." He leaned against the doorframe as Peter began to bash Loki's head against the table over and over.
Peter stood, "It's a good thing these aren't real clothes. This might have been my favourite shirt." Peter hissed slightly as he pulled the dagger free. It shimmered and vanished as Loki fell unconscious.
Thor was surprised as the wound, and his clothing, healed. "You are not human?" He asked.
"Kinda, sorta, maybe. A hybrid. Half human, half secret sauce. And as they don't appear to exist here, not even going to explain."
Thor shrugged, "And a varied universe makes life interesting. Maybe we could," Thor smiled as he flexed slightly.
"After we deal with this mess. Hit that button, Peter pointed to the intercom, "gently, just uh press it." His Thor would probably have taken out a section of wall following that order.
"Hey Nat, or well, anyone as I don't know how this works. Did the other Loki vanish, as I've got him here?" Peter shouted,
"And I am here as well, tiny wall gremlin," Thor added with a smile.
"And Thor is..." Peter never finished as the Helicarrier was rocked by a huge explosion.
Peter looked down at Loki. "You know this is his fault right?" Thor shrugged but nodded. "Good." For good measure, he bashed Loki's head against the table one last time.

"Sir. We have a huge spike in timeline dissolution. Someone is causing an incursion," a tech anxiously shouted across the monitoring floor.
Agent Mobius sighed, "Bring it up." He could see it was the attack on the Helicarrier, the event that brought the Avengers together. This time, however, he watched as an unknown subdued Loki.
"Aww, hell. Rate of dissolution?" he asked.
"The uh, the timeline is stable. We have a split but, events are still occurring within a ten per cent error margin."
He looked over at the Sacred Timeline monitor and it registered a blip. It wasn't enough to change everything, but enough to set the alarm off.
"Agent Mobius, I can deal with that." An orange door opened and Cable walked out. "Agent Cable, Time Line Restoration. I'm from upstairs."
"Right, you need any Agents?"
Cable lifted his pulse rifle, and this time he had lots of extra clips. "Nope. I'm good."
