Spider-Verse: I'm a Symbiote

Chapter 2: Life Foundation

Life Foundation

In a brightly lit laboratory, Dr. Skirth stood alongside a group of scientists, all gathered in front of a glass cubicle. Inside the cubicle was a small metal cylinder containing a strange substance—a twisted mix of purple and black goo, moving as if it were alive.

Standing at the front was Carlton Drake, the founder of the Life Foundation. His confident smile and steady voice held everyone's attention as he spoke.

"Thank you all for your hard work," Drake said, his tone calm but full of excitement. "Today, we make history. Our names will be remembered long after we're gone. This is the beginning. The first human contact. Let's get started."

With those words, Drake turned to face the cubicle. He stared intently at the cylinder, his expression a mix of curiosity and excitement.

A mechanical door inside the cubicle slid open, and a man in his twenties was led inside. He looked nervous, his eyes darting around the room as if trying to make sense of the situation. The man was clearly a prisoner, brought here with no explanation of what was about to happen.

"What's going on?" he asked, his voice trembling. "Why am I here?"

Drake didn't answer. Instead, he spoke to an employee at the console.

"Open it," he ordered.

The employee hesitated for a moment but then pressed a button. The cylinder released a soft hiss as it opened, and the goo inside began to move. Slowly, it oozed out, slithering across the floor toward the man.

The man's eyes widened in fear. "No! What is this? Let me go!" he shouted, pressing himself against the glass. "Please, don't do this!"

His cries echoed in the room, but no one moved. The scientists watched with a mix of fascination and unease. Drake, however, remained calm, his gaze fixed on the scene before him.

The goo reached the man's feet, spreading over his shoes and beginning to climb. He thrashed and screamed, pounding on the glass, but there was no escape. The substance wrapped around his legs, his torso, and finally his chest. His movements slowed as the goo completely engulfed him, disappearing into his skin.

For a moment, the room was silent. The man stood still, breathing heavily. Then, he lifted his head, his eyes glowing faintly with an eerie light.

Drake stepped closer to the glass, a satisfied look on his face.

"It's working," he said quietly, more to himself than anyone else.

"Dr. Skirth, please provide me with the analysis details," Drake said, his tone calm but firm.

Dr. Skirth nodded and began working on the control panel. Within moments, data appeared on the large computer screen, visible to everyone in the room.

"This is incredible!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with astonishment. "It's healed!"

The room buzzed with awe as the scientists took in the results. The subject, a prisoner who had been suffering from an incurable disease—sickle cell anemia—was now completely cured. Within seconds of bonding with the symbiote, the disease had vanished without a trace.

"Mr. Drake," Dr. Skirth called, drawing his attention.

Drake turned to her, his face lit with a confident smile. Their eyes met, and both exchanged a silent understanding.

"Do you see?" Drake said, his voice rising with enthusiasm. "With this symbiote, curing cancer will no longer be a dream."

The room erupted into applause, a shared sense of accomplishment washing over the team. For Drake, this moment marked the beginning of a new era. Turning his attention back to the subject, his smile lingered as he studied the man who had become their first success story.

But then, Dr. Skirth's voice broke the celebration. "Sir, something's happening," she said, her eyes shifting nervously between the panel and the man in the cubicle.

The man, who had been standing still moments earlier, suddenly clutched his head, his face contorted in agony. He staggered, gasping for air as an invisible force seemed to crush him. His vision blurred, and a sharp pain tore through his skull. Before anyone could react, he collapsed to the floor, his body convulsing before falling still.

Seconds turned into an unbearable silence. Thirty seconds passed. A minute. The man remained motionless. Drake's expression darkened as he stared at the lifeless body. While the death of the test subject was an acceptable loss, the symbiote's survival was paramount.

"What are you waiting for?" he snapped, his voice sharp with urgency. "Examine the test subject immediately. The symbiote must still be alive!"

The scientists sprang into action, hurrying to assess the situation. One of them cautiously opened the cubicle door and approached the fallen man.

But before the scientist could get close, a purple tentacle shot out from the man's back with terrifying speed. It wrapped around the scientist's neck, tightening like a vise.

The room froze. The other scientists stared in horror, unable to process what they were seeing. Fear etched into their faces as the tentacle pulsed and twisted.

Drake, however, was unmoved by the terror gripping the room. His gaze, filled with fascination, remained fixed on the scene unfolding before him. A slow, ecstatic smile spread across his face as he whispered, almost to himself, "Magnificent."

_________

Damien's pov

After I ate the guy's brain, something weird happened. Memories "his memories" started flooding my mind.

It was like watching a messed-up highlight reel of his life, and with it came a realization.

I'm not just some ordinary creature. I'm a symbiote, like Venom and the others, but different.

Huh... this is actually kind of cool.

Then more of his life came into focus, and man, what a trainwreck. This guy was a real piece of work - a total douchebag.

Got a woman pregnant, ditched her, then killed her when things went bad. Oh, and let's not forget, he had a disease.

That landed him in prison, which ultimately turned him into a test subject. Or, well, food for me.

And honestly? His brain tasted pretty damn good.

Before I could dwell on it, I heard someone shout, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"What are you waiting for? Examine the test subject immediately! The symbiote must still be alive!"

I turned toward the voice. Wait, isn't that the guy Riot bonded with in the Venom movie?
