Chapter 1261: Ms.Qin

“If she couldn’t explain clearly, that would be a disaster!”

Zhao Shu’s attention wasn’t focused on her. After compelling her to utter some futile words, Zhao Shu addressed Zhao Mu with an icy tone, saying, “There’s no use in discussing this further. Old Master Zhao, what are your thoughts on this matter?”

What else could Zhao Mu possibly say?

The dowries couldn’t have vanished without reason.

It had to be Ms. Qin.

It was either Ms. Qin or Zhao Zhai and Zhao Ye, or perhaps their daughter-in-law.

A wave of embarrassment washed over him.

“Just grant me a few days.”

“I’m afraid that won’t suffice,” Zhao Shu replied coldly. “I’m not interested in your family’s affairs. I only want my share. I have no desire to linger here any longer. Hand over my share, and I’ll have no further involvement. Otherwise, I’ll be compelled to report this to the authorities and let them decide.”

Ms. Qin anxiously interjected, “Please don’t accuse us! No one has entered this courtyard before, and none of us took anything. Maybe Madame Qin moved them herself?”

“Ms. Qin!” Zhao Shu erupted in anger. “My mother is gone, and you’re attempting to blame her? You’re taking advantage of her inability to defend herself? She moved them herself? She couldn’t possibly have foreseen her gruesome demise and decided to deal with her dowries beforehand! Furthermore, my mother had so many dowries; it wouldn’t be easy to move them. No one in the mansion knew about this? Can’t you come up with a more believable lie?”

“I’m warning you, if you dare to defame my mother again, I’ll take physical action!”

Ms. Qin seethed with frustration but dared not utter a word.

Yet, deep down, she knew the truth about whether she was carrying anything.

The reality was, she hadn’t taken anything at all!

She didn’t take it, and her sons couldn’t have tampered with it either; otherwise, she would have been aware of it. Old Master didn’t need to be involved either. Zhao Shu wanted to take action, but he couldn’t return. If his men did return, he would surely assign someone to keep a close watch, leaving him powerless.

So, who else could be responsible?

“Old Master!” Ms. Qin implored, her voice trembling, addressing Zhao Mu. “I truly didn’t take it, I swear! Old Master, please believe me…”

Zhao Mu turned pale, speechless. Believe? How could he possibly believe her?

Zhao Ye silently moved his lips, lowered his head, and retreated a few steps, saying nothing.

In truth, he even harbored doubts that his mother had anything to do with Ms. Zheng’s dowries. While his mother sounded sincere and didn’t appear to be lying, she had always been adept at feigning innocence. That was something he knew all too well.

In fact, Zhao Mu shared similar suspicions. He was aware of Ms. Qin’s skill in pretense. However, he wasn’t particularly bothered by it. Sometimes, when he observed her conduct in his presence, he found it rather amusing.

But interrogating her in front of so many witnesses wasn’t an option. It would only lead to humiliation if she couldn’t endure it any longer.

Zhao Shu wasn’t ready to give up. His frustration grew to the point where he reluctantly agreed to wait until the next day.

The chief and the others let out collective sighs. They were now compelled to remain at the Zhao Mansion and await the resolution. They had committed to making a decision at Zhao Shu’s insistence, and they had to unravel this mystery.

Furthermore, human nature’s innate curiosity kept everyone engaged in the unfolding drama. No one was eager to leave until the conclusion was reached.
